TIMELINE OF OUR DOCUMENTARY RELENTLESS ADDICTION
The first thing the audience see is our documentary opening which we wanted to change to suit our topic.
Scene One: The second set of shots is different angles of Bronte and I walking, talking and drinking energy drinks. This scene will have Bronte narrating over, introducing the subject and telling the audience basic facts. We use different angles such as a Dutch angle to represent the negative side we are showing the audience.
SCENE ONE MICRO ELEMENTS Sound: There will narration over the top of most of the documentary to inform the audience statistics and information about the subject. Non-diegetic sound will be used as background music for narration and for establishing shots. Camera Work: We will use different angles such as a Dutch angle to highlight that we are mainly representing energy drinks as bad. Shots are clean, simple and plain. The equipment we will use is a Canon 550 DSLR, track, and tripod. Mise-en-scene: For outside shots the lighting will be natural. Location is outside, as we will be walking along a path. The make up is natural, every day to highlight the realism. No specific costume, normal every day clothes.
MACRO ELEMENTS Representation: Throughout the whole documentary we will present energy drinks as bad and dangerous. Narrative: There is no specific storyline within our documentary.
EDITING TECHNIQUES For scene one we will use little editing, just cutting to each different shots and angles, a montage. It will be plain and simple as the audience will be focusing on the voice over.
CODES AND CONVENTIONS There will be text over these opening shots to introduce the presenter, editor and producer.
Scene Two: We will interview different people within a school. For example a student and a teacher about their opinions on these drinks and whether they are allowed in school.
SCENE TWO MICRO ELEMENTS Sound: Non-diegetic sound will be used as background noise for interviews, over the top of establishing shots (to set the location), it will also be used as a bridge between shots. Camera Work: Shots are clean, simple and plain. The main shots used are mid shots. The equipment we will use is a Canon 550 DSLR and tripod. Mise-en-scene: These interviews will take place within school therefore we will use natural lighting. No make-up. No specific costumes, normal everyday clothes.
EDITING TECHNIQUES For scene one we will use little editing, just cutting to each different shots and angles. We will edit stock footage over the top of these interviews to visually show what the interviewee is talking about.
Scene Three: As we are showing the negative effects of energy drinks, we will interview a doctor about the health risks. We will also film a canteen worker to further ask about drinks within schools.
SCENE THREE MICRO ELEMENTS Sound: Non-diegetic sound will be used as background noise for interviews and will also be used as a bridge between scenes. Camera Work: Shots are clean, simple and plain. The main shots used are mid shots for interviews. The equipment we will use is a Canon 550 DSLR and tripod. Mise-en-scene: Lighting will be used with the interviews that are in front of a white background – to make it look professional. No specific make-up. Doctor’s costume (white coat etc) and suit for company owner.
EDITING TECHNIQUES For scene one we will use little editing, just cutting to each different shots and angles. It will be plain and simple as the audience need to be focused on the interviewee and what they're saying. We will edit stock footage and shots of the NHS website over the top.
CODES AND CONVENTIONS Here we will act interviews with experts to again emphasize how real the subject is, this will attract the audience and highlight the dangers of these drinks.
Scene Four: This will be an interview with someone who has a personal addiction to the drinks and they're experience with them. This will give the audience a personal insight to the risks of them.
SCENE FOUR MICRO ELEMENTS Sound: Non-diegetic sound will be used as background noise for interviews. Camera Work: Shots are clean, simple and plain. We will use a mid shot to show the interviewee clearly. The equipment we will use is a Canon 550 DSLR and tripod. There will be small shots between what the interviewee is saying such as close up of her hands. Mise-en-scene: The location of this interview will be inside however we are unable to use artificial lighting therefore the lighting will be natural. No make-up. Normal, every day clothing to emphasize the realism.
EDITING TECHNIQUES For scene one we will use little editing, just cutting to each different shots and angles. Stock footage on top and quick shots of her feet and hands so that the audience will stay focused.
SCENE FIVE
Scene Five: There are many different news stories and articles about the dangers of energy drinks: stories on how teenagers have died or have had extreme health issues due to drinking them excessively. THIS WILL BE REAL STOCK FOOTAGE.
