Are You A Slave To Money? • No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. • You cannot serve both God and Money. (Matthew 6:24)

Are You A Slave To Money? Perhaps the following questions will help clarify your answer:

Are you chronically anxious over money matters?  • Do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you chronically anxious over money matters? • Are you not much more valuable than they? • Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? (Matt. 6:25b27) (See Mark 4:19; Lk. 12:25,29; 2 Tim. 2:4)

Do you see yourself, rather than God, as your provider? • You may say to yourself, ‘My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.’ But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth… (Deut. 8:17,18a) (See Dan. 4:30; Isa. 45:7; Matt. 6:33; 2 Cor. 4:7)

Your priorities • Are your priorities – as it relates to acquiring resources – in balance with other responsibilities (God, family, etc)? Do not wear yourself out to get rich; have the wisdom to show restraint. (Prov. 23:4) (See John 6:27) Marketplace facts: Are you a slave to money?
Are you chronically struggling with the issue of debt? • Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellow man has fulfilled the law…The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender…The wicked borrow and do not repay, but the righteous give generously. Do you harbour a desire to be wealthy? • People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction.

Do you harbour a desire to be wealthy? • For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. • Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. Are you sacrificing your integrity to get ahead? • The merchant uses dishonest scales; he loves to defraud. • Ephraim boasts, ‘I am very rich; I have become wealthy. With all my wealth they will not find in me any iniquity or sin.’ (Hos. 12:7,8) (See Lev.19:35,36; Prov. 11:1; Amos 8:5,6; Micah 6:10,11) Marketplace facts: Are you a slave to money?
Are you personally selfindulgent, but miserly when it comes to helping others who are less fortunate than you?

…The ground of a certain rich man produced a good crop. He thought to himself, 'What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.' Then he said, 'This is what I'll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I'll say to myself, ‘You have plenty of good things laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry…’…If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? …A stingy man is eager to get rich and is unaware that poverty awaits him.
