Review resume and determine if experience is primarily VIII. Pre-Screen Telephone Interviewing

A. Determine candidate essentials- goal is to determine if face to face interview worthwhile for you and the candidate. Saves time and energy. (see sample pre-screen questions) 1. Verify Past Employment in detail and insure all gaps are filled in 2.Verify Past Experience Confirm functions and responsibilities as well as job titles


3. Verify critical aspects of current job. What were the key aspects of past jobs

4. Verify past work success. Define what work the candidate believed was successful 5. Verify understanding of basic responsibilities for job being offered, to Insure the candidate understands the opening 6. Verify salary when departed and new salary to determine what kind of Raises the person is changing jobs to receive.

7. Verify understanding of critical aspects of job being offered, to insure Candidate understands the open position 8. Verify current salary and how much is wanted to avoid wasting time if you are out of the park. 9. Verify past successes in quantifiable terms. 10. Verify reasons for leaving past job, and past jobs. 12. Verify necessity of creativity on current job. 11. Verify what looking for in next opportunity, to understand what the candidate expects.


B. Decide if candidate fits: 1. No- applicant cannot do job 2. Maybe- explain fit and will consider and get back 3. Qualified, if so then: Schedule interview Insist appointment be kept Insure confidently Application to be completed completely and honestly References will be checked C. Get back to everyone if not considered

Most workers have one or more past failures- Key is to understand those failures and what the person learned. E. Make a list of questions to ask references- and copy Ask the same questions of each reference Verify key claims F. Questions to ask references: How was conflict handled? Do they follow through? How do they handle constructive criticism? Are they able to overcome roadblocks? Ask what is the person’s greatest strength and greatest weakness? How did they grow on the job?
