Marketplace facts: Mission statements

Does your company have a mission statement? • Is it really the driving force of all that you do? • Do you as leader use it to keep your efforts on track? Does it plainly show the spiritual foundation of the enterprise that you are building?

FCCI/Christ@Work: Mission statement • Their mission is: In pursuit of Christ’s eternal objectives, we equip and encourage company leaders to operate their businesses and conduct their personal lives according to Biblical principles. Marketplace facts: Mission statements

Everything that they do • Everything that they do at Christ@Work must revolve around equipping and encouraging company leaders to be effective for Christ. • To “equip” means “to furnish for service or action…to prepare”. The word is used rarely in the Bible. Most of the time the word “train” is used. Marketplace facts: Mission statements

Equipping • Just as we as parents are to train our children to prepare them for life, we as business leaders need to be trained to lead our companies.

Equipping • This is not an easy task. I Cor. 14:8 says that we need “to prepare or get ready for battle”. Ezek. 38:7 calls for the country leaders to “get ready… be prepared”. • This equipping process never ends because each day we are faced with new challenges. Marketplace facts: Mission statements

The word “encourage” • Means to “inspire with courage, spirit, or hope…to spur on, to stimulate”. • As we gather in our small groups, at conferences, or meeting another member for lunch, we are mutually encouraged.

The word “encourage” • Our heavenly Father is the master encourager. • He encouraged Moses to tell the people to “fear not for the Lord shall fight for you” (Exodus 14:13, 14). • Through Isaiah God said, “Fear not…I will help you” (Isaiah 41:13). • While healing the sick, Jesus said, “Be of good cheer” (Matthew 9:2). Encouragement • The disciples needed encouragement on the rough sea that night and Jesus said, “Be of good cheer, do not be afraid” (Matthew 14:27). • Even the three leaders of the inner circle had to be encouraged by Jesus; they were fearful on the mount of transfiguration (Matthew 17:7).

Encouragement • The forceful leader Paul had to be encouraged by the Lord as he traveled (Acts 23:11). • Even though we as leaders must encourage our co-workers when we face tough times, we must privately get away quietly with our Lord and with other leaders to gain strength and encouragement for the battle. Time for reflection What is your personal mission statement?

Prayer Focus • Father, In the name of Jesus, I surrender myself to walk in the Word in the marketplace. Your word living in me produces the Life in this world. • The word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. It makes my way plain before me. • I boldly and confidently say that my heart is fixed and established on the solid foundation – the Living Word of God! Amen Marketplace facts: Mission statements

Learning, application and commitment: James 1: 22-25 • “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. • Do what it says. • Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in the mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. • But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it - he will be blessed in what he does.” (NIV) Marketplace facts: Mission statements

Learning, application and commitment • One of the principles that I have learned from this lesson was … • I intend to apply this principle in my marketplace by: ….. • With the help of the Holy Spirit, I will begin applying this truth immediately. Marketplace facts: Mission statements

Jesus said: Take what I have given you and change the world!
