King Edward VI School

February Bulletin 13 February, 2015

I

t has been a chilly half of term but quite dry and we have had relatively few cancellations as a result of poor weather. Both hockey and netball have seen record numbers involved, particularly at the junior level with a number of C team fixtures.

Summer Term Leave of absence Friday 1 May - Fifth Year Leave of Absence begins at 4.00pm

The first half of term concluded with an excellent service at Winchester Cathedral with King Edward’s providing the chamber choir, dance and readings for Education Sunday and the Spring Concert given by our younger musicians. This, along with the 24-hour Cyclathon, a combination of school trips and activities, charity events and mid-sessional examinations has understandably left many of our students (and staff!) in need of the break that half term provides.

Friday 8 May - Lower Sixth Leave of Absence begins at 4.00pm Friday 22 May - Upper Sixth Leave of Absence begins at 4.00pm Wednesday 10 June - Lower Sixth Return to lessons

Congratulations go to the 9 students who have received offers from Oxford and Cambridge along with the many others who have received good news from other very competitive universities. As ever, there are some disappointments but almost all students who have applied this year for university have a realistic target to aim for over the coming months.

Pupils leaving the School For all pupils, other than those in the Upper Sixth, who intend to leave KES at the end of this academic year, a reminder to parents that written notice must be received in all cases by the Registrar or the Head before the end of the spring term.

There will be a memorial service for Colin Dobson, the former Head Master of King Edward’s between 1971 and 1990 at St. Mary’s Church on Friday 24 April in the afternoon. More details will follow at a later stage for those interested in attending this event.

If you have any questions regarding this, please contact the Registrar on 02380 799216

I wish you and your children a good break over half term and hope to see a number of you at parents’ evenings and other events in March. AJ Thould Head Master
