1. Teaching and learning – continued lesson observation, work scrutiny & pupil tracking; reviews of Lower School curriculum; effective & enhanced IT; provision for library/LRC; Parents’ Evenings and reporting in the light of the linear approach to A level; HE/careers provision. Embed changes to teacher recruitment & training. 2. Pastoral – focus on preventive approach to pupil health with adoption of enhanced early warning systems, professional support and advice to parents. 3. Consider means to ease pupil workload & pressure – e.g., two week autumn Half Term, improved co-curricular monitoring, etc. 4. SMSC – increased promotion, monitoring and audit of British Values through assemblies, PSHE and Extended Studies and Open Forum. Continued focus on community links and charitable activities. 5. Review the balance and range of co-curricular commitments in the light of staff and resource limitations. 6. Enhanced links with Stroud, other prep and primary schools. 7. Implementation of key proposals of MTM review (new website, enhanced social media and 3-18 digital media officer) 8. Embed changes to staff administrative support (trips, co-curriculum, data, etc.) 9. Facilities – DAC, improvement of North Playground area, Duke of Edinburgh space, enhanced pupil social space, dining hall and refurbishment of the library. 10.Continued focus on 3-18 compliance.

Expeditions & exchanges 2018 • Sports Tours – from Holland to Jamaica with shorter local tours (Belfast, Wales, Holland, etc.). • Cultural visits & exchanges Charlotte NC, Vienna, Poland, Italy, Belgium, etc. • Language visits and exchanges – Spain, France, Italy and Germany. • Water Sports to France. • Expeditions: field work in Galapagos. • Charity visits – Summer Camp, Lovaton and Goedgedacht in SA.
Sport, DoE and fitness • Excellent hockey season at every level for boys and girls. Netball, cricket and rugby also good • Other sports – improved link with SWAC for sailing, new fitness facilities as well as dance, fencing, basketball, Rhythmic Gym, etc. Rhythmic Gym National champs • Over 300 involved in Duke of Edinburgh with nearly 90% in current Fourth Year.
Keeping busy in school • Over 50 Clubs and Societies each term – from fencing to philosophy • Many interests catered for – from beekeeping to charities (£30K raised 2017-8) to debating and car construction • Music – 2 orchestras, 2 choirs, big band, jazz band, rock bands, etc. • Drama – Beauty & the Beast, Treasure Island, Then There Were None, etc. • Science Festival + Primary Partnerships & the Endeavour programme

Key facility projects 2018-9 1. Enhanced Lower School pastoral area with move to the ground floor locker area to improve supervision and access. 2. New bag room, to be completed November 2018 3. Expansion of the Library, to be completed by Sept. 2019 4. Locker replacement programme.

New Head 2019 Neal Parker is currently Vice Principal and Head of the Senior School at The Grammar School at Leeds, a co-ed independent 3-18 day school with a very similar structure to KES. Previously, Neal was Director of Music and Head of Performing Arts at the Newcastle Royal Grammar School, having started his teaching career at King’s College School in Wimbledon. Educated at the British School in the Netherlands and The Purcell School of Music, Neal read music at St. Anne’s College, Oxford. He begins at KES in September 2019

Other Priorities for 2018-9 • Review of VI form provision in the light of linear A levels • Review and expansion of VI form general studies with the focus on preparation for employment • Focus on student welfare, especially enhanced mental health support
Teaching and Learning 2018-9 • Student tracking via iSAMS using value added data (MiDYIS and Alis) • Consolidation of iPAD introduction • Implementation of Lower School curriculum review • Supporting less able students in Upper School • Managing A level reform as we move all students to the new linear A levels with the focus on a changed rhythm for the Lower Sixth.
Pastoral care 2018-9 • Focus on the further integration of British Values in the School’s broader curriculum and pastoral care. • Enhance the development of personal effectiveness of students through improved selfesteem and specific approaches such as the development of mindfulness courses. • Explore further opportunities for student leadership and student voice via additional positions of responsibility.
Co-curriculum 2018-9 • Review of sporting provision, success and impact. • Review tracking and co-ordination of cocurricular student involvement • Development of proposals for Mayflower 400 (2020) • Review of KES drama following the construction of the new Dobson Theatre
