From the Director of Higher Education: Ms. Ruth M. Greenwood, MA February 2011

Dear Parent(s),

UNIVERSITY OPEN DAY TRIPS FOR LVI, 2011 Your son/ daughter has expressed interest in visiting a UK University in order to evaluate the suitability of a Higher Education course to which he/she may apply in September. You are cordially invited to join us on any trip as we hope that the selection process for University is as thoroughly researched as possible and we feel that your involvement in this process can be beneficial. If you wish to join us, please make payment per person, per seat through “Parent Pay” (see reverse) asap and ask your son/daughter to let Miss Jordan know how many seats to reserve. All Open Day trips will depart from the Hill Lane gates at unearthly hours of the morning. In order to ensure that we do not miss the first sessions of the day, we will need to leave promptly. Please see the attached list of arranged trips for specific details of departure times (or consult the School website). Return time for most trips is expected to be approximately 6pm. and we cannot guarantee to return students to School in time for the KEATA buses, but will try to do so where feasible. Students have already been informed that they will need to book individually, online, to ensure they have access to specific subject talks and to particular university departments: this is their responsibility. Your son/daughter should be provided with food for the day or the wherewithal to purchase a meal. We strongly recommend that he/she should carry a mobile telephone and keep it switched on, as once arrived at the university, students will disperse according to their individual subject interest and cannot be supervised. We wish to emphasise the importance of effective, independent research for University applications and to this end, your son/daughter should carry his/her copy of the Student Handbook for HE applications which was issued during our Higher Education Programme, and ensure that the appropriate questions are answered. If you are content for your son/daughter to visit one or more of the University Open Days offered, please make the appropriate payment via Parent Pay as indicated on the reverse of this letter. Places will be allocated on a strictly first come, first served basis. Alterations to arrangements cannot be made less than a week in advance. We regret that we are not allowed to ‘drop off’ pupils at destinations other than the School premises, unless we have your written permission, in which case we can usually ask the coach company to make an additional stop.

Yours sincerely,
