Seven suggestions to help us stay motivated
Staying motivated in ministry
As leaders we are constantly looking at how we can motivate those we are leading to serve, to grow, to give, to What is it you want to accomplish as a ‘get it’. However, the truth about motivation and leader in your area of leadership is that our goal should not so much ministry? Writing it down clarifies it for you and Motivation is be to find new ways of motivating other provides a bench mark people as finding fresh ways of motivating contagious against which you can ourselves. Motivation is contagious. If we are measure progress. For motivated, others will be motivated too. to motivate most of us, what conversely, if we lack motivation and are just demotivates us the most others we going through the motions, then no amount of is that vague feeling of saying the right things and casting vision will need to first being out of control, of actually motivate others. We cannot give what letting things slip of all make between our fingers and we have not got, and if we have not got not achieving what we motivation, we will not be able to effectively sure we need to achieve. Writing motivate other people. Leaders need to tend it down clarifies it. So, ourselves are their own soul before they can effectively tend how clear are your the souls of others, as we were seeing in last motivated ministry goals? month’s edition of Kingfisher Leadership News. Our goal as leaders in this regard is Decide where you’re going to start summed up as follows: Spell out your plans on paper
There’s a lot of truth in Lao Tzu’s statement, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step”. The fact is, leaders face big challenges, and it’s easy to be overwhelmed by them. We need to decide where we’re going to start.
Establish check points It’s so demotivating to just have a distant goal in mind, like in dieting… you need steps along the way.
“Always give yourself fully to the work of the Lord because you know that your labour is not in vain.” (1 Corinthians 15:58) The key word for leaders in this verse is: FULLY. The Good News translation translates the second half of this verse as: “…since you know that nothing you do in the Lord’s service is ever without value.” 1

Keep reminding yourself of the benefits of doing what you’re doing. Leadership can be a lonely furrow to plough, and we need to keep motivated. A runner stays motivated by keeping their mind’s eye on the finish line.
Adopt an attitude of optimism.

If everything we do as leaders is valuable, and we are called to give ourselves fully, the question becomes, ‘How do I motivate myself to live and to serve at this level, especially when I often feel demotivated, distracted, disappointed and discouraged?’ Take a look at the seven suggestions opposite and ask yourself the following questions:
The person who says “I can” and the person who says “I can’t” are both right… your attitude will, to a large degree, affect the outcome of what you’re doing.“For I can do everything with the help of Christ who gives me the strength I need. “ Phil. 4:13
What are my ministry goals? Can I write them down clearly and coherently?
“…but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)
What checkpoints can I establish in my area of ministry that are measurable and realistic?
Establish the right environment What is the best preparation time and place for you? What are the conditions that help you to be at your most creative and clear cut? Do you find yourself distracted easily by where or when you prepare for things? When you hold meetings, you need to give thought to environment in relation to what you are trying to achieve in the meeting.
Give yourself the right to make mistakes. Perfectionism paralyses us… if at first you don’t succeed, welcome to the human race. As Thomas J Watson, the founder of IBM said, “The way to succeed is to double your failure rate”. Is was said of Montgomery that he was didn’t so much win battles as avoided losing them. If our motivation in leadership is to not make mistakes, we’re never going to get very far… we’re going to make mistakes, and we need to embrace the positive in that… we need to “fail forward” as John Maxwell puts it. Thomas Edison gave some wise advice regarding failure. He made thousands of trials before he got his electric light to operate. One day a workman to whom he had given a task said, “Mr Edison, it cannot be done” Edison said, “How often have you tried?” The man replied, “About 2000 times”. Edison responded, “Go back and try 2000 times more; you have only found that there are 2000 ways in which it cannot be done”

What is the first step I am going to take as a leader to get my ministry into better shape?
Why am I doing what I am doing? I need to remind myself of these things on a continual basis. What do I believe God is going to do through me? What environment enables me to be at my most focussed and creative? What mistake have I made recently? What did I learn from it?
