NHA Certification Exams National Healthcareer Association (NHA), the designated organization for determining certification standards for healthcare professionals, offers current healthcare workers, union members, and graduates who successfully complete one of the following approved training programs, the opportunity to demonstrate proficiency in their field. The costs of the NHA certification exams are eligible for VA reimbursement and NHA certification is recognized by 1199/SEIU. The Kingsborough Simulation Center for Emergency Care and the Health Sciences KINGSBOROUGH COMMUNITY COLLEGE, IN COLLABORATION WITH ITS OFFICE OF CONTINUING EDUCATION, is now a recognized American Heart Association (AHA) Training Site. We offer AHA courses for healthcare personnel such as, but not limited to, paramedics, EMTs, nurses, surgical technologists, physician assistants, certified nurse aides, physicians and dentists. We also offer other AHA life-saving courses such as First Aid, Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) use. All of our instructors are credentialed by the AHA, seasoned professionals, and have been carefully selected to provide instruction and proficiency in these areas. We can also create additional courses to meet your organizational needs. Due to strict AHA policies, however, we do require a minimum number of students in each course in order to maintain an acceptable instructor: student ratio.

This advanced highly interactive course provides the skills to highlight the importance of team dynamics and communication, systems of care, immediate post-cardiac arrest care, and the identification and initial care of other life-threatening clinical situations such as a stroke. Kingsborough Community College is a New York State Department of Health certified training center, and is pleased to offer an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course designed for first-responders to medical emergencies.

This EMT Certification program prepares you for the New York State Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services Certification, which is valid for three years. Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) are the first members of the health care team to respond to a medical emergency.

SMALL BUSINESS 2-HOUR WORKSHOPS The Brooklyn Economic Development Corporation (BEDC), in conjunction with Kingsborough Community College, presents several workshops for small business owners and entrepreneurs. Each class is two (2) hours. Class fee: $25 Introduction to Entrepreneurship

This is a 2-hour overview of the risks and benefits of self-employment. Participants will be introduced to the attributes of being a successful entrepreneur, and gain an understanding of the responsibilities and rewards of “being your own boss.”

The Commercial Real Estate Series will present three workshops relating to leasing or buying commercial properties in New York City. These classes will be taught by an attorney, but are not intended to substitute for the services of a licensed attorney familiar with individual negotiations.

Understanding a Commercial Lease

This workshop guides participants through a typical commercial lease and alerts them to provisions that can lead to an unfavorable lease. Participants will learn the “language” of a lease: “triple net,” “escalations,” “demising walls,” “CAM charges,” etc. They will also learn about their rights as a commercial tenant in NYC.

Negotiating a Commercial Lease

This workshop helps participants understand what type of lease provisions and concessions they can typically negotiate with a landlord. Commercial landlords will learn the basics of structuring a tenant lease.

Understanding a Commercial Building Sale Contract

This workshop provides general guidance in negotiating a contract for the sale or purchase of commercial property.

To avoid disappointment, you should register for your class as early as possible. Some courses fill quickly; others may be cancelled before the first day of class due to low enrollment. Choose from one of five ways to register:

Go three lights and make a right onto Emmons Ave. Make a left on Shore Blvd. which runs into West End Ave. Go two lights and make a left onto Oriental Blvd. Proceed to main gate of college campus and parking.

From Brooklyn From the West, take the Belt Parkway Eastbound to Exit 8 Coney Island Avenue. Turn right at Guider Avenue and continue to traffic light. Turn right onto E. 12th Street. At traffic light turn left onto Neptune Avenue. Turn right at traffic light onto Cass Place and proceed to second light. Turn right onto West End Ave. At second light make a left onto Oriental Blvd and go straight to the main gate of the college.
