NHA Certification Exams National Healthcareer Association (NHA), the designated organization for determining certification standards for healthcare professionals, offers current healthcare workers, union members, and graduates who successfully complete one of the following approved training programs, the opportunity to demonstrate proficiency in their field. The costs of the NHA certification exams are eligible for VA reimbursement and NHA certification is recognized by 1199/SEIU. KINGSBOROUGH COMMUNITY COLLEGE, IN COLLABORATION WITH ITS OFFICE OF CONTINUING EDUCATION, is now a recognized American Heart Association (AHA) Training Site. We offer AHA courses for healthcare personnel such as, but not limited to, paramedics, EMTs, nurses, surgical technologists, physician assistants, certified nurse aides, physicians and dentists. We also offer other AHA life-saving courses such as First Aid, Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) use. All of our instructors are credentialed by the AHA, seasoned professionals, and have been carefully selected to provide instruction and proficiency in these areas. A $25 non-refundable registration fee will be added to the cost of each course. We can also create additional courses to meet your organizational needs. RTP 41 Advanced Cardiac Life Support for Healthcare Providers (ACLS) (T) This advanced highly interactive course provides the skills to highlight the importance of team dynamics and communication, systems of care, immediate post-cardiac arrest care, and the identification and initial care of other life-threatening clinical situations such as a stroke. ACLS also covers airway management and related pharmacology. Using the latest 2010 AHA guidelines, there will be large-group sessions and small-group learning and testing stations where case-based scenarios are presented and reviewed. EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN (EMT) Kingsborough Community College is a New York State Department of Health certified training center, and is pleased to offer an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course designed for first-responders to medical emergencies. This EMT Certification program prepares you for the New York State Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services Certification, which is valid for three years. Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) are the first members of the health care team to respond to a medical emergency.

Tuition is $995 plus a $15 materials fee. Applicants must be able to read and write English, be at least 18 years of age, pass a pre-registration screening placement exam, and possess a CPR for healthcare providers certification.

SMALL BUSINESS 2-HOUR WORKSHOPS The Brooklyn Economic Development Corporation (BEDC), in conjunction with Kingsborough Community College, presents several workshops for small business owners and entrepreneurs. Each class is two (2) hours. Class fee: $25 Introduction to Entrepreneurship

This is a 2-hour overview of the risks and benefits of self-employment. Participants will be introduced to the attributes of being a successful entrepreneur, and gain an understanding of the responsibilities and rewards of “being your own boss.”

The Commercial Real Estate Series will present three workshops relating to leasing or buying commercial properties in New York City. These classes will be taught by an attorney, but are not intended to substitute for the services of a licensed attorney familiar with individual negotiations.

Understanding a Commercial Lease

This workshop guides participants through a typical commercial lease and alerts them to provisions that can lead to an unfavorable lease. Participants will learn the “language” of a lease: “triple net,” “escalations,” “demising walls,” “CAM charges,” etc. They will also learn about their rights as a commercial tenant in NYC.

Negotiating a Commercial Lease

This workshop helps participants understand what type of lease provisions and concessions they can typically negotiate with a landlord. Commercial landlords will learn the basics of structuring a tenant lease.

Understanding a Commercial Building Sale Contract

This workshop provides general guidance in negotiating a contract for the sale or purchase of commercial property.

Kid’s Yoga Start a life-long foundation of developing your body and mind. Yoga for kids is not only fun but also helps to increase concentration, focus and attention.

Math-Ademics Math is presented in an enjoyable non-threatening environment. Skills covered will reflect current grade-appropriate curricula.

Learn the basic skills, rules and tactics of soccer and basketball. You will have the option to play either sport. You must wear sneakers.

Swimming Beginners gain confidence in the water and those with some swimming ability learn kicking, stroking and breathing. Bring towel, swimsuit and a combination lock. Children must be at least 52” tall to swim. NO EXCEPTIONS. You will be measured!

Tennis Develop the skills to compete successfully at the popular game of tennis. Materials required: An appropriately sized racquet and one sealed can of 3 tennis balls. You must wear sneakers.

Microsoft Office for Kids Learn the essentials of Microsoft™ applications in this fun and informative course. Learn how to prepare book reports, presentations, graphs and more.

ADULT CLASSES

To avoid disappointment, you should register for your class as early as possible. Some classes fill quickly; others may be cancelled before the first day of class due to low enrollment. Choose from one of the following five ways to register:

Continuing Education courses are designed for adults 18 years of age and older with the exception of the College For Kids Program and the SAT/Regents Test-Prep. See programs for individual requirements.

NOTIFICATION OF POLICY All Continuing Education participants are required to follow the College rules and regulations. After exiting make a right at the stop sign onto Voorhies Ave. Go to the second light and make a right onto Sheepshead Bay Rd. Go three lights and make a right onto Emmons Ave. Make a left on Shore Blvd. which runs into West End Ave. Go two lights and make a left onto Oriental Blvd. Proceed to main gate of college campus and parking.

ADOBE CS6™ BEGINNER: ILLUSTRATOR, PHOTOSHOP AND INDESIGN This is a basic course for beginners and covers an introduction to the three main programs of Adobe’s Creative Suite™.
