Geography

EXAMINATION BOARD: CIE

Geography is the fusion between the natural world and the social world; we study how various processes shape our planet (physical geography) and the impact on society (human geography). Human geography concerns the understanding of the dynamics of cultures, societies and economies, and physical geography concerns the understanding of the dynamics of physical landscapes and the environment.

WOULD SUIT:

Someone who is keen to learn about the world that they live in, with a natural curiosity and desire to learn about the Earth’s landscapes, people, places and environments.

FURTHER STUDY/CAREERS:

Geography is great for any kind of career that involves the environment, planning, or collecting and interpreting data. Popular careers for people with Geography qualifications include: conservation, town or transport planning, surveying, sustainability, waste and water management, environmental planning, tourism, and weather forecasting. The army, police, government, research organisations, law and business world also look for candidates with the practical research skills that geographers develop. Because geographers learn about human and population development, Geography can also be useful for jobs in charity and international relation.
