Rocky Mtn. Bighorn Sheep (Ovis Canadensis) Bighorn sheep live in large herds, and do not typically follow a single leader ram. Prior to the rut, the rams attempt to establish a dominance hierarchy to determine access to ewes for mating. During the pre-rut period, most of the characteristic horn clashing occurs between rams. The new world record bighorn ram (pictured above) was picked up in Wild Horse Island State Park, Montana in 2016.

Black Bear (Ursus Americanus) Despite their name, black bears can range in color from dark brown and black to light cinnamon brown. Black bears are great tree climbers and are diverse habitat adapters with extreme metabolism that allows them to survive for months without food. The world record black bear was found dead in Sanpete County, Utah in 1975.

Coyote (Canis Latrans) Coyotes tend to be darker in color at higher elevations and reddish brown in desert environments. They usually travel in pairs and packs and can be seen year round. Coyotes are extremely adaptable and opportunistic carnivores capable of running up to 30 mph and can have ranges of up to 35 square miles. As of 2005, 19 coyote subspecies are recognized.

Mountain Goat (Oreamnos Americanus) Capable of moving over extremely steep and rocky terrain with ease, Mountain Goats grow a beautiful thick fur coat to withstand the cold weather of the high country. They have hooves with unique textured bottoms that actually open and contract to assist in gripping the ground. British Columbia holds the record for the largest Billy taken in 2011.

Bison are the largest mammals native to North America. They once had a population of nearly 100 million, but became virtually extinct by 1880. Recovery efforts have led to managed productive wild herds at a current population of 150,000. At the time bison ran wild, they were rated second only to the Alaska brown bear as a potential killer, more dangerous than the grizzly bear.

Caribou are the only member of the deer family where both males and females have antlers. The caribou are well adapted to cooler climates, with hollow-hair fur that covers almost all of its body including its nose, and provides insulation in winter and flotation for swimming. They have the largest antlers relative to body size among living deer species.

Desert Bighorn Sheep (Ovis Canadensis Nelsoni) The desert sheep is a subspecies of bighorn sheep and is native to the deserts of the Southwestern United States and Northwestern Mexico. They can go extended periods of time, weeks and even months, without drinking water. The rams may rub their own horns to improve their field of view. The world record desert sheep comes from Mexico dating back to 1940.

Pronghorn (Antilocapra Americana) Pronghorn rely on their speed to evade pursuers and will not hide like most deer. They do not typically jump fences the way deer do, but will squeeze through or below fences that contain cattle. In 2013, the largest pronghorn in recorded history was taken by a hunter in New Mexico and surpassed the previous record pronghorn by one inch.

Moose are the largest member of the deer family and have distinct wide palmate antlers. They also have long heads and noses and can have a beard-like tuft under their neck called a dew-flap. They are commonly found in cold regions and do not perspire, which is why you often find them cooling off in lakes and ponds when temperatures warm. The widest moose rack on record spans over 80-inches wide.

Prior to the European colonization of North America, there were an estimated 10 million elk on the continent. By 1907 there were only 41,000 elk. Today, with the help of conservation and relocation efforts by hunters, estimated population now exceeds 1 million. The world record typical American elk was taken in Arizona in 1968 and scored 442 5/8 B&C.

New For 2019 The King’s Wildlife Calendar features stunning photography that showcases the beauty and majesty of twelve of North America’s greatest and most popular game animals. Each month you will enjoy not only a great photo but a short bio about the animal combined with an all new updated layout and design that is both functional and appealing hanging on the wall. Presenting such animals as the moose, sheep, pronghorn, caribou, and mountain goat along with such staples as the whitetail deer, mule deer and elk, the 2019 King’s Wildlife Calendar offers a quality look and feel you won’t find anywhere else.

Game/Fish Activity Forecast When time is limited, or you just want to increase your odds as best as possible to find and see more game and fish, we have included our Activity Forecast. This gives you the days for highest activity for the month, it is scientifically proven that both game and fish are affected by moon patterns. Look for the moon and star icons included on each month for peak activity days.
