Every Upper School student is also required to participate in some capacity (actor, set designer, lighting designer, lighting technician) in one theatrical production before graduation. Each student must also participate in interscholastic athletics for one sport season or for a minimum of 100 hours from ninth through twelfth grade. ADVANCED COURSEWORK ADVANCED PLACEMENT PROGRAM (AP) – Every effort is made to limit students to no more than three AP Courses a year. These courses are open to students with a record of strong academic performance and sophistication. Admission is based upon teacher recommendations and reviewed by the Academic Dean, Department Chairs, and the Head of the Upper School. AP courses for the 2015-2016 year are: Biology, Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Chemistry, Comparative Government, Computer Science, English Literature, English Language, European History, French Language, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Physics 1, Physics C, Politics, Spanish Literature, Spanish Language, Statistics, Music Theory and U.S. History. All students enrolled in AP courses are required to take the appropriate AP exam. HONORS COURSES (H) – Honors courses are advanced and/or accelerated. INDEPENDENT STUDY PROGRAM (T) – Independent Studies are semester or year honors level courses in which students work independently on a topic of their design under the direction of a faculty mentor from the appropriate department. Weekly meetings and a substantial final paper/presentation are required.
