We have sent many thousands of students to leading universities around the UK. These institutions consistently applaud the quality of the students we send to them. Here is what a few of the universities have to say about Kings students.
Every year, as part of the University Application Programme, we hold university fairs at each of our Colleges, at which representatives from many of the major UK universities will discuss their courses and your options. See pages 24 – 25 for more information.
“ Kings students prove to be of a very high standard and are well prepared for their university studies. We are always happy to meet with the students on Kings pre-university programmes during our visits to the colleges. ”

OUR STUDENTCENTRED COMMUNITY
The Kings learning environment fits around the needs of our students — not the other way round. We will take the time to find out about your own strengths and ambitions, and will design an academic pathway and support plan personalised to your needs. Take your place within our supportive learning community.
An empowering, nurturing learning environment
Through our consistently studentcentred approach, Kings students can reach higher than they otherwise could; can achieve more than they thought possible; can go on to success at some of the finest universities in the world.
The right learning environment is crucial to ensure international students achieve their best. Our students feel secure, supported and empowered.
Complete care and support An international student needs specialist support. We ensure that the total student experience is a happy, fulfilling and enriching one. That way it will also be a successful one.
A diverse, international learning community Ours is a fully international community so no one feels like an outsider. Our students come to us from over 80 countries. They are accepted and supported regardless of race, nationality or background. And because we have such a diverse community, interaction can only be through the shared language of English.
Personal development in a modern, global context
An international student has so much to contend with before they set foot inside a UK classroom — the language, culture and social environment are all new.
At Kings, our students don’t wear uniforms. They are not expected to learn mottos or adopt ancient rituals.
At Kings, we place huge emphasis on managing this transition to a new way of living and learning. The sooner a student is settled, the sooner they are able to succeed academically.
They are expected, instead, to develop independent minds and to show tolerance to their fellow students. Each student plays their part in our modern global community.

DEVELOPING UNIVERSITYREADY STUDENTS
Our educational philosophy stems from a crucial fact: in today’s ultra competitive world, academic ability on its own is no longer sufficient for acceptance to the best UK universities. Kings students are accepted by the UK’s best universities each year because we help them develop their full potential — inside and outside of the classroom.
Peter Fyne, Head of Science at Kings London, oversees an experiment in the college science lab. See our Science and Medicine video: kingseducation.com/more
When you apply to university in the UK you will be competing against excellent candidates — both from the UK and internationally. To help you stand out you will need to demonstrate extracurricular experience, outside interests, and a broader social awareness in addition to your academic ability.
KINGS EDUCATION

2.Extracurricular learning At Kings, learning outside the classroom is just as important as learning inside. Our academic enrichment programme makes learning come alive by giving you the opportunity to see how what you study in the classroom has practical implications in the real world. EXTRACURRICULAR LEARNING
Developing your full potential is so important at Kings that participation in at least one activity outside class each term is compulsory for every student. We have developed a way to recognise and celebrate broad interests through the Kings Community Award. The Martial Arts Club focuses on mixed martial arts varying from boxing to jiu-jitsu. Each week the club members are trained by a professional instructor on different techniques from a variety of martial arts.
This is a discussion group for students interested in issues and events around the world that affect our wildlife, health and ecology. The club looks at science in film, TV, documentaries and podcasts. University lectures are also included.
Debating Society
Paper Craft Club
Singing/Choir Club
The Debating Society is an excellent way for students to improve confidence, make new friends and improve their speaking skills. Every week students tackle some of the most important global current affairs topics.
This club teaches various methods and techniques to create beautiful and intricate paper based crafts such as cards, origami and sculptures. It is popular with creative students, allowing them to put their own artistic inspirations into their pieces.
The Singing Club is a great outlet for all aspiring musicians, singers or students. The club aims to learn a new piece of music as a group, including melody, percussion and vocals.
Football Club
Performing Arts Club
Textiles Club
The club is open to players of all levels, from beginner to advanced. Each week the members meet at a local leisure centre to train on techniques, game tactics and positioning. There is a weekly football match between the members of the club.
The Performing Arts Club caters for students who want to “let off steam through dance and song. Every term the club learns new songs and dances, and works towards putting on a performance for staff and students alike.
Textiles Club teaches members various techniques based around textiles and design, from knitting to re-designing clothes. Members are encouraged to bring old clothes and learn how to redesign them, alter them and create something new!
Guitar Club
Photography Society
Yoga/Pilates Club
The Guitar Club is run by an experienced guitar teacher and is open to students of all levels and abilities. Whether you love acoustic, rock or jazz guitar you can have lessons, or just get involved in jamming sessions or performances.
This society encourages students to record the world around them and then edit images using Photoshop. Photographs are entered for competitions and are exhibited online and in print. Meetings also include photo shoots and visits to galleries.
The Kings Yoga Club gets together to practise this ancient Indian activity. A trained yoga instructor takes the group through all of the foundations of yoga and explains how the movements can benefit each participant.
KINGS COLLEGES
Chess Club is popular with all students. It is a challenging and technical game where strategy is key! The club meets each week to discuss commonly used strategies and to play against each other.

KINGS SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Donations from Kings have funded the building of a brand new school in the Kro Lorng region of Cambodia.
At Kings, teaching and learning is at our core. For us, though, it doesn’t just take place in the classroom. Instead, we view teaching and learning as a broad and constant process which enables us all to become better citizens — locally and globally.

United World Schools Kings Education is proud to support United World Schools. The UWS vision is simple but purposeful: “To teach the unreached”. United World Schools builds and sustains new schools in some of the world’s most disadvantaged regions. UWS supports communities by providing free basic education for children who would otherwise go without.
KINGS EDUCATION
We aim to make a difference across three main areas within Kings Social Responsibility — Sustainability, Community and Education.
Kings Education has committed to fund the building and resourcing of at least one new school each year, focusing initially on Cambodia. To do this we engage students, staff and partners in devising exciting fundraising ideas.
Kings Education is committed to developing and implementing policies which allow us to operate in an environmentally sustainable way. We are also committed to nurturing a culture in which a heightened awareness and responsiveness to a sustainable life is encouraged.

Global Citizenship Award As part of our partnership with United World Schools, all our students have the opportunity to work towards the UWS Global Citizenship Award. This recognises outstanding achievement within the context of the work of UWS.
We are committed to encouraging students and staff to play an active role within their wider communities at the local and global level. We are also dedicated to making a positive difference in each of the communities to which we belong — locally, nationally and internationally.
Fundraising events at Kings Staff and students at all of our Colleges take part in regular fundraising events. These have included cake sales, skydiving challenges, a Tour de France sweepstake, charity auctions and many more.
KINGS COLLEGES
Education Our ethos is to provide each of our students with a broad educational experience, both in and out of the classroom. This might be within their learning programme, as part of their extracurricular activities or within the wider context of their local communities.

A-levels:
Subjects available At the beginning of term we will introduce you to different subjects and help you choose the final subjects most appropriate for your future degree. Depending on your needs and strengths, you will take 3 (or in exceptional circumstances 4) subjects. There may also be additional subjects available, depending on College location and demand (for example Accountancy, Business or Sociology). You also have the option of preparing for an exam in your own language. A-level Art and Design These courses will develop your intellectual, imaginative, creative and reflective skills. You’ll also develop investigative, analytical, experimental, practical, technical, and expressive skills, an aesthetic understanding and critical judgement. You’ll gain an understanding of the inter-relationships between art, craft and design, and an awareness of the contexts in which they operate as well as knowledge and understanding of art, craft and design in contemporary society and in other times and cultures. Kings offers different endorsements, for example Art, Craft and Design, Fine Art, and 3D Design. Note: A-level Art and Design is not suitable for beginners in the subject. The course presupposes a student has GCSE Art and Design or equivalent. A-level Biology Biology is probably the most accessible of the three sciences, as it can be related naturally to all aspects of life. You study carefully, and in detail, how life in the world works: how our bodies work; how diseases stop them working; how plants grow; how life may be threatened by poisonous substances; how ecosystems work; where energy comes from and how organisms use it; how genes and evolution affect us all. A-level Chemistry Chemistry is the study of all chemical substances and how they can change. You’ll learn to understand these and see in new ways the things that make up the world; your food, fuels and fabrics, building materials and manufactured goods, the air you breathe, the tools you use. You’ll study atoms and reactions, bonding and structure, hydrocarbons, polymers and alcohols, energetics and transition elements. You’ll use Mathematics to describe and understand chemical ideas. You’ll devise and carry out practical experiments to test the principles you are learning.
A-level Economics The course develops an understanding of economic concepts and theories through a critical consideration of current economic issues, problems and institutions that affect everyday life. It also teaches you to apply economic concepts and theories in a range of contexts and to appreciate their value and limitations in explaining real-world phenomena. You will analyse, explain and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the market economy and the role of government within it.
A-level History The course develops your use and understanding of historical terms, concepts and skills. The periods studied develop your interest in, and understanding of, important developments allowing you to understand the wider perspective of change and developments over a substantial length of time. You will study significant individuals, societies, events and issues, analysing different historical perspectives, for example aesthetic, cultural, economic, ethnic, political, religious, scientific, social and technological.
A-level Geography The course will enable you to acquire and apply knowledge and understanding of physical and human processes, their interactions and outcomes over space and time, through the study of places and environments. You’ll also acquire and apply skills necessary for the pursuit of the discipline, and will develop an understanding of the opportunities, challenges and constraints that face people in different places and environments. You’ll acquire a deeper understanding of the connections between different aspects of geography.
A-level Mathematics / Further Mathematics The course will develop your understanding of mathematics and mathematical processes and your ability to reason logically and to recognise incorrect reasoning. You will construct mathematical proofs and extend your range of mathematical skills and techniques for use in more difficult unstructured problems. You’ll also develop an understanding of coherence and progression in mathematics and of how different areas of mathematics can be connected.
A-level Government and Politics The course develops a critical awareness of the nature of politics and the relationship between political ideas, institutions and processes. You will acquire knowledge and understanding of the structures of authority and power within the political system of the UK and of other countries. You will also develop knowledge of the characteristics of the legislature, the executive and the judiciary, of the rights and responsibilities of the individual, and of ideologies, theories and traditions.
A-level Physics The course will develop your essential knowledge and understanding in physics and, where appropriate, the applications of physics in new and changing situations. You’ll develop an understanding of the link between theory and experiment, and will appreciate how physics is used in present day society. You will recognise the quantitative nature of physics and understand how mathematical expressions relate to physical principles. A-level Psychology This course will develop your knowledge and skills across a broad range of topics related to Psychology. You will examine cognitive theory as well as different aspects of Psychology — developmental, social and biological. You will also develop knowledge of psychopathology as well as practical implementations of psychology and an understanding of research methodology.

Specialist preparation for Oxbridge The world-renowned universities of Oxford and Cambridge are exceptionally competitive. Gaining a place requires equally exceptional credentials.
Helping exceptional candidates stand out
Recent Oxbridge success
At Kings we work hard to support students who have the ability and dedication to follow this path. Several of our staff are Oxbridge alumni and therefore have personal experience of the process.
University of Cambridge (#1)
We work closely with the very brightest students to turn them into the kind of candidate which Oxford and Cambridge are seeking. Of course this includes having exceptional A-level grades, but it also involves so much more.
Zixuan Xiong from China. Degree in Economics
Requirements for Oxbridge entry Students who are thinking about applying to Oxford or Cambridge will need to have the following.
Yuqi Li from China. Degree in Mathematics Tao Li from China. Degree in Engineering
1. Exceptional A-level grades Oxford will usually require a minimum of AAA A-level grades. Cambridge will usually require A*AA. Many courses may ask for more, so it is important to refer to specific course entry requirements. Kings Oxbridge Preparation: we work hard to ensure the necessary academic success of any student who would like to apply to Oxbridge. 2. Genuine subject enthusiasm and wider reading Students who can demonstrate a genuine passion for their subject and evidence of wider reading will have an advantage over those who have simply followed the syllabus. Kings Oxbridge Preparation: our subject specialist teachers will help build and progress students’ passion for their chosen subject and will provide in-depth advice on appropriate supplementary material.
3. A strong interview The Oxbridge interview is more formal and more demanding than at other universities. We advise students to expect an intellectual interrogation — but a friendly one! You may be asked to show evidence of lateral thinking, personal observation, or even to talk about a subject outside your specialism. Don’t worry. The university is looking for evidence of your intellectual adaptability and potential, not just the right answer. The key is in students’ preparation. Kings Oxbridge Preparation: we provide students with several mock interviews before the real interview. 4. Additional pre-entry tests While Cambridge asks for intricate details around AS-level results, Oxford has a wider range of pre-entry tests, so students should check if the course they’re interested in requires them to take one. Students should always do a mock test under timed conditions at least two months before the time of taking so they can see their weaknesses and attempt to do something about them.

“ This year doing the Foundation has been extremely important in terms of academic knowledge and getting to know the education system here in the UK. If I’d have gone straight to university I would definitely have more problems. The CSS in particular has been really useful. It’s not just English, it’s English for university, plus how to write academic essays and how to do presentations. I didn’t know that it was so important, but now I realise. I think this course is really great preparation for university. ”
