•
All universities require students to follow a General Education curriculum in years 1 and 2. All students, no matter where they start, will study a broad range of subjects that include English Composition, Social Sciences, Humanities, History, Mathematics and Natural or Physical Sciences. Liberal Arts universities and colleges are therefore the ideal place to start a degree as they specialize in broad subject choices.
The Higher Education system in the US is justly regarded as one of the very best in the world. All main degrees are four years but within that the system has built-in flexibility. Graduating from a respected US university opens up a vast range of opportunities, not only in your home country, but on a truly global scale.
•
In their sophomore year US students continue to study a broad General Education curriculum. They should also have started to develop their extracurricular experience.

WHY TRANSFER WORKS
THE US TRANSFER SYSTEM
1
Less competitive Universities receive a much higher number of applications for freshman entry than for sophomore or junior entry. So your chances of success in year 2 or 3 are much higher.
2
TOEFL or SAT can be waived Some transfer options may not need TOEFL or SAT.
Start with smaller classes and more support
3
Highly-ranked universities often have very large classes of over 100 students. Liberal Arts campuses, such as those of our partner universities, provide a smaller, more personal environment to help you get used to US life and learning more easily.
4
Maximize your profile and GPA Waiting until year 2 or 3 before applying for entry to your dream graduation school can give you the time to develop your academic and extracurricular strengths, giving you a better chance of acceptance.
5
Dedicated support in the USA Maximum University Options
Kings Progression Advisors are on campus to help you maximize your options, help you choose the best university, develop your personal statement, and devise a successful application strategy.
TRANSFERRING IN CALIFORNIA
It is very common for American students to transfer between universities during a four-year degree. That’s because the credit system allows academic credits gained one year to be transferred to the following year at another university. The university where a degree is completed will always issue the final degree certificate.
Earn an Associate Degree At Marymount California University, you can earn an Associate of Arts or Associate of Sciences degree on your way to a Bachelor's degree. By taking general education coursework and some major specific classes you will be able to earn an Associate's Degree after two years of study.
Eligibility for top California universities You can ensure you are eligible for many of the leading universities in California and complete the majority of general education requirements so you can focus on your major after transferring. See pages 46 – 49

A LIBERAL ARTS EDUCATION
The Liberal Arts system in the USA is based on an educational approach originally pioneered by the Ancient Greeks. They regarded a general Liberal Arts education as the ultimate mark of an educated person. Today, a Liberal Arts degree program in the USA is broad in scope, covering a range of interdisciplinary subjects across the humanities, social, natural and formal sciences.
Liberal Arts Degrees
Today’s global employers are not looking for candidates with very narrow expertise or interests. Instead, they want people who can see the bigger picture and can understand how their own area of expertise fits into a wider context.
Providing Time to Make the Right Subject Choices The system is designed to introduce you to a broad range of subjects — some of which you may not have studied before. So, even if you have a clear picture about what you want to study now, you have the time to either confirm that decision, or to investigate alternatives.
The first year or two are devoted to general educational requirements. This involves the mandatory study of a broad range of subjects which can be tailored within distinct pathways.
An Excellent Foundation for Graduate-level Study
Specialized Liberal Arts Colleges Liberal Arts colleges and universities are specialized in the broad liberal arts curriculum which all students in the US follow for their first two years. Many Liberal Arts colleges and universities are among the most respected in the US.
Low student:faculty ratio Liberal Arts colleges and universities — like Kings partners — are smaller institutions with low student:faculty ratios. This makes them perfect places to start. You’ll get to know everyone on campus — both professors and students — and will enjoy a collaborative learning experience.
Undergraduate teaching at Liberal Arts universities is done by professors. Maximum Major Options
At other large universities, degree classes are often taught by graduate assistants.
TRANSFER SUCCESS
Regular access to professors
STARTING LOCATIONS
A Liberal Arts degree also provides an excellent foundation for graduate study in Healthcare, Law, Business, or other fields. Students with a Liberal Arts background are sought after by graduate schools because they are able to demonstrate an ability to think independently and to learn across a diverse field of studies. With closer contact with professors it is usually much easier for students to acquire the vital personal letters of recommendation they need for acceptance to graduate school.
LIBERAL ARTS EDUCATION
THE KINGS DIFFERENCE
Liberal Arts teaches you to think more broadly and to make these connections. As a result, it teaches you to become a more rounded, more employable individual with transferable skills.
A Liberal Arts degree is usually earned over four years of full-time study. Students earn either a B.A. or a B.S. Diploma and can then progress to either a graduate school or a professional school.

“ During Teppei’s studies at Marymount California University he improved his personal profile by accessing resources available through Kings and MCU. Teppei tapped into MCU’s resources by attending tutoring, peer mentoring, and study skill development sessions. He was an academic role model, and made time for intramural tennis, as well as volunteering at the Boys & Girls Club, and being an active member of the International Club. I had the privilege to work with Teppei and facilitated university transfer information, course selection, transfer application and personal statement preparation. As a film studies major Teppei also received our help in preparing supplemental application requirements. ”

Canisius, and the city of Buffalo, serve as a great destination for international students who are new to studying in the US. New York State offers an ideal location for international students. Of course, there is easy access to one of the world’s great cities — New York — and great transport connections. Yet this is also a beautiful region of mountains, lakes, forests and coastline. What’s more, it is just a short trip over the border to Canada.

“ I went to Kings to get a certain course, to get a direction for how to get to my dream school. They provided me with information on how to make my educational plan, to find out what extracurricular activities I needed to do. I also went to see them to do my personal statement, to do my other essays. After graduation I will try to find a good job in a large company like Google, Apple or Microsoft, something like this. “ When I first came to the US, I had no idea how to transfer from college to college. The advisors at Kings were really nice, they helped me step by step to transfer to Boston University. “ I think the Kings team on campus are great. Especially the fact that there’s a whole center that you can go to, not only one office and one person. I would say (the Kings On Campus Plus program) is the best option for international students. It’s difficult moving to a different country, adapting to the language, the culture, the place, the people, it takes time, and Pathways allows you to accommodate for that. KINGS SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
At Kings, teaching and learning is at our core. For us, though, it doesn’t just take place in the classroom. Instead, we view teaching and learning as a broad and constant process which enables us all to become better citizens — locally and globally.
Donations from Kings have funded the building of a brand new school in the Kro Lorng region of Cambodia.

United World Schools Kings Education is proud to support United World Schools. The UWS vision is simple but purposeful: “To teach the unreached”. United World Schools builds and sustains new schools in some of the world’s most disadvantaged regions. UWS supports communities by providing free basic education for children who would otherwise go without.
HOW IT WORKS
We aim to make a difference across three main areas within Kings Social Responsibility — Sustainability, Community and Education.
Kings Education has committed to fund the building and resourcing of at least one new school each year, focusing initially on Cambodia. To do this we engage students, staff and partners in devising exciting fundraising ideas.
Kings Education is committed to developing and implementing policies which allow us to operate in an environmentally sustainable way. We are also committed to nurturing a culture in which a heightened awareness and responsiveness to a sustainable life is encouraged.

Global Citizenship Award
THE KINGS DIFFERENCE
Sustainability
As part of our partnership with United World Schools, all our students have the opportunity to work towards the UWS Global Citizenship Award. This recognizes outstanding achievement within the context of the work of UWS.
We are committed to encouraging students and staff to play an active role within their wider communities at the local and global level. We are also dedicated to making a positive difference in each of the communities to which we belong — locally, nationally and internationally.
Fundraising events at Kings Staff and students at all of our locations take part in regular fundraising events. These have included cake sales, skydiving challenges, a Tour de France sweepstake, charity auctions and many more.
TRANSFER SUCCESS
Education Our ethos is to provide each of our students with a broad educational experience, both in and out of the classroom. This might be within their learning program, as part of their extracurricular activities or within the wider context of their local communities.
STARTING LOCATIONS
Community
It might involve fundraising, raising awareness amongst peer groups or the wider community, or even some voluntary work for UWS.
In 2016 several staff members from Kings completed an ambitious 300 km cycle through Cambodia, visiting schools and raising money for UWS in the process.
