Engineering and Sciences Foundation Who is this course for?

University progression

This course is designed for students who want to apply to study an engineering or science degree at a UK university. Core modules are combined with specialist modules intended to give science and engineering students the subject specific knowledge they require in preparation for university.

Successful completion of the course allows students to progress to a range of engineering and science-related undergraduate programmes at UK university. See overleaf for details of some of the degrees Kings alumni have gone on to study.

Level: Minimum IELTS 5.0. Completed 11 – 12 years of schooling. Length: 1 Academic Year (3 terms). Or Extended version of 4 – 7 terms Lessons: Average 21 hours per week Class size: 8 – 12 Minimum age: 17 Learning outcomes: à Raise academic qualifications to UK university entrance level à Raise English to university level à Develop learning and self study skills for degree level

Additional English Preparation Students with an IELTS of 5.0 will benefit from four additional English lessons per week for the first six weeks of the programme.

Course structure and content The Foundation is based on A-level syllabuses, taught by A-level teachers, assessed against A-levels, and moderated by an independent Advisory Board of external examiners. As such, it is one of the most highly academic and successful pathways to the UK’s leading universities. The course runs for a full academic year. Students can start in September and finish in June, or start January and finish in August. Both start dates will take them on to university in September. There are three terms per year. As part of the Engineering and Science Foundation programme, students are accompanied on regular visits to places and events relevant to their studies.
