THE US EDUCATION SYSTEM The US Education System has two vital elements which enable graduation from the most elite universities. First, all students study similar general courses for the first two years and don’t specialize by declaring a major until year 3. Second, the US Transfer System means credits gained in years 1 – 2 can easily be transferred from one university to another. So it doesn’t really matter where you start. What matters is where you graduate.
“ When I first came to the US I didn’t know anything about the application process and didn’t even know where I wanted to go, but Kings really helped me with the whole process and got me to the university of my choice. ” Larry Sukarya from Indonesia Now studying Business/Finance at University of Southern California (#22)
All university students in the US — domestic and international — only specialize by declaring their major in year 3. Before that, they all take similar general education courses. Through the Transfer System credits gained in years 1 – 2 are transferred from one institution to another.

That’s why 2.5 million US students each year transfer to a better university to complete their degree. As Freshmen they don’t have to choose where to graduate — deciding too early closes off all the opportunities built into the US system. So, for millions of Americans the Transfer System is the key which unlocks graduation from the elite. The same applies to you.
Kings makes transfer simple

The thought of transferring on your own without professional support might be daunting. With Kings On Campus Plus, there’s no need to worry. Our dedicated University Advisers give you one-to-one support throughout the whole process to make your transfer smooth, simple and effective. See pages 14 – 15.
Transfer: Your best path to an elite degree 1
maller classes, S more support
If you get used to US university life before you apply to a top university, you’ll have a better chance of success. Our smaller, more personal partner universities are perfect for a smooth transition into your US degree.
2 M aximize your profile and GPA Waiting until the end of year 1 or 2 before applying for your dream school gives you time to develop your academic and extracurricular strengths. So you have a much better chance of acceptance by the elite.
3 Make an informed decision Leaving your final decision about where you want to graduate until after you’ve been in the US for a while makes a lot of sense. It means you are more likely to choose the best possible university for you.
4
aximize your chances, M maximize your options
The best universities receive many more applications for freshman (year 1) entry than for sophomore (year 2) or junior (year 3) entry. So your chances of acceptance for year 2 or 3 entry are much higher. Keep your options open. Don’t make decisions today which close of better options later.
5
TOEFL or SAT waived
You can also avoid the need for separate TOEFL or SAT scores as some universities may waive their requirement for these for transfer students.
6
raduate from your G Dream School
Remember, your Diploma will be from the university from which you graduated, not the one at which you started.

Remember… 1. You’ll graduate from a university which would have been extremely difficult to enter straight from home
2. You’ll still complete your degree in just four years* even when you transfer — the same as any American student. * Engineering and Architecture are five year degrees
3. Because our partner universities (except UW–Fox Valley) offer full Bachelors degree programs, you don’t need to transfer.

CAMPUS LIFE IN YEAR 1 On Campus Plus means being a full member of US College life from Day 1. You’ll live, learn and socialize with American students. You’ll develop new skills, new interests and new friendships. It will be an amazing experience — one you’ll remember forever.
Start your Degree from Day 1 With On Campus Plus, you can start your degree straight away — there is no need for a ”Year 0” before your degree can start.
Study with Americans from Day 1 You’ll be in regular classes with American students from the very start. So you’ll adapt to the US education system and form close connections with Americans right away.
Degree classes with College Professors Your degree classes will be with College professors. All the colleges and universities where you’ll start have low student:faculty ratios and very high levels of personalized engagement in your learning development.
Campus Clubs and Societies College life means maximizing your experiences outside class. Every campus has lots of clubs and societies to join. Arts, drama, debating, social clubs — there is always something going on and it’s a great way to make friends.
Sports and Fitness Sport is an important part of US campus life. University teams across all sports compete at the highest level, and facilities are usually equally impressive. But you can also join a sports team just for fun!

“ The second semester (at Marymount) brought me lots of new friends. Now I became more open to communicating with American students. Liza Zalogina from Russia, studied Journalism
Kateryna Kzhemanovska from Ukraine Started at Kings New York (Concordia), then accepted by Boston University (#42) and Fordham University (#70) to major in Media and Communications
TYPICAL YEAR 1 DEGREE PATHWAYS “ Kings helped me a lot in choosing what subjects I needed to take for transfer. A lot of students don’t know what subjects can have their credits transferred. ” Isabel Hui Shan Tan from Malaysia Now studying Communications at University of Michigan — Ann Arbor (#27)
There is virtually unlimited flexibility in the US education system. When you start your degree you can take your specialism in any direction because wherever you are, you’ll study a broad range of subjects in your first two tears and only specialize later. However, within this flexible system there are clear streams which can provide the best path to your intended major. Here are samples of typical Education Plans according to the most popular subject areas.

PRE-DEGREE PROGRAMS If you have the language and academic level for your chosen university you will be accepted with an unconditional offer and can enroll straight away. If you first need to develop your English, or complete High School, it’s no problem. At many locations, the Kings Center on campus delivers courses to expertly prepare you for your degree.
“ The Kings courses were like a bridge, so it made it easier for me to adapt to college life. In college, you need more English skills than you will get in high school, so at Kings, we were able to practice these skills. ” Ruijun Li from China. Now studying Finance at Michigan State University (#85)
“ I think the Kings team on campus are great. Especially the fact that there’s a whole center that you can go to, not only one office and one person. It’s difficult moving to a different country, adapting to the language, the culture, the place, the people, it takes time, and Kings allows for that. ” Giovanna Zeloni Rinaldo from Brazil. Now studying Journalism at University of Miami (#53)

The Gilbert School is fully accredited by the Connecticut State Department of Education and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. It offers a diverse range of challenging academic programs, including 13 Advanced Placement (AP) courses, and extracurricular activities which include music, drama, yearbook, art, and athletics.
Programs available Diploma Program (Years 9 – 12) Gilbert’s traditional co-educational secondary program focuses on developing the whole student, including their physical, intellectual, emotional, and social growth. It utilizes the most cutting-edge methods in education, including technology. ...including comfortable on-campus accommodations
As part of Gilbert’s Diploma Program, students who need additional support will enroll in the High School Preparation Program. This is carefully designed to provide the perfect preparation to develop the English language and study skills required to work effectively alongside American students. In addition, HSPP students will receive social support to help with orientation and integration into American life, giving them a soft landing into their US studies. Study Abroad (Years 9 – 12) This program is ideal for students who want a unique and challenging cultural experience but do not intend to graduate high school in the US. It allows students to experience one year of cultural immersion in an American high school. Students will study and live alongside fully enrolled American and international students, exposing them to both the academic challenges and social dynamics of American teenage life. Accelerated College Degree Program (Years 11 and 12) Students in year 11 and 12 also have the opportunity to study in the Accelerated College Degree Program (ADP), which allows students to complete up to one year of university-level education while still in high school. These classes are taken as part of the regular junior and senior year curriculum and include a variety of subjects including English, Mathematics, and Science.
Students study Math, Science, English, Social Studies, the Arts, Career and Technology, Wellness, and World Languages.
