KING’S HIGH JOIN US
King’s High is an academically selective school. As is common with most independent schools, an entrance examination determines where your daughter is educationally and whether she might reach her full potential with us.
The Admissions process has four required steps: • An interview with the Head Master or a member of his Senior Management Team to take place in the Spring or Summer term of Year 5 • Registration for our entrance examination • Sitting the entrance examination • A report from your daughter’s current school We encourage parents and their daughters to visit the school and find out more about us, and discover for themselves if King’s High is the right environment for them. It is never too soon to visit and you are very welcome to attend as many of our events as you wish.

Reference requested from your daughter’s current school. Transition we understand that starting a new school can be daunting and feel it helps with the transition process for your daughter to start to familiarise herself with what will be her new surroundings and to meet fellow pupils and teachers before she starts. To help her with this, we have a programme of special events that we would strongly encourage her to attend. These events take place in December, January, February and the summer term. You will receive more information about them should your daughter be offered a place at King’s High. A formal Induction Afternoon for new girls and their parents is held in June and includes talks by key members of staff and an introduction to Year 7 form tutors. For sample examination papers please visit the ‘join us’ section of the website.

SCHOLARSHIPS AND BURSARIES A scholarship or bursary could provide your child with the chance to have an excellent education and a wealth of opportunity, which could make an enormous difference to your child’s future.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE? Scholarships are available to reward excellence and talent. They are awarded on a merit basis and are determined by a student’s academic or other ability. Scholarships are generally up to the value of 20% of fees, based on the results of the entrance examination and other assessments.
All scholarships can be enhanced with a bursary of up to 100%, if applicants meet the financial criteria of the bursary and if the funds are available. Bursaries are awards offering free or discounted fees based on financial need. The Foundation Awards scheme offers the possibility of free or discounted places based on means testing. The bursaries are offered on a sliding scale, dependent upon parental income and subject to results of entrance examination and interview. They are awarded on a competitive basis and are limited to funds available. Each bursary is reassessed annually. Within the bursaries available from the Foundation, are the CV34 Awards. These funds are specifically earmarked for children whose families live within the CV34 postcode and are sourced from the King Henry VIII Endowed Trust, Warwick.

QUESTIONS Does my daughter require special coaching for the King’s High School Entrance Exam? No. However, we recommend that if your daughter’s school does not practise Verbal Reasoning, you purchase some papers just to accustom your daughter to this particular type of test. You can see sample English and Mathematics entrance papers on our website and it can be useful to bring these to your daughter’s school’s attention to determine if she will have covered the work on which she will be examined.

How competitive is entry into King’s High School?
How will my daughter be helped to settle in?
We receive around 200 applications and usually have four forms of entry of 24 girls in every form.
Before your daughter starts, she will come to an Induction afternoon with you and an Induction morning with her new classmates. She will have a Form tutor, a Head of Year 7, a Sixth Form “Mother” and a Year 8 “Sister” to look after her. The Year 7 Bonding Weekend in September will also help her to bond with her peers.
How many girls come from Warwick Preparatory school? Approximately a third of the year group comes from WPS. These girls are divided between the forms. How many schools send their pupils to King’s High School? In the last three years, we have received pupils from between 40-50 state maintained and independent schools. Does King’s High School look for a certain type of pupil? We look for personal attributes such as individuality, enthusiasm to contribute to school life and a willingness to grasp all opportunities which will come their way during their time at King’s High.
How can I be certain my daughter will thrive at King’s High School? Before your daughter commences Year 7 there are a number of specialist events which will ensure she’s familiar with the school, and she has met other new girls as well as current Year 7 girls, and teachers. This culminates with the Induction day in June. Once your daughter joins King’s High there is a robust pastoral care system in place to ensure each and every girl is nurtured and supported as much as possible. This includes a dedicated Head of Year 7, specialist teachers, as well as the School Family Scheme, which ensures girls in Year 7 are supported and mentored by girls from Year 8 and Sixth Form. Wellbeing is a key focus at the school and learning support systems are also in place such as Boost. For more information or to book an appointment to visit the school please contact our Head of Admissions, Mrs Gina Worrall: admissions@kingshighwarwick.co.uk 01926 735461
