We also offer an All Rounder Scholarship and Academic Scholarships. Scholarships are awarded based on assessments and interviews. Transition to King’s We understand that starting a new school is a big step and know from experience that meeting her teachers, and fellow pupils, and familiarising herself with the school before she joins will give your daughter confidence to make a smooth transition to senior school. To help her with this, we have a programme of special events that we would strongly encourage her to attend. These events take place in December, January, February and the summer term. You will receive more information about them should your daughter be offered a place at King’s High.
SCHOLARSHIPS We offer a wide range of Academic Scholarships for Sixth Form applicants. Examinations and assessments take place in November with offers posted in December. Alternatively girls may apply on predicted GCSE grades. Applicants should be capable of gaining very good GCSE results, with at least grade 6 in all of their subjects and usually grades 7-9 in the subjects they intend to take at A Level.
A formal Induction Afternoon for new girls and their parents is held in June and includes talks by key members of staff and an introduction to Year 7 form tutors. For sample examination papers, please visit the Admissions section of the website.

SCHOLARSHIPS AND BURSARIES A scholarship or bursary could provide your child with the chance to have an excellent education and a wealth of opportunity, which could make an enormous difference to your child’s future.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE? Scholarships are available to reward excellence and talent. They are awarded on a merit basis and are determined by a student’s academic or other ability. Scholarships are generally up to the value of 20% of fees, based on the results of the entrance examination and other assessments. All scholarships can be enhanced with a bursary of up to 100%, if applicants meet the financial criteria of the bursary and if the funds are available. Bursaries are awards offering free or discounted fees based on financial need. The Foundation Awards scheme offers the possibility of free or discounted places based on means testing. The bursaries are offered on a sliding scale, dependent upon parental income and subject to results of entrance examination and interview. They are awarded on a competitive basis and are limited to funds available. Each bursary is reassessed annually. Within the bursaries available from the Foundation, are the CV34 Awards. These funds are specifically earmarked for children whose families live within the CV34 postcode and are sourced from the King Henry VIII Endowed Trust, Warwick.
DOES MY DAUGHTER REQUIRE SPECIAL COACHING FOR THE KING’S HIGH SCHOOL ENTRANCE EXAM? No. However, we recommend that if your daughter’s school does not practise Verbal Reasoning, you purchase some papers just to accustom your daughter to this particular type of test. You can see sample English and Mathematics entrance papers on our website and it can be useful to bring these to your daughter’s school’s attention to determine if she will have covered the work on which she will be examined.
HOW COMPETITIVE IS ENTRY INTO KING’S HIGH SCHOOL? We receive around 200 applications and usually have five forms of entry of 24 girls in every form.
HOW MANY GIRLS COME FROM WARWICK PREPARATORY SCHOOL? Approximately 40% of the year group comes from WPS. These girls are divided between the forms.
HOW MANY SCHOOLS SEND THEIR PUPILS TO KING’S HIGH SCHOOL? In the last three years, we have received pupils from between 40-50 state maintained and independent schools.
DOES KING’S HIGH SCHOOL LOOK FOR A CERTAIN TYPE OF PUPIL? We look for personal attributes such as individuality, enthusiasm to contribute to school life and a willingness to grasp all opportunities which will come their way during their time at King’s High.
10 | ADMISSIONS 2020
HOW WILL MY DAUGHTER BE HELPED TO SETTLE IN? Before your daughter starts, she will come to an induction afternoon with you, and an induction morning with her new classmates. She will have a Form tutor, a Head of Year 7, a House family with a Sixth Form ‘House parent’, and a Year 8 ‘House sibling’ to look after her. The Year 7 Bonding trip in September will also help her to bond with her peers.
HOW CAN I BE CERTAIN MY DAUGHTER WILL THRIVE AT KING’S HIGH SCHOOL? Before your daughter commences Year 7 there are a number of specialist events which will ensure she’s familiar with the school, and she has met other new girls as well as current Year 7 girls, and teachers. This culminates with the Induction day in June. Once your daughter joins King’s High there is a robust pastoral care system in place to ensure each and every girl is nurtured and supported as much as possible. This includes a dedicated Head of Year 7, specialist teachers, as well as the House Family Scheme, which ensures girls in Year 7 are supported and mentored by girls from Year 8 and Sixth Form. Wellbeing is a key focus at the school and learning support systems are also in place such as Boost.
