Headmaster’s Message
UNITED AS WE ADMIRE the beautiful King’s Ridge Christian School High School and Kendrick Center for Life Impact, I am continually reminded of the stories that unfolded throughout our journey to make these buildings a reality. I am often asked how a school community can unite so quickly to provide funding for such a lofty project. My response is always the same. The families and friends of King’s Ridge are generous

LOWER SCHOOL
TECHNOLOGY LOWER SCHOOL STUDENTS traditionally work to develop foundational skills but, with the use of emerging technologies, learning is amplified as these tools engage the students, expand their view of the world and allow them to create in authentic learning activities. Whether students collaborate across the room or across the globe they learn more about themselves and others. Faculty members facilitate learning by guiding students to prepare, apply and develop ideas. King’s Ridge students benefit from the technology infrastructure and access to machines as a result of the investments of donors. As a result,

It is a concept that we will carry forward and hone to best meet the needs of our Middle School students.
MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS f a c e a tremendous amount of pressure and many different people in their lives pull them in numerous directions. Wi th al l that students experience during their Middle School years, fostering a spirit of unity can be challenging at times. During certain times of the year more than others, peer relations can become strained and poor decisions are made – decisions that undermine the mission of King’s Ridge Christian School.
We knew that we wanted to get ahead of some of the relational issues and we discussed several ways to do that d u r i n g t h e s c h o o l y e a r. I n t h e s p r i n g , we planned and implemented our RAoR Week, an outflowing of our RAoR (Random Acts of Recognition) Program, the goals of which were to:
Set the bar and show students what kind of Christian community we want to have at KRCS. Do our best to get ahead of some of the issues that tend to arise this time of year and help our students finish the year strong socially and academically. DOUG PESCE
Middle School Principal

RAoR week was made up of several parts, including a Social Media talk, “I Wish I Would Have Known” presentation by some of the High School students and the introduction of “houses” in our M i d d l e S c h o o l . The six houses were vehicles t h r o u g h w h i c h c o m p e t i t i o n s and other activities were delivered and it helped connect students with others that they did not know very well.

The Value of Mission Trips
Mission Trips During the 2012-2013 school year, our 7th and 8th grade students were introduced to mission work through trips to Birmingham, AL and New Orleans, LA. Both of these journeys were designed to be “first steps” toward learning the joy of serving others and to expose our younger students to serious needs right here in America.
Well-organized mission trips bring about change…change to both the people served and in students’ lives, as well.
Our High School students experienced similar local exposure through a weekend working with SafeHouse Outreach Ministries in downtown Atlanta. It was a joy to see our young people praying with, serving meals to, and sharing encouraging words with homeless men and women of downtown Atlanta! In the spring, two groups of High School students ventured beyond our borders. One group was challenged both emotionally and physically through their week in Jamaica. The other experienced the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of working with two different indigenous peoples in Ecuador, South America. For several days, our high schoolers served Andes Indians in the mountains of Ecuador and the Amazonian Indians of the Coastal Basin of Ecuador. Each community was vastly unique and different than the other in culture, language and need, yet the same God was present and active within the ministries of both of these tribal groups! KRCS students often come back from mission trips with newfound desires to serve in their local communities and to help those less fortunate than themselves. They’ve gained a new perspective and have learned the great secret of life – it is more blessed to give than to receive and to serve rather than be served.

Senior Talks
AT THE END of a long road of schooling, the final prize of a diploma represents years of hard work and learning. In a college preparatory school, a college acceptance letter is another earned document that opens the door to the next step of higher education and any scholarship money is icing on the cake. Benefits of a King’s Ridge experience becomes clear when alumni provide feedback about their thorough preparation for college level work. This foundation leads to strong grade point averages, research papers featured as examples by college professors and peers who seek out KRCS alumni classmates to help tutor them through a college class. Besides the academic preparation, alumni note that compared to their peers they have a good grasp on time management and understand the value of building relationships with their professors when they need help with classwork or

them succeed. Each senior has the opportunity to demonstrate this confidence and communicate his or her passion in a Senior Talk.
THE IMPORTANCE OF ORGAN DONATION FINDING GOD’S PURPOSE FOR YOUR LIFE TAKING A POLITICAL STAND WHILE BEING IN THE MINORITY
ALKS
The Senior Talk is a rite of passage in which each 12th grade student selects a topic of importance and prepares a 3-5 minute speech to the entire High School student body. On any given day seniors blend into the mix of High School students, but on the day of their Senior Talk they are notably highlighted by their formal uniform and the sense of purpose on their face. As they approach the podium, a hush falls over the crowd of students who are silently curious about the topic of importance to the person they interact with in the halls, in class or on the stage or field. It is clear to those in the audience that this talk is well researched, rehearsed and pointedly direct to convince the audience of their opinion. As each ends, one can sense both the relief and the crossing of a line to the other side headed towards graduation.

Chairman of the Board Message DEAR KRCS FAMILY AND FRIENDS, The 2012-2013 school year marked the twelfth year of King’s Ridge Christian School. I am always amazed at the progress our community makes in turning vision into reality. In preparation for this year’s Annual Report, I thumbed through some of our prior editions. I came to a dead stop on page 7 of the 20102011 Annual Report. There it was – a picture, a rendering of the proposed High School Building. Now here we are a mere two years later occupying the newly opened High School Building and Kendrick Center for Life Impact! The courage, faith and perseverance of this community are second to none. From the decision to commission a $10 million capital campaign in the face of uncertain financial times, to foundations making significant commitments, to families making sacrificial pledges to reach our goal – and pledging again and then a

TO KNOW TO SERVE TO BELIEVE We are grateful to the faculty and staff that demonstrate their commitment and faith each day. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I want to express our sincere gratitude to all who have given their time, talents and treasures to multiply the blessings of King’s Ridge Christian School. We look forward to the next milestone in our journey together. God’s promise is shared in Jeremiah 29:10-12, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” We will be good stewards of the resources you entrust to us and pray that God’s hand will continue to lay upon this wonderful school.
