Golfers will again be competing for the Simmonds Cup, donated by Bruce Finnamore and Dave Patterson from the 2014 winning team.

DAVE PATTERSON EXPLAINS THE REASONING BEHIND THE NAME OF THIS MAGNIFICENT TROPHY:

“The Simmonds Cup, pictured left has been so called following research into the travels around the world of John Wesley.

John and Charles Wesley set sail from Gravesend to Savannah Georgia on the Simmonds in 1735 and it was during this journey that he first encountered members of the Moravian Church from Germany. He had already observed their selflessness and highly structured lifestyle when, in a violent storm, the ship lost its mainmast. As the English tourists were panicking in fear for their lives, the Moravians remained calm and sat on the deck praying and singing. This was to influence Wesley deeply as he developed and established his evangelical movement.”
