Take a walk down memory lane What’s in a name? you ask. ‘Everything’, we say. When one spots the estate from afar, nestled in the hills, with clouds rolling by, its sheer poetic beauty takes one’s breath away. This is where we drew our inspiration for the estate’s name - Vihangama, meaning ‘bird’s eye view’ in Kannada. In 1980, Vihangama Nursery was set up. It promoted and sold ornamental plants like Roses, Heliconia, Orchids, Cactus, Anthurium, Hybrid Crotons, different types of Palms, etc. There was also a plantation nursery for Areca nut, Coconut, Cardamom, Coffee, Pepper and spices like Clove, Nutmeg and Mace. Fruit plants like Chikoo, Mango and Gumless jack, Rambutan, and forestry plants like Acacia, Rubber, Silver oak, etc., were also cultivated. At the Bangalore & Mysore Flower shows, Vihangama Nursery put up a grand display, making even the biggest names turn their heads and take notice. In the year 2000, Vihangama ushered in the new millennium with the all new Vihangama Eco-tourism Holiday Retreat, a first of its kind retreat in the Malenadu and Sahyadri region. This home stay holiday retreat offered people rich Malenadu cultural and culinary experiences. It soon became the favorite among famous writers, film makers, Celebrities, nature lovers and those who treasured a good holiday. After the success of our Eco-tourism Holiday Retreat, we went on to open a luxury resort with the best of amenities - the Riverside Villa Holidays. Here, we offer holidays on a timeshare basis, for 7 days a year, for 15 years. By creating an online presence, we opened the doors to the world. Today, Vihangama Holidays & Resorts Pvt. This villa combines the traditional Malenadu and Kerala architecture styles with modern flourishes and fittings to create a contemporary ambience. It has 2 spacious bedrooms, and a separate drawing room. It features 2 private sit-outs looking out onto the areca nut plantation and coffee estate on one side and the Tunga River on the other side. You can even enjoy the view of the river from the bedroom. This villa can comfortably accommodate 4 adults and 4 children.

Jog Falls (115 km) The River Sharavathi cascades down more than 900 feet into a deep valley to create these world-famous waterfalls.
Kavaledurga (20 km) This magnificent fort is located on a hill at an altitude of 5056 feet, and was constructed around the 9th century AD.
Kundadri Hills (25 km) Kundadri is a mountain peak with dense forests in the Western Ghats of South India, and is home to a 17th century Jain temple.
Kollur (75 km) This is a pilgrimage centre famous for its Mookambika Temple.
Sringeri (55 km) One of the five mathas established by Sri Adi Shankara, the exponent of Advaita philosophy, right on the banks of the River Tunga.
Malpe(75 km) Malpe is a natural port about six kilometers to the west of Udupi, Karnataka, India. This is an important port and fishing harbor on the Karnataka coast.

Kodachadri (60 km) An enchanting hill station overlooking Kollur, it is the second highest peak in Karnataka. The sunrise and the sunset here are a sight to behold.
Lion Safari (60 km) It is located at Tyavarekoppa village near Shimoga and is also the home of leopards, tigers and other wildlife.

Kuppalli (16 km) It is famous for being the birthplace and childhood home of the renowned Kannada playwright and poet Kuvempu.
Thirthahalli (4 km) Thirthahalli is a panchayat town located in Shimoga District, state of Karnataka, India. It lies on the bank of river Tunga.
St. Mary’s Islands (70 km) St. Mary’s Islands, also known as Coconut Island, are a set of four small islands in the Arabian Sea, off the coast of Malpe.
Sitanadi Camp (40 km) Adreno Club at River Sita offers white water rafting and other water sports for corporate and adventure outing.
