uring the spring semester of 2015, I was blessed to study abroad in Madrid, Spain. In addition to taking classes in architecture and poetry, I was able to travel to different cities and countries in Europe and see the beautiful art and architecture first-hand. This book by no means includes all of the photos I took of the interiors and exteriors of the architecture, only some of my favorites and those that I thought were most indicative of the architecture I saw. When you visit an architectural space that commands awe, your eyes gravitate towards the top, thereby increasing that awe. In cathedrals, the high ceilings and elaborate cupolas lead your eye towards the heavens, hopefully aiming your thoughts towards God. I wanted to capture that awe by mainly taking pictures of the ceilings of places I’ve visited. You will see full page spreads and detail pictures of ceilings as well as full buildings, but most of all, I hope you develop a newfound appreciation what is above, and to experience the awe that I had in the moment. Enjoy.
