RE-THINKING SOCIAL LIFE IN URBAN ENVIRONMENTS Semester 9 & 10 l Year 5 Design Dissertation Mentors: Ms. Dipal Chhaya Site: Lower Parel
Public spaces are co-produced, activated by people and have dynamic and changing patterns. My research revolves around the idea of multifunctional public spaces as thoroughfares and not as separate entities in the urban fabric. It talks about the informalities and public life existing in shared spaces, everyday spaces and in-betweens which enables social interaction. These In-betweens act as undefined public realms that are flexible, adaptable and temporary in nature. They can act as a connector to multiple functions giving rise to new communities which help in transforming and activating any dead pocket or leftover space in the city.

-Massing strategy was to achieve voids within the mass which would make the section extremely porous but yet look dense. -Events, activities and programs attract a range of users into public spaces. Idea was to integrate this in this space in order to activate it.

SITE- KALA NAGA, BANDRA ,EAST Due to the advancement in technology, upcoming entrepreneurship and networking the current working conditions are changin. With a site like BKC- which is a commercial setup, it acts as a great influx point for budding entrepreneurs and upcoming businesses. Hence the idea was to build a LIVE-WORK-COMMUNITY with gradients of social exchange and heirarchyof work environments which in turn facilitates a better sustainable living. KALA GHODA ARTS FESTIVAL 2020 Team YOUnited: Kirat Kohli, Param Gala, Shruti Patel, Shivani Bakhru, Arya Gupta, Mitakshara Chaudhary, Paridhi Agarwala, Jasnain Kharbanda This unity and inclusiveness is defined by us, how we perceive others, how much we wish to interact or accept, or include, or be part of the multifarious cultures and experiences present around us. Here people can interact with this installation, where they can manually change the aperture size of each module, making them responsible for aesthetic of the installation that represents unity and inclusiveness metaphorically, and the size of the aperture, because of which they can physically control the interaction from within the installation, and the outside, thus manipulating its inclusiveness.
FOAID 2017 Team DOMINANCE: Kirat Kohli, Shruti Patel, Shivani Bakhru, Arya Gupta, Janvi GOLD WINNER Taking the idea of ‘Expression of Power’ and ‘Expression of Unity’ we have created a physical form wherein the single largest central unit, when opened (expressing its power) causes it surrounding units to all close together. Triggering one smaller unit to open, does not affect the larger unit to close, but when all the surrounding smaller units, are triggered into opening together, the larger unit is forced to shut.
