Spaces for Opportunities to CONNECT-EXCHANGE-INTERACT My research revolves around the idea of multifunctional public spaces as thoroughfares and not as separate entities in the urban fabric. It talks about the informalities and public life existing in shared spaces, everyday spaces and in-betweens, which enables social interaction. These In-betweens act as undefined public realms that are flexible, adaptable and temporary in nature. They can act as a connector to multiple functions giving rise to new communities which help in transforming and activating any dead pocket or leftover space in the city. 5

CONCEPT Transit oriented development is a place of integration of activities, buildings and public space together with a mode of transit near it. For me these places are more like hubs that allow a lot of people to come in and use it as a place to pause before they lead to their destination. These spaces have to be more interactive where the people coming from a busy journey can also have social spaces. In the existing area there no open recreational spaces which is needed. There is direct in and out movement from the station. There is no sense of connectivity with the site and no pause moments. The edge condition does not allow for any kind of interchange and interaction. There is no visual connectivity with the inside as well. The existing site is very dense and lacks places of accumulation. With the upcoming metro, the footfall is going to increase drastically. Since the site lies between the Bandra railway station and the upcoming metro station, the transient population will increase. Therefore influx points will increase. So there is a need for open gathering public spaces and to enhance the experience of the user passing through the site. I intend to open up the edge by making it more porous and inviting. The pedestrian movement will be pushed inwards making the vehicular road congestion free. Creation of plazas at different levels can act as accumulation points. This public plaza will act as core and branch out to other zones proposed on site giving the user a seamless experience.

Work
Negotiation/ Appropriation
Due to the advancement in technology, upcoming entrepreneurship and networking the current working conditions are changin. With a site like BKC- which is a commercial setup, it acts as a great influx point for budding entrepreneurs and upcoming businesses. Hence the idea was to build a LIVE-WORK-COMMUNITY with gradients of social exchange and heirarchyof work environments which in turn facilitates a better sustainable living. The coexistence of all these three create interdependencies and help each other to sustain and enhance the quality of living environment. The design is flexible in terms of living and working conditions and adaptable to future needs.

The existing market, consists of a wide range of products sold, everyday, to thousands of commuters crossing the site. The current market is defined by the interface of the market and its user experience. The meaning of interface in this context means the way a user interacts with the commodity, person or context. These commodities provide us with a tangible/intangible, visual and/or physical experience of the market.

At a macro scale, the easy of connectivity and the flow of people for various modes of transport has been taken into consideration. Within the site, the formal market is more elaborate, consisting of permanent stores with digital interfaces. The skin engages multiple senses of the user, giving a wholesome experience. Whereas, the informal market comprises of pockets/plazas for selling products in a mobile fashion as well as for public gatherings. The green spaces act as a breather for the users, to pause from their hustling routine. 25

IN THE LOOP 2020 Competition The Master Studio 2020 by Archmello Team Members: Kirat Kohli, Param Gala, Shruti Patel. Brief: Institution for architecture students and professionals. Site: Banglore, India Concept: Due to the lack of knowledge in academics, the students are not aware of the actual design problems and situations in the real world. Keeping this in mind, we have designed a multipurpose, co-working space where students and professionals work and learn through each others experiences. For us, learning is not only subjected to formal education but also takes place in informal spaces. These informal spaces are our everyday spaces where all the wisdom and knowledge is shared. The idea was to design a shared space where this exchange could take place. We began with studying the site context and formed a zoning plan based on the the sun orientation and the functions. Since our concept was based on informal spaces, we first started defining these informal spaces like corridors, vertical links, terraces, workshops etc. and used them as links to connect different functions in our structure. Based on the brief, we planned a G+6 structure and designed more than half the site as open public space. The groundfloor is extremely public with all the informal and pop up activities. It starts getting private as we go further up with the links being the informal source of learning. The faรงade is a tessellated skin that comprises of sustainable features like green plants and terraces and solar panels.

FOAID 2017 Team DOMINANCE
Team Members: Kirat Kohli, Shruti Patel, Shivani Bakhru, Arya Gupta, Janvi Paun Taking the idea of ‘Expression of Power’ and ‘Expression of Unity’ we have created a physical form wherein the single largest central unit, when opened (expressing its power) causes it surrounding units to all close together. Triggering one smaller unit to open, does not affect the larger unit to close, but when all the surrounding smaller units, are triggered into opening together, the larger unit is forced to shut.

KALA GHODA ARTS FESTIVAL 2020 Team YOUnited
Team Members: Kirat Kohli, Param Gala, Shruti Patel, Shivani Bakhru, Arya Gupta, Mitakshara Chaudhary, Paridhi Agarwala, Jasnain Kharbanda This unity and inclusiveness is defined by us, how we perceive others, how much we wish to interact or accept, or include, or be part of the multifarious cultures and experiences present around us. This installation aims to display the idea of how we are responsible for the unity and inclusiveness in our society. Here people can interact with this installation, where they can manually change the aperture size of each module, making them responsible for aesthetic of the installation that represents unity and inclusiveness metaphorically, and the size of the aperture, because of which they can physically control the interaction from within the installation, and the outside, thus manipulating its inclusiveness.

Exchange in Gill Filaments of a Bony Fish Each gill filament consists of lamellae, which takes part in the exchange of gases i.e oxygen and carbon dioxide. The water containing rich oxygen and the deoxygenated blood flow in opposite directions which causes the countercurrent flow. Countercurrent flow increases the absorption rate of oxygen from water to the blood. The water flowing through the water channels keeps the lamellae upright. In the absence of water the lamellae tend to bend and deform. The pillar cells help to modulate the movement of lamellae.
