Creating the Texture
Picking a texture

Kravet.com is great resource for textile patterns. Most textures are already tiled to repeat. However it’s good to check the seams to make sure there are no visible lines where the pattern repeats.

1. First you must remove any excess border on the image. In Photoshop you can use the rectangular marque tool and select just the area of the pattern in the image. Next, select Image > Crop.

2. You can test the texture by duplicating it on top and bottom and left and right. First, make a copy of the layer by selecting the layer and right click > duplicate layer... You must increase the image canvas size to test the tile. Select Image > Canvas Size... Select relative check box. Change to percentage and type in 200% for the width and the height. You can now duplicate the layer with the texture and move it to the top or bottom and sides to see if there are any seams. 3. If there are any seams, you can flatten the layers by selecting Layer > Merge Visible. You can paint out the seams by using the Spot Healing Brush. When finished, crop the fixed tiled texture and save it as a new texture.
Mapping the Texture
Making texture planes

1. In Sketchup, create a plane by using the rectangle tool. Click and drag to create. Next, select File > Import... Choose “All Supported Image Types.” Next select “Use as texture” radial button. Find your tiled texture and open. Click and drag over the plane you just created to fill the plane with this texture image.

2. We must project this image to make it map to any complex or curved surface typical for drapes or cushions. Right click on top of the plane with the texture and select Texture > Projected. 3. Find a piece of furniture to test your texture map from Sketchup 3D Warehouse. File > 3D Warehouse > Get Models... Import a model and place it. Sides
4. Look at your furniture model. You must duplicate the projected texture image plane and rotate it to match the angle of each object or face you wish to map it to. Make copies by using the move tool and clicking and dragging to move while holding “Ctrl.” Use the rotate tool to rotate the plane to the appropriate angle

Assigning the textures

1. Select the paint bucket. This will open the materials window. Select the eye dropper. Now select a texture plane to sample the texture.

2. Click faces or objects to assign the texture to. You may need to double click the object in selection mode first to access individual faces. You must use the eye dropper to select a texture plane that coordinates to the face you would like to assign it to for the texture to appear appropriately. 3. The finished, textured, example by using the eye dropper to pick texture planes and assigning them to appropriate faces.

4. Once you have applied your pattern to the furniture, you can decide to change the size of the pattern in the material window. At this point you should refer to the specifications of this material to determine the repeat height and width.
