Thanks to you, UND senior Tara Mertz, a Presidential Scholar and communication major, can say, “I am an endowed scholar! Because of your commitment to student education, UND is able to award scholarships to more than 2,100 students every year. When you support an existing endowment or fund a new one, you will provide even more students with the financial support they need to receive a UND education. What could be better?

ALUMNI NEWS
Dear Alumni and Friends, This is a letter from me and Nate Rivinius, both UND alumni. I am a 2001 graduate and Nate graduated in 2003. Nate was in the Air Force ROTC program in Grand Forks after graduation, and began his career training to be a WSO (Weapons System Officer) in the F-15E Strike Eagle, the world’s greatest fighter. After training he ended up being assigned to the 335th Fighter Squadron, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, North Carolina. I entered the Air Force through Officer Training School and after pilot training, was given a pilot slot in the F-15E. I, too, was assigned to the 335FS “Chiefs”.
We just recently got back from a deployment flying in Southeast Asia, where
we made sure to keep up on our Fighting Sioux news. We even had a hockey tournament bracket posted up in the squadron for all to see and had many others interested in the Frozen Four. While Nate and I didn't know each other in school, we have become good friends since being stationed together. Our squadron puts the name of one pilot and one WSO on each jet and we have managed to get our names on the same jet ... a Fighting Sioux Jet. We also made sure to spread the Fighting Sioux spirit throughout the world by flying the Fighting Sioux flag over multiple countries during our combat sorties and on our redeployment home. The flag has proudly been flown over Afghanistan, Pakistan, UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Italy, Spain, and Portugal. Here is a picture from our flight back from deployment, where both Nate and I are flying together.
This is just an example of how small this world is and how far UND pride
extends! Capt. J. Domenic ‘Chronic’ Easton, ’01

JLG Architects Receives State Design Award for Hopper-Danley Memorial Chapel At the American Institute of Architects (AIA) North Dakota Awards Gala in Bismarck, JLG Architects of Grand Forks received a Merit Award for their work on the University of North Dakota’s HopperDanley Memorial Chapel, among several other awards. The awards were “presented for distinguished accomplishments in design and the profession of architecture.” The Hopper-Danley Memorial Chapel is located in the heart of UND’s campus. Its purpose is to serve as an interfaith chapel for the student body and staff of UND. With its iconic massing and simple detailing, the Chapel strives to evoke the memories and references of our faith roots while providing an unbiased atmosphere that is welcoming to all. The siting of the Chapel complements the adjacent Memorial Wall and outdoor dedication space, and together, they create a serene and peaceful environment where students and staff may find the privacy to rest and reflect within the surrounds of campus life. The Chapel was financially possible through a gift from Elnora (Hopper) Danley, ’37, in support of UND through the UND Foundation.
