British Cycling needs new Ride Leaders to help run Sky Ride Local guided bike rides in Swindon Do you love recreational cycling? Do you want to help get your local community on a bike? Become a British Cycling Ride Leader and lead group bike rides in your local area. Plus you’ll receive a British Cycling qualification. The Sky Ride Local programme offers free guided bike rides for the community, on routes planned by local people. We are looking for confident recreational cyclists to train as Ride Leaders and Route Planners. You need to have some experience of and be confident cycling in a group and have a good level of cycling fitness. There’s no need to be an expert or competitive racer, we welcome all kind of cyclists as long as they’re happy to support beginner bike riders and families. A British Cycling Ride Leader is a friendly, confident, chatty individual who love’s encouraging others to cycle and is happy to work as part of a team. The assessed one-day course qualifies you to deliver guided bike rides for groups of beginner and intermediate level adults and accompanied children on roads and cycle paths. A smaller number of qualified Ride Leaders can then go on to take the additional Route Planner training course. In addition to free training, we’ll provide you with branded kit, British Cycling Ride membership, payment for leading and assisting on rides; plus plenty of other goodies. In return, we expect our Ride Leaders to be flexible with their weekend availability throughout the year and commit to lead rides on no less than four weekends during 2014. We always welcome Ride Leaders to do more and encourage them to use their British Cycling qualification to run informal social rides in the community at other times. On the Sky Ride Local programme our Ride Leaders work as one of a team, leading together on a set route, at a set time that is specified by British Cycling. The majority of these rides take place on Sunday’s through the spring and summer months. By undertaking the Ride Leader training and receiving the qualification, you are committing yourself to being available to lead Sky Ride Local guided bike rides in and from Swindon.
