Sport Maker Katie makes sport happen in Wiltshire. The Olympics, Wimbledon, Tour de France…all such amazing athletes and events which I love to watch and feel a part of, but these events are huge and they do not affect my everyday life. I love to exercise, participate in sports and be active but like most people I am a normal person with a full time a job, friends, family and a social life. I have been volunteering as a Sport Maker for the last few weeks and I have been working out ways to combine everyday life with a life that included exercise – and what did I find out?...ITS EASY! Being a Sport Maker does exactly that – it helps to make sport happen. I work in a small office in the countryside and I bought a £5 skipping rope and took it to work with me, in no time at all me and my colleagues were having competitive skipping competitions! (so competitive in fact we were once late for a meeting!!) Small things like this really make a difference, it not only got us outside the office at lunchtime and did some exercise but we also had great fun! It’s so easy gathering a group of friends together to play all sorts of fun games and activities like volleyball, football, rounders, touch rugby and you don’t need lots of expensive equipment – just think outside the box, get people together, run around and have fun! That’s what I do and I love it!
