D&AD (Pentagram) - The Typographic Circle Brief Design a series of special books/publications on specific people who have given talks for The Circle, as a supplement to it’s magazine ‘Circular’. Background / Considerations The typographic Circle has existed since 1970 when it was started as the Type Directors Club of London. Its aim is to promote all aspects of typographic excellence & experimentation without prejudice. The Circle is also a social organisation which is a very important aspect to its success. There are no criteria to become a member, only an interest in typography. The Circle has achieved much of this success by hosting regular talks featuring a huge cross-section of practitioners from the world of typography, design & advertising. In addition a magazine has been published once a year to help promote see events, called ‘Circular’. Mandatory Requirements Deliverables - Must include the Circle’s logo on the - 3 special books/publications on 3 cover. designers/writers/typographers with 1 - Can be any size or format but should cover and 4 spreads on each individual work as a series. - could also translate across into a - Must feature three people who have digital version previously given talks at The Circle. - The style must not be a copy or - for competition entry - upload images pastiche of the designers being of work (PDF) to D&AD website and featured, but should be a distinct and can also post physical copies. original typographic solution that would sit well with the other material the Circle has produced. Target Audience Tone of Voice - Members of The Circle - Informative - People with an interest in typography - Promotive - People interested in the events held by The Circle, and those who have previously attended them.
