DEAR COMMUNITY,

COMMUNITY

공동체

Welcome back to Term 2 and our first Academic Bulletin. I trust the holiday period has been restful and that your children have come back refreshed. Students at Year 12 and 13 have examinations and many I know have been putting in hard work over the break. The term theme is Community (one of the KISC values), with the term verses, Romans 12: 4, 5, being chosen as the illustrative text. When Paul wrote this epistle, it was to a church deeply embedded in the pagan world, and he was reminding those living then, and ourselves today, how we should live. As it was with love last term, the staff will again challenge both students and staff with their assembly devotions on this theme.

COMUNIDAD

“For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others”.

An important aspect of learning at KISC is the recognition that it is not restricted to the physical classroom alone, but significant learning takes place in the outdoors. Activity week not only reminds us of this but encourages the development of skills and the confidence to deal with the unknown. It also provides the opportunity to reflect and understand the importance of solitude whilst living in community. It encourages learning, not about acquiring knowledge, but a deeper knowledge and level of understanding of one’s self and others. This helps develop the inner spiritual resources and personal skills that lead to a more engaged life. Temporary trials and challenges can be a powerful influence in a student’s development. We are privileged to live alongside the world’s greatest mountain range and to be able to take advantage of these extraordinary surroundings. There is again much happening this term that we can anticipate (see the academic calendar) and I look forward to meeting more of you over the term.
