PARENT INFORMATION EVENING RECAP Parent Information Evening on 22 August was a great time of teachers and parents getting to know each other to set a solid foundation for the coming school year. Huge thanks to the parents for attending this important meeting! One of the evening’s “Million Dollar Questions” reminded us all of the 60 minutes of daily exercise needed for students to be physically healthy. PE classes, break and lunchtime recess only fill part of that need. Please make sure your children are choosing some type of physical activity after school Parents work on a group activity. and on weekends. They are much more likely to develop healthy habits if they see this demonstrated by those around them. So parents, take time to invest in your child’s life by exercising with them. You will not only receive the benefits of a healthier body, but a stronger relationship with your child!
SPORTS CORNER KISC students work hard, not only in the classroom, but in sports venues as well. See what our athletes have been doing recently: • Himalayan International Model School (HIMS) swim competition • Tennis competition - Yeoram Lee • The boys volleyball club is participating in weekly competitions in the new Nepal International School Sports Association (NISSA) league games. • The boys basketball team participated in a friendly game with Wilson last week. They will also be in the Valley View Tournament next week.

Congratulations to Yeoram Lee for winning silver medal in Little Angels tennis tournament. Yeoram was the only KISC student to participate in the 6th Little Angels/ JTI Interschool Junior Open Tennis Championship-2012 held at the Little Angels Tennis Complex and the Satobato Tennis Complex from Aug. 27-Sept. 1, 2012. He received second place/silver medal in the U-16 (16 years and under) Boys’ Singles. Ivanhoe, the opponent at his final match, is from The British School. Both Yeoram and Ivanhoe were awarded by Mrs. Jyoti Rana, one of the Nepal Olympic Committee members and the vice-president of Nepal Lawn Tennis Association. KISC’s name was highlighted through his games during the tournament. So, let’s celebrate it together so that our joy can Yeoram Lee be multiplied!

Gopal Sebastian, a KISC parent concerned with the role of fathers in today’s world, writes:
“I have been disturbed in my spirit over the last academic year (and especially so over the last few months) over the need for me as a father to influence my boys positively and actively. I do struggle with my fatherhood. In my personal reflection, I realized that my primary vocation and calling is to be a good father to my 3 sons, my primary role is to reflect the image of our heavenly Father to them in a tangible manner. What an awesome task! To add to that, it is a task given for my life time to accomplish! I do believe that I am not the only one given this awesome and heavy (yet blessed) task. We, as fathers, are called to be models, to protect and to disciple our little ones. I am sure that I am not the only one struggling to be a good dad. Therefore, I feel that it would be great if some likeminded fathers could come together and walk through this journey together. I definitely need this support and encouragement (especially so in Nepal). It can be lonely at times in this journey as a father, husband and worker of the LORD. We need each other to grow, to play and to uphold. We’ve got to be not just good dads. We’ve got to be great dads, because our Father is Great Dad to us and to our kids. It is our awesome calling to reflect this image to our kids. I do pray that in this, we could impact the school and our community.”
Are you a father who wants to link up with other fathers and the Heavenly Father? Feel free to respond to Gopal Sebastian at gsebastg@gmail.com. Warm greetings from the PTA Astrid Smith

STUDENT CORNER KISC STUDENTS ARE SUPER READERS Thirty-six primary students participated in the Summer Reading Program. Among these, 12 students read 40 or more books. Some of these books were more than 400 pages long! Congratulations go to YeDo Yi of Yr. 3, who read 114 books and drew a picture about each one. WOW! Primary students gather each Friday afternoon for Reading Buddies, where older students read to younger students. There is a happy “buzz” of reading activity in the courtyard as pairs and trios sit together and enjoy books. Primary students read at the library.
One Korean student reads the books to her younger partner, first in English, then translates it into Korean, saying, “That way he will understand it all!” Secondary students are participating in an “Extreme Reading Competition” organized by Miss Truscott . Every six months, prizes will be awarded to the junior and senior students who have read the most books from the recommended reading list which is posted in the library. In addition, students, staff and Reading buddies parents are encouraged to submit a photo of themselves reading in an extreme situation - from surrounded by bubble bath foam to climbing a glacier while reading. Be a daring reader! Details of this competition are on an Info Sheet in the Library.

PRAYER REQUESTS • We thank God for the many gifts, talents and abilities God has given to each of our community. • Let's remember the staff and students who are currently working hard rehearsing for the Pirates of Penzance production. Pray that they would continually be renewed, that they would not grow weary, for unity and good communication, continued creativity, that all the practicalities and logistics would run smoothly, for excitement and enthusiasm. • Similarly, we remember the KISC Swim Team, their frequent training sessions and competitions that lie ahead. Many of whom are also in the play. Ask that God would refresh them. That they would be united as a team and continue to strive to encouraged and build up one another. • With all the extracurricular activities this term, pray that students and staff alike, would be wise in how they manage their time and that all would be able to keep on top of their academic and workloads. • We ask for protection and safety for all our staff and families. A number of our students have had injuries during this term, pray that their bodies would soon heal and mend. • We continue to ask God for more room and outdoor play space for KISC in order to enhance the teaching / learning environment for our students and staff. We are thankful for His faithfulness and provision all the time, but may He provide a way. • KISC really does need a Year 2 teacher to cover from next term. Pray that the Holy Spirit would prompt and stir the right person who that job is for and that all the practical arranging that needs to be done would be problem free and swift! • Let us continue to remember our CEO, Judith Ellis, who is on home leave in the UK. May this be a time when God really speaks, challenges, stretches and refreshes her. That as she visits many churches in the UK she would be aware of the Holy Spirit speaking through her. May she have "divine appointments" that are a challenge and encouragement to her but that she also would bring challenge and encouragement. • Remember and lift up our new staff and families, many of who are new to Nepal. Pray that they would manage all the transitions, language and some of the frustrations that happen at times. May we be a channel in which we can come alongside, bring encouragement and support when and where they need it.
