ZUALA CUP Saturday, March 29, 2014 8:30 am - 1:30pm KISC Recreation Grounds
Zuala, a KISC student, was a very enthusiastic person who loved life and basketball. He was killed in an accident in 2001. He was 12. The entire school grieved his untimely death. The Zuala Cup, an inter-house basketball tournament, was established a year later, to honor and celebrate his life and love for the sport. Over the years, the tournament has become a KISC community event, where people gather to celebrate and honor the lives of those who are no longer with us.
Come and enjoy the company of the KISC community while cheering for your favorite house team!

TEACHERS, GUIDES AND HELPING HANDS
We, at KISC, have an amazing band of 10 Primary Teaching Assistants. They work in class alongside the class teachers supporting and encouraging children’s learning. They come with a variety of experiences and qualifications which enrich our student’s lives. Even though many are very qualified, they have still chosen to work at KISC because they enjoy working and gaining experience here. Many balance working here and studying for their bachelor’s degree, while others are waiting for the TEC to open so that they can gain their teaching qualifications through that TERM 3 VALUE: means. During this past year, the TAs have been working on preparing a 15 minute teaching lesson to AMOR do during our monthly TA meetings.

INTER-HOUSE MUSIC FESTIVAL
The 8th annual Inter-House Music Festival on 26 February lived up to its expectations of an entertaining afternoon for the audience. Each house worked diligently to produce a set song, a dance, an instrumental item and an improvisational song. The creative spirit and musical talent of our students and the hours of work put into each category were clearly evident. Leaders emerged in each house and house spirit was fantastic. While our four adjudicators retired to discuss their choice, the Primary School delighted us with their knowledge of Beethoven and Mozart, followed by a piano performance by IGSCE student, Ye Gwon Yi. A huge congratulations to all but especially to Annapurna House, the winners of the coveted treble clef trophy and chocolate cake.
MARDI GRAS
French students had an amazing time celebrating the festival of Mardi Gras by competing in making waffles, creating masks, hats and wool snowmen, and face-painting. All the groups did an amazing job and showed remarkable creativity.

After we ground them, we added some more ethanol to create a liquid, and then went on to pour different acid, neutral and alkali solutions into different test tubes. We added the indicator solution into the test tubes and waited a few seconds for the colour to change. Pink, red and orange petals were the best indicators, whereas yellow was useless, since it didn’t change colour at all.
SCIENCE IS FUN!
Whilst year 10 geographers were missing, the rest of year 10 chemistry (i.e. 5 people) made indicators out of plants that we stole from school. Thank you Janak Dai, for not catching us, since we stole petals from you. We tested yellow, red, pale pink, purple, orange and white flower petals and an onion. We took the petals and ground them with sand in ethanol, which is a fancy word for alcohol.

JANADEEP SCHOOL IN PALPA GOT WATER The Youth Fellowship of Tarbert, from the Isle of Harris, Scotland, funded the building of the water tank in coordination with KISC EQUIP in one of our partner government schools - Shree Janadeep Lower Secondary school in Palpa. The school community also contributed towards the project. In addition, the Youth Fellowship donated Rs. 10,000 towards electrical wiring of the newly built classrooms. The opening and handover ceremony were organized on 2 March 2014. A Resource Person from the District Education Office Palpa was invited as a Chief Guest. The Director of EQUIP attended the ceremony on behalf of EQUIP. It was a great celebration which was attended by the students, teachers, parents, and respected community leaders. The school now has access to drinking water as well as water for the toilets. A few households nearby school will also have access to water which will save them an hour walk to fetch the water.
UPDATE REGARDING THE RECREATION GROUNDS The LORD has, once again, blessed KISC! We are so grateful for all your prayers regarding the sports facilities. Sher Gurung, KISC’s Administrative Staff Manager and Angus Douglas, KISC’s Project Development Manager met with the landlords of the site on Monday, March 24. They were advised that the notice to vacate has been withdrawn. The landlords and foreign investors need time to finalise their contract, the design of the building as well as to get the necessary consents from the Municipality. The landlord believes all of it should be sorted by January/February 2015. At least until then, the KISC community will continue to enjoy these amazing facilities the LORD has blessed us with. We thank God for the good news and continue to pray for the situation. We thank you for your prayers.
Futsal pitch key handover
We have decided to move ahead with sharing the facility and blessing the community. Fliers and posters were created to hand out and inform the community of the availability of the grounds for rent. Renting is also available to the whole KISC community at the price of 1,200 NPR/hr.

PARENTS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAYS On March 4th, The KISC teaching staff participated in a Professional Development Day as part of the commencement of the yearlong Professional Development program. Teachers took turns facilitating one of ten different sessions. These sessions were attended by peers during the day and focused on educational topics like assessment, MVVP, technology, understanding worldview, and leadership. New ideas and skill sets were shared and discussed, throughout the day, with the hope that these discussions would continue as teachers strive to develop professionally and improve student learning. A huge thanks to all who participated and may we always continue to learn more about our profession and model being life-long learners. (cont. from page 1)
We have been each other’s students and have learned lessons from across the primary range. The TAs have had ongoing professional development in handwriting, phonics, SEN and classroom management. Also the TAs have been involved in clubs, either leading or helping with the different after-school activities. Teamwork is promoted at KISC and it has been a privilege to visit each classroom to observe the Teaching Assistants at work sharing with and supporting the class teacher with the children’s learning across the curriculum. Watching them come alongside and support students in a variety of ways, academically as well as spiritually and emotionally, is inspiring. They manage to encourage and question, explain and refocus, hand out and collect work, sharpen pencils and mop up spills, and do many, many other tasks, sometimes simultaneously and all with a servants’ heart. They live the values promoted here at KISC by pouring out love and grace in abundance, seeking that justice is dealt with as appropriate, and excellence shown by example. We are thankful and grateful to God for the blessing that our Teaching Assistants are to the KISC community. Maureen Richards, Primary Student Support

GOOD LUCK
SMCschool management committee
A number of KISC students are currently taking CIE External Art and Speaking exams. Please keep them in your prayers as they are completing this huge step in their education.
Many thanks to the PTA for hosting the Parent Open Forum last week. Even though we did not have time to answer all the questions that were presented, we are grateful for your input and want to address the concerns raised in a way that glorifies the Lord. We are not perfect, so we ask for your prayers and patience with us. The SMC has met a number of times since the Open Forum. Please be in prayer for us as we seek the Lord for a way forward that would be best for the students and the community as a whole. We understand that trust has been lost in the SMC and leadership and we are truly sorry for that. We pray that the decisions we are currently making will help rebuild that trust.
