GET WELL SOON! To Mr. Tirtha B. Thapa, Executive Director HDCS Read about how we are living out the KISC Community on Pg. 2.
The KISC Community is praying for your speedy recovery.
HIMS SWIM MEET UPDATE Congratulations to the KISC swim team for a great participation in the Sixth Annual HIMS Swimming Championship, especially to Grace Im for winning silver medal in freestyle and bronze medal in butterfly and breaststroke and the boys freestyle relay team (Joseph Im, Joseph Boehm, Daniel Boehm and Ole Johan Gullbra) for winning bronze medal in the freestyle relay.
LIVING OUT THE KISC COMMUNITY This term the main emphasis in assemblies and around the school has been the value of Community and how KISC can become a true spiritual community by having unity, love and joy among us. For us to live in love, unity and joy is impossible - but with God all things are possible. Editor’s note: Thank you to KISC students Daniel Geiss, Syerin Kang, Himashu Tripathi and Himal Sharma for conducting some of the interviews. When we are living out community, we experience joy. We are not perfect, but there is good evidence of community at KISC. What brings me joy at KISC? • the incredible people I have the privilege of working with. They see my faults and weaknesses and love me despite them. They see in me the potential of what I can become and bring out the best in me. • children loving learning. • hearing staff pray for their students out of genuine concern for them and wanting the best for them. • working with SMC members who give their time, energy and talents to help KISC be excellent. • witnessing God’s answers to prayer: provision of staff, just the right staff arriving at just the right time; healing in our community, protection, and too many other answers to list here. • the sound of laughter (especially Bidurji in accounts because his laugh is infectious and travels throughout the entire admin building). • seeing the community come together to care for and love those who are ill, injured or struggling (or all three!). • praying together as an SMC to seek God’s wisdom and solutions, not just depending on what the world or logic tells us. • that my weaknesses allow others to use their strengths, and that’s great. • watching primary students worship God with no inhibitions. • seeing students and staff love and care for one another. (Selah, pause and think on this.) What brings you joy? --- Marcy Knoble, SMC Chairperson
JESUS’ PRAYER FOR US And now I am coming to You; I say these things while I am still in the world, so that My joy may be made full and complete and perfect in them that they may experience My delight fulfilled in them, that My enjoyment may be perfected in their own souls, that they may have My gladness within them, filling their hearts.
JOHN 17:13 (AMPLIFIED)
“At KISC I get to experience different cultures, which helps me to have a broader perspective of the world. It makes you a better thinker.” --- Amelia Vuite, Yr 3 TA
“KISC is a great place for spiritual growth. I feel more supported here than all the other places I have worked at.” --- Emma Mulepati, HOF Language & French Teacher As part of the focus on ‘Community’ this term, the Art Department has been working in partnership with artists whose work impacts different communities in Nepal. Lisa Perry, who has been working in Nepal for a number of years and also at Bethel Church in Redding, California, led sessions on prophetic art using a method of blindfold painting with the IGCSE and AS Level students from years 10, 11 and 12. Students and staff considered Prophetic art with Lisa Perry how God sees our creativity and then discovered new ways to use their gifts. These gifts opened up new visions for themselves and for others. Kabina Shrestha, who recently completed two of the large wall murals in Kathmandu, was an interesting role model for the IGCSE students. Her dedication to art besides her day to day work in the finance department at INF Nepal is noteworthy. Ali Wilkinson, who also works at INF Nepal, shared about her work as a graphic designer and specifically how she uses photography to communicate ideas and messages.

CHARACTER FIRST: INITIATIVE Year 12 and 13 have been investigating initiative as part of their PSHE coursework this term. Taking initiative can look like: • I will do the right thing before I am asked. • I will contribute to the success of the team. • I will do things today rather than putting them off until tomorrow. Initiative and leadership skills will be very important to year 12 and 13 students when they go on activity week as student leaders. Currently we are working on preparing for these roles.
PTA NOTES The KISC PTA has been involved in many activities, including the inter school PTA meeting. The meeting is held three times a year to encourage good relationships between the international schools in Kathmandu. The annual inter school music festival was a result of these meetings. The next inter school PTA meeting will be held at KISC 5 pm Tuesday 12 November. Please plan to attend. The PTA has also been planning about playgrounds, saving projects and class socials. We have been receiving your inputs through our reps and greatly value them. Thank you for contacting your PTA reps. We will attach a list of PTA reps, with their photos and bios, in the next newsletter. Until then, we will do our best to get to know you. Please feel free to come and find us to make that job easy! Each Monday morning from 8 to 9, the PTA prays for the school and on other prayer points we receive. Please join us in the prayer room, which is located behind the girls bathroom and the maintenance office. If you have specific prayer requests, please send them to Bethany Arneson at arneson.nepal@gmail.com. We are happy to pray for you.

Thank you to everyone for promoting this kingdom work during your home visits. Mr. Nagendra Raj Regmi, Assistant District Education Officer of Lamjung, recently visited KISC. He thoroughly enjoyed his visit and was very impressed with the well decorated primary classrooms. He also appreciated the opportunity to interact with EQUIP team and some KISC teachers. KISC EQUIP is grateful for all the support and cooperation received from Mr. Regmi and other officials from the District Education Office Lamjung over the years. We also had a very positive meeting with the Foresight International team, who supports our partner school in Trishuli. They appreciated EQUIP’s work towards the development of the school over the years. We have been requested to continue the partnership.
UPCOMING VISIT EQUIP team is visiting Tansen from 12-20 September. The visit will include follow up of first phase training, parent workshops as well as math and science training. In addition, EQUIP teacher trainer Annie Brown will introduce creative and critical thinking training. Please pray for the team’s safe travel to and from Tansen and that we are able to serve the Tansen communities well during the visit.
What our partners say... Samaritan’s Purse Canada has been working with KISC EQUIP since July 2007 to improve the quality of education for children in Nepal. I have been consistently impressed with the outcomes of these projects. Our investment has been relatively small but the impact on the quality of teaching methods, classroom learning environments and parental involvement have all exceed our expectations. I have observed that the work of KISC EQUIP is having a far reaching influence on curriculum and pedagogy in Nepal. This is a testimony to the professionalism and dedication of the KISC EQUIP staff. Bruce Piercey Regional Director Eurasia Samaritan's Purse Canada
