TERM 2, ISSUE 1 24 OCTOBER 2013
PRAISE THE LORD OUR PROVIDER! More than five years of prayers was answered on Monday, October 21, when the KISC community celebrated the opening of a new sports facility. The site, located adjacent to the KISC site, currently consists of a basketball court, parking space and a design and technology room with a workshop for the maintenance team. A play/football field will be added later. We are very thankful to God for providing us with the much needed space for our growing community and ensuring the safety of our construction team throughout the project.

EXCELLENCE
This term the main emphasis in assemblies and around the school will be on EXCELLENCE. Excellence is recognizing who we are and what we can do best for His glory. Together, let us encourage one another to bring honour and glory to God.
HOW DO WE HONOUR AND GLORIFY GOD? 2 Cor 3 v 18
2 Cor 4 v 4-7
Romans 15 v 7
2 Cor 1 v 20
We are made in His image and pre designed to be imitators of Christ. Thus, when we reflect Him we bring honour and glory to Him i.e., when we operate in the fruits of the Holy Spirit. Let us affirm each other as we see these fruits displayed. By giving Christ the credit and sharing about Him, we honour and glorify him. When we suffer and still operate in the fruits of the Spirit, that reflects Him and gives Him the honour and glory, as people know it is not humanly possible to be like that, it is Him in you. When we “Welcome and receive, accept to your hearts one another, then, even as Christ has welcomed and received, accepted you, for the glory of God.” Accepting people’s identity and destiny glorifies God. “For as many as are the promises of God, they all find their yes and amen in Christ. For this reason we also utter Amen, so be it, to God through Him to the glory of God.” We glorify God when we act and say so be it to all His promises that are Yes in Christ.
KISC STUDENTS’ MISSION TRIP TO SURKHET Eleven KISC students, three teachers and a support staff drove to Surkhet over the Dashain Holiday to serve others. Please find an update below from Suraj Dahal, one of the parents representatives on the MSA Planning Committee: What do parents need to know about accreditation of KISC by the Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools of the Middle States Association (CESS-MSA)? KISC is an accredited international school by the Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools of the Middle States Association (CESS-MSA), United States of America. This year, KISC is being assessed for renewal of its accreditation as a K - 13 School. The accreditation term will be for 7 years. KISC is being accredited to be a school of Excellence by Design. This whole year, the Planning Committee, with extensive support from the School Management Committee (SMC), KISC Leadership Team (KLT), teachers, staff, students, and parents has prepared a comprehensive and exhaustive self-study on each of the following 12 Standards of MSA accreditation: The Self Study took place from January 2013 to September 2013. Foundational Standards Standards addressing best practices in the components of a school that provide the foundations for quality in the education program, services, and results in terms of student learning. 1. Philosophy/Mission 2. Governance and Leadership 3. School Improvement Planning 4. Finances 5. Facilities 6. School Climate and Organization
Operational Standards Standards addressing best practices in delivering the education program, services, and activities to the students. 7. Health and Safety 8. Educational Program 9. Assessment and Evidence of Student Learning 10. Student Services 11. Student Life and Student Activities 12. Information Resources and Technology
We have prepared and submitted a report with four objectives for future growth and improvement. The SMC and KLT, PTA, Student Council and with the support from KISC community, will be periodically reviewing progress on these objectives. Now, we are ready to host the site visit by MSA Assessment Team, comprising peer-reviewers from other accredited institutions, on 25-28 November. This visiting team will validate our findings of the self-study, suggest improvements, and recommend CESSMSA Board for our accreditation. The final decisions and re-certification will take place in May 2014. The following are our four objectives for the next seven years: Growth and improvement in KISC students' performance: 1. Mission, vision, values and passion statement (MVVP): The students and staff at KISC will show growth in living out the values contained in the MVVP. 2. Assessment: Students at KISC will demonstrate improved ability to monitor and reflect on their learning in order to achieve their academic potential. Growth and improvement in KISC’s operational performance. 3. Recruitment: KISC will improve staffing through prayer, and radical and aggressive recruitment strategies 4. Facilities: KISC will have its own permanent, earthquake resistant, building with the combined capacity of 300 primary and secondary students and an additional 60 Transformational Education College undergraduate students.

FUNDING FOR KISC EQUIP PROJECTS
We are very pleased to announce that we have received a positive response from Samaritan’s Purse Canada regarding funding for our Lamjung project for the next 4 years (2014-18). They are already supporting this year’s project in Lamjung. We also appreciate their partnership with KISC EQUIP for Tansen project since 2007 and which will continue until 2018. We would also like to thank KISC PTA for their kind donation to EQUIP.
KISC TEC
Things are going well towards setting up the Transformational Education College. The first concept paper of TEC has been submitted to Kathmandu University. We have had positive feedback from them. They also visited KISC to inspect our facilities. The plan is to run TEC on KISC site after K-13 school hours. Please pray for the TEC sub committee and curriculum committee as they are working hard to finalize the details.
