GENERAL INFORMATION General Information We regularly receive technical enquiries plus customer questions about how to clean and maintain Franke products, so this section contains answers to some of our most frequent queries. However, whilst much of the information below contains our suggestions for keeping Franke products clean, purchaser’s should always read the manufacturers’ instructions before using any of the cleaning products and processes described here, to ensure that surfaces and materials are protected.

Waste Disposal Units Most Franke sinks can have a waste disposal unit fitted, provided it has a 3.5” (90mm) waste capable of having a waste disposal unit connected. When fitting a waste disposal unit to your multiple bowl sink, the use of Franke’s Spazio Plumbing Kit is recommended to assist with complicated pipe work. Please note: Sinks with the Franke hygienic integrated waste cannot fit a food waste disposer. Special order sinks with standard wastes are available on select models for such instances.

Food Preparation Platters Timber food preparation boards should be regularly maintained using vegetable oil to prolong life and should be dried by being inverted, so as to avoid warping. Franke food preparation platters are supplied from a variety of timbers and, where possible, always sourced from wood from sustainable forests. They are supplied in a variety of timbers such as mahogany, iroko, red heart beech and kambala woods, as well as dishwasher-safe polyethylene (hygenica).

Drainer Baskets Stainless steel wire baskets can be placed in the dishwasher as the stainless material is fully dishwasher-safe.

STAINLESS STEEL Cleaning Franke stainless steel sinks are made from premium-quality stainless steel, which is metallurgically incapable of rusting or corroding under normal household conditions. However, stainless steel can sometimes harbour ferrous (iron-based) particles from the water supply, especially during or immediately after new installations, when pipework has been disturbed. Filings are deposited on the stainless steel sink surface, where they will cling and then rust, unless removed. These marks can be removed with appropriate cleaners, such as the Franke Twister or Franke Inox Creme before the sink is thoroughly rinsed and dried. Use the Franke Twister special sponge and clean the soiled surface, then rinse thoroughly and polish with a moist rag or apply the gentler Franke Inox Creme and polish with a moist rag. The ferrous particles may return unless completely removed, so the sink needs to be dried thoroughly after cleaning - and several applications may be necessary before the rust spots are entirely removed.

Scratching Stainless steel will always scratch, and because of the directional polishing marks on many Franke sinks, scratching may show up quite dramatically initially. However, with regular use and periodic cleaning (using cleaners such as the Franke Twister or Franke Inox Creme), the stainless steel will build up a patina over the years and the scratch marks will become progressively less visible.

Laser-Cut Edge Some of our stainless steel sinks incorporate a Swiss laser-edge flat steel double-edged profile that ensures a smooth hygienic flush-fit to the benchtop. In addition, most Franke insets have a water protection rim to prevent water spilling over the sink edge. All our double laser-edged profile sinks are water-sealed for life with a factory-applied inert polyurethane sealant applied into the channelling on the underside of the edge rim.

FRAGRANITE Cleaning Stubborn stains can be removed with either: - biological washing powder - a concentration of dishwasher powder (sometimes left overnight) - diluted bleach (do not allow to dry on the surface) - Use Jif liquid cleaner and scrub with a scotchbrite pad, then rinse thoroughly and polish with a moist rag.

Take the sink out of the box and rest the sink vertically against your legs with the face of the sink facing outwards, ensuring that the tap hole is for the correct hand drainer. Take care not to damage the edge of the sink in the process. 2. Take a centre-punch and place on the centre of the colour sticker. 3. Strike the punch hard with a hammer. This will result in the core of the tap hole being knocked out. 4. Finish off, using the ball of the hammer and a round file.

Fragranite treated with Sanitised Kitchens can be a critical location for spreading bacteria and demand special attention to hygiene. On unprotected material, bacteria can multiply every 20 minutes and have a negative effect on hygiene. The integrated Sanitized速 hygiene function in Fragranite sinks helps to keep this area clean and provides the sink with lasting protection. It does not replace normal cleaning but helps to keep surfaces free from bacteria. Tests have proven that Fragranite treated with Sanitized速 reduces bacteria and microbe growth by 99%. Bacteria

GENERAL INFORMATION

Sanitized速 helps to keep the sink surface hygienic and protected from bacteria and microbe growth after and in between normal cleaning cycles.

TAPS Fitting Occasionally when taps are fitted, they may require bracing underneath the sink, to strengthen the support. Additionally, extra support can be achieved by battering rigid tails (sometimes available separately) to the cabinet or wall. Supplementary tap support arm shown fitted in position (right), also tap brace option pictured below.

Cleaning Taps should only be cleaned with mild detergent such as washing-up liquid. General cleaners should never be utilised, otherwise the guarantee may be invalid. Use a dry or damp cloth to remove stubborn marks or stains.

CLIPS Some Franke sinks incorporate a unique sliding sink fixing system comprising welded rails along all four undersides of stainless steel sinks. A series of clamps can slide along the welded rail into strategic positions, before being tightly bolted to the underside of the work surface. WASTE BASKET STRAINERS Designer Wastes The Franke hygienic integrated waste is formed as part of the sink bowl, which creates a seamless edge to the basket waste. The rounded-edge design which the basket waste sits into is easy to clean, providing an improved design overall. All Franke designer waste basket strainers are manufactured from stainless steel. A stainless steel bearing is located on the stem, which, when pushed down and located into position, is designed to stop the water flow and, when left in position without sealing, will act as a sieve for foodstuffs. Secondary bowls with 90mm waste outlets will also accommodate designer basket strainer wastes. In the eventuality of water ingress under the flange, this will not leak into the cabinet below, owing to the clever design of the basket waste.

PLUMBING Franke Plumbing Kits Made of rigid grey polypropylene, these plumbing kits are the hygienic solution to a Franke sink waste system. The sink is held in place by S-rails and claws tightened from underneath. Seal with silicon. Some inset sink edges include a factory-fitted integrated sealing strip.

3. EASY FIX Inset sinks with a laser edge are suitable for worktops made of stone or granite. The sinkâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s laser edge creates a visually clean finish. The Easyfix clip is fitted to the sink at the factory. Installing the sink from above is a quick and easy process. Seal with silicone.

Use a silicone that is suitable for the worktop (risk of discolouration on granite worktops).

4. UNDERMOUNT INSTALLATION Installing sinks from underneath the worktop is the most commonly used method in conjunction with granite and stone worktops. The result is an uninterrupted visual appearance. Sinks are sealed with silicone and held in place from underneath by a mounting clamp.
