y husband and I enjoy camping at F.D. Roosevelt state park in Pine Mountain, Georgia, and we never miss taking a drive to Warm Springs for a tasting at the winery. On our last trip, at the end of December 2011, the vines were bare, but the wine was still flowing. Since we were the only visitors at the time, the hostess gave us a tour of the vineyard and the property.

The wines that are produced are White House White, Unfinished Portrait, Lotus Pond White (there is a lotus pond in the front), Kudzu Rose, Tribute, and Old Atlanta Red. All the names have something to do with Georgia and/or Franklin Delano Roosevelt. On occasion, specialty wines, such as peach and blueberry, are produced.

By Nan Jolly-Moore

The White House White is off dry and crisp. Unfinished Portrait, with some Norton grape, is an off dry blush. Lotus Pond White is modestly sweet. Kudzu Rose, a semi-sweet rose, is named after the soon-to-be-declared official invasive plant of Georgia. Tribute, traditionally sweet with a distinctive muscadine aroma, is a salute to grandfathers all over Georgia and their homemade wines. Old Atlanta Red, so named because Warm Springs Winery is the closest winery to Atlanta, is full bodied and sweet.

Each wine has a beautiful label that tells its story.

Blissjunky Mind, Soul & Bodywork Michelle D. Bethune L.M.T. On March 1, downtown Griffin will welcome Blissjunky Mind, Soul, and Bodywork to 129 North Hill Street (in the old Goddard’s building near the Welcome Center.) Blissjunky offers group and individual yoga classes, massage, and group meditation. Owner Michelle Bethune, Licensed Massage Therapist, has built her career around her interest in how the energy of our bodies affects our emotions and physical being. Michelle laughs as she recalls how her business got its name. “I was reading a book on meditation and it said that you shouldn’t meditate too much, otherwise you might become a “bliss junky” and out of touch with reality. I thought, how can you have too much bliss?” Blissjunky was born. Blissjunky’s new location will have an expanded emphasis on yoga, which she defines as “the settling of the mind into silence.” Michelle says, “Yoga is not just something that stretches you out. It’s more spiritual in nature. It’s not about pushing yourself.” Michelle believes that yoga improves one’s connections to other people, leading to improved relationships by increasing compassion, empathy, and gratitude. Group meditation will also be provided at the new location. Blissjunky’s customers can choose from various types of massage to meet their individual needs. Deep tissue massage applies deep pressure to specific areas of tightness. Relaxation massage (“fluff and buff ” as Michelle calls it) is mostly long, smooth, relaxing strokes. Blissjunky’s most popular type of massage is Swedish massage, a combination of relaxation and deep tissue massage. Neuromuscular therapy (NMT) is similar to deep tissue massage, but focuses on active trigger points in the body. Hot Stone massage provides deep muscle relaxation by incorporating warm stones. In Thai massage, the massage therapist stretches the customer out, while Japanese Reiki treatments use gentle hand placements to promote relaxation and a meditative state. “I enjoy what I do,” says Michelle. Chances are, if you visit Blissjunky Mind, Soul, and Bodywork, you’ll enjoy it too. Call or e-mail for an individual appointment time or to get a schedule for group classes.

Gayla Prestage Grubbs After a number of years on the road in jewelry sales, Gayla Grubbs decided that she wanted to work for herself. She had always loved entertaining and cooking, and after catering a rehearsal dinner for a friend, she began a catering business in 1993. Gayla opened Mill Towne Gourmet in 2002, which first specialized in gourmet gift items. Over the years she discovered that more and more of her clients wanted to dine in, and the restaurant part of Mill Towne Gourmet has grown steadily. Mill Towne Gourmet serves homemade soups, salads, sandwiches, and pastries - all made from scratch. Mill Towne continues to provide catering for a variety of occasions. Gayla and her staff strive to create a pleasant dining experience for customers. She wants to have a place where people are drawn, not just for the food, but for the ambiance. The charming interior of the restaurant is welcoming and cozy, and tables on the street provide enjoyable outdoor dining. “I knew from the start I was to be in downtown Griffin,” Gayla says. “I waited for this building.” Gayla is proud of the relationships she and the staff have developed with customers, including a number of regulars.“Customer service is really important to me,” Gayla says. The staff at Mill Towne, including Bobby Thigpen, Penny Wesley, and Callie Ragan, make excellent customer service a daily reality. Even in these difficult times, Mill Towne Gourmet is thriving, with 2011 being the business’s best year yet. Gayla attributes Mill Towne’s success to keeping her priorities in order. “God told me early on that if I made my family a priority he would bless my business, and He has,” she says. The single mom of two teenagers hopes eventually to open the restaurant in the evenings, but that will have to wait until her children are a little older. For Gayla Grubbs and Mill Towne Gourmet, proper priorities are a recipe for success.

By Allison Smyly Roger Green was born in his grandparents' house at Green Valley Dairy Farms in Meansville, Georgia, on Thanksgiving day in 1947. Farming has always been a way of life for him.

Roger and his three brothers helped their dad on the dairy farm most days, rising early to get their chores done before school and working hard after school. In 1990, Roger started his own cattle farm, Evergreen Farms, when he built a home for himself, his wife Kay, and his three daughters on 100 acres, just a mile down the road from the dairy farm. These days, Roger and Kay remain as busy as ever, managing Evergreen Farms, a new poultry operation they began in 2011, and working with two of Roger's brothers to manage Green Valley Dairy Farms. Though farm work can be demanding, Roger and Kay make sure they spend plenty of time with their three daughters and Ă…^M OZIVLKPQTLZMV _PW MVRWa \PM NIZU TQNM \WW :WOMZ IVL Kay are members of Christ Chapel Community Church in

Dear LinkedIn, No. I do not want to become connected with my ex-boss that I absolutely despise. Thank you.

Apathy! People voting against their own interest.

I’m worn out on “amazing” being used to describe things that really aren’t, especially food. It’s the new “awesome.” At this rate, we’re going to run out of words to describe something TRULY amazing or awesome. In the meantime, we need a fresh word. I vote for stupefying. “You gotta try their new chicken sandwich. It’s stupefying.”

Hey MapQuest, I know how to get out of my own neighborhood, could we skip the first 14 directions? t’s been called “The Stonehenge of Americaâ€? and has drawn people from all over the globe with its amazing construction and far-reaching tales of myth and mystery. It beacons travelers through a scenic and serene road trip, photographs almost too easily, and makes for a heck of a story. Perhaps best of all: it’s in Georgia. So why haven’t we all heard about the Georgia Guidestones and what exactly are they? In literal terms, the Guidestones is a hill-top megalithic structure in Elbert County, GA that consists of six precisely-placed granite slabs, each nearly 20 feet tall. The monument was constructed ZLWK WKH Ă€QDQFLDO EDFNLQJ RI D JURXS RI &ROG :DU era Christians who wanted to share a message about the conservation of mankind. Gorgeously etched into the faces of the slabs are characters from eight different languages (among them are Mandarin Chinese, Arabic, Hebrew, and a nearly poetic modern-day English) that all bear the same message. w w w.k it chendr aw er.net

In metaphysical terms, the Guidestones are, to some, sage words about environmental health, the depletion of natural resources, foreign nuisances, homelessness, and more; to others, the stones are, in themselves, the foreign nuisance, with their mysterious symbols that may or may not be satanic, promote a “new world order,â€? and/or be entirely pagan in nature. Regardless of the viewer’s take, and perhaps especially for the sometimes-controversy, the Guidestones are certainly marvelous to behold. They were built in 1980 by a group of mostly anonymous men who wished to be represented by the name “R.C. Christianâ€? (a pseudonym.) The monument’s most vocal theorists link it to the Rosicrucianists – a clandestine society of philosophers with Germanic roots – of the early 17th century.
