The kitesurf spot in Mastichari on Kos offers, in combination with the special and exceptionally professional concept of schooling and constant wind, the perfect conditions to learn kitesurfing or to improve your level. The spot is located directly on a wide sandy beach and offers a 400 meter area for your exclusive entrance. KITEWORLDWIDE KITESURF HOLIDAY PACKAGES ON KOS This is one of the many KiteWorldWide destinations where we offer complete ‘no worry’ packages without hidden costs. The professional VDWS kiteschool operates under German management and has developed a special concept of schooling, which combines the experience and advantages of modern schooling techniques via boat and personal mentoring in small groups of two students max. COURSES After the first lesson on shore with training kites, you will enter the boat and head 800 meters out direction wind. Outside, the kiteinstructor will hand over the kite and the students can practice completely safe without any hazards around. This procedure will be repeated until the end of your vacation or until you reach the VDWS Level 5 (staying upwind). By using this method you no longer have to fight against the wind walking back on the beach or in the water. Kos makes it possible! These so-called “windward taxis” with the boat are already included in the beginner and intermediate packages (after the course you will get one “windward taxi” per day, even on extension days). We can arrange flexible allocation during your travel time. For instance, if there is no wind one day, you will get two “windward taxis” the next day. You can also book additional taxis for 15 € at site. KITE GEAR The kiteschool on Kos works with newest equipment from CORE kiteboarding and Naish, as well as SU-2 boards. Also there are two motorboats, kayaks, Hobie catamarans and windsurf equipment for you available. In addition, a 7,5 m Rib boat with a 250 PS motor can be used to take you on incredible excursions.

further kitesurf information WIND INFO The wind on and around Kos is dominated by two different wind systems: The north wind known as Meltemi, which depends on the general weather situation and the daily produced thermal winds, caused by the nearby Turkish mainland. The Meltemi is a strong and constant north wind, which makes for perfect side-shore conditions on our main spot Mastichari the whole day during the summer months. Thus, here the beginners and intermediates are spared for the rough conditions that typically prevail at many other Greek spots. Next to the Meltemi, Kos is affected by the daily thermal west wind. The thermal wind is generated throughout the day and caused by the rapid heating of air masses over the nearby dry landmasses of Turkey. Depending on the strength of the Meltemi, it normally gets distracted in the afternoon and turns from north to northwest or west. So, on days without Meltemi you still have a good chance at westerly thermal winds in the afternoon, which produces perfect, constant winds from 15 to 20 knots for beginners and intermediates. LOCAL CIRCUMSTANCES Another factor influencing the wind are the two islands located just some kilometers north of Kos. Between the islands the wind is being funneled, which causes a jet effect being different strong on certain spots of the island. During the change from north to north west wind a short wind break might occur, also in Mastichari. Consequently, you often have two sessions a day, one in the morning with sideshore conditions and one in the afternoon playing in thermal winds.

Mastichari is a small, not too crowded greek fishing village with several accommodation for every taste and budget. Here you will find small, traditional private-run pensions or apartment houses, which represents a strong contrast to those huge hotel resorts in e.g. Kos town, Marmari and several other cities around the island. At the outskirts of the village we discovered and can now offer a beautiful family hotel.

This brand new built and trendy furnished apartment with two bedrooms and a spacious living room lays just 200m away from the kitesurfing center. It comes with two balconies with sea view and a fully equipped luxury kitchen. In the living room you’ll find a flat screen TV, however, we think the sea view is nicer. The apartment has got two bedrooms with a wide double bed. If only two people books, we will lock the other bedroom (therefore a cheaper price). In the two bedrooms as well as the living room you’ll find a air condition (at an additional cost at site of 5€ per day and item).

hotel seabreeze
We found this little jewel of a hotel, which has been lovingly run by the owner and his family since years, directly at the marina in Mastichari. Costas, a Greek private hotelier and really a textbook example, welcomes his guests since 30 years in this sweet hotel. With basic furniture the rooms are nice and always clean. Breakfast is included.
kiteworldwide studios
As there are innumerable small private-run apartments in Mastichari, we’ve conducted contracts with quite a few and now simply offer them as the KiteWorldWide apartments and studios. All are situated less than a 10 minutes’ walk away from the kitesurfing school. The accommodations are similarly equipped with a balcony or terrace, an own basic bathroom, a small kitchenette, fridge, sink, dishes and air condition (mostly at an additional cost at site of 5€ per day). The rooms are cleaned every day (except Sunday), towels and bed linen are changed twice a week. The studios have a living- /bedroom with space up to 3 persons. Apartments have a separate bedroom and a living room with a studio couch.

mastichari bay hotel
You will find this wonderful typical Greek Mastichari Bay family hotel just right outside the village with an own private bay and beach. To town it takes you a couple of minutes to walk, to the kiteschool ca. 15 minutes along the promenade and nice, wide sandy beach. Cozy white bungalows with colorful flower gardens around make for this special Mediterranean feeling. Of course there is a large family pool and a private beach. In the bungalows there are different constructed units. All of them with large, summerly equipped rooms and comfortable wide beds, a balcony or terrace (sea view on request) and an own, spacious bathroom. Logically, the TV and fridge is not missing. The air condition is free of charge from the 01.07. – 31.08. (3pm – 0m). The KiteWorldWide Apartments & Studios are all self-catering apartments. There are several really delicious restaurants and cozy taverns nearby. You should calculate additional 20 - 30 € per day for lunch and beverages.

KITESURFING
The kitecenter „Kitesurfing Kos / Waterproof“ is VDWS licensed. They have brandnew kite equipment in store for you (kites: Naish, CORE, Flysurfer / boards: SU-2).The kiteservice includes: storage, rescue service with three safety boats and starting- and landing service. What kite sizes do I have to bring?
A male kiter (level 6 or 7), who weighs approx. 80kg, needs:

The kitecenter is approx. five minutes away from the accommodations (KiteWorldWide apartments & studios are closest to the kite spot). The distance to the Mastichari Bay Hotel is about 15 minutes.
