PD2-1A The Artsy House Ayutthaya Arch Dsgn Project - Year 2/1 @Ho Rattanachai, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya

Type : Residential Area : 750 m2 Year : 2021

01

The Artsy House Ayutthaya was located on a riverside heritage context within the ancient city of Ayutthaya. It served as a hostel, workshop, and studio that best suits the tropical climate, surrounding context, and users’ needs. The project was designed under the concept of “connection”, in which the architect intended to (1) create a connection between people, context, and architectures (2) link indoor space, semi-outdoor space, and outdoor spaces (3) establish a visual connection through the expression of (1) units and tectonics of the steel structure (2) material that were curated to represent the mixture between modernity and antiquity of the context, such as brick, ventilation block, coated steel, concrete, and wood (3) the planning that facilitated a functional connections. All was done to showcase a sustainable, contemporary architectural design that could stand as both a public and residential space.

The process of the design development started with a Basic Geometry of the site, accompanied by the arrangement of Taxis that fitted the needed space without disturbing the structure of existing sites surrounding the building. Then the space and order were determined based on aesthetics and composition. Proportion was designed based on the rules of geometry usage, such as the use of square, 1.4 rectangle, and 1.6 rectangle, while also utilizing a plan to section and elevation according to the architectural principles of a proportion.

PD2-1B Spa & Yoga studio Arch Dsgn Project - Year 2/1 @Rop Wiang, Chiang Rai

Type : Hospitality Area : 1,200 m2 Year : 2021

05

The growing interest in “Spa”, emerges along with an increasing need to tend to one's own physical and mental well-being. This place combined a Spa and Yoga studio, serving as a refuge for users to escape a chaotic world into a realm filled with peace and calmness, under a design that fit with a tropical climate. The word “Spa” originates from the Latin phrase “Sanus per Aquam” or "Sanitas per aquas”, which could be directly translated into “health from water”, “rehabilitation through water”, or “taking care of the health through water”. With this, the architect formed a concept of “The Whirl within the World”, in which the whirl of water represented the whirl of relaxation. The concept was communicated through (1) the planning, as every space was filled with water that could be seen by its users at all times, even from the private zones (2) The firm, calming structure where its stillness spoke in harmony with the light and shadow that adorned all spaces (3) Material with high monochromatic contrast to create a balance in each space.

The process of the design development started from the design of crucial points, such as crafting the initial impression that users would encounter upon entering the spa, or arranging the primary architectural axis to ensure a captivating orientation facing to the Kok River. Then the space was composed by the deliberate arrangement of architectural elements such as columns and walls. This thoughtful orchestration occurred within the boundary of a square geometry, carefully delineating the zoning for the spa and yoga studio. Circle geometry was artfully introduced to accentuate key spaces, serving as a visual representation of both the perfect symmetry inherent in the square and encapsulating the profound concept of "The Whirl within the World."

PD3-1A Rental Apartment Arch Dsgn + Cons Project - Year 3/1 @Suan Luang, Bangkok

Type : Residential Area : 4,200 m2 Year : 2022

11

The Independent Apartment project was a six-floor + rooftop rental apartment with 31 rooms offered, including 6 studio type units, 15 one-bedroom type units, and 10 two-bedroom type units. The project was located in Soi Seri village Soi 6, Rama 9 road Soi 49. With the post-COVID-19 lifestyle in mind, the design put much emphasis on the indoor quality of life and common areas, to facilitate a working-from-home lifestyle. Notably, a key feature of the architectural design was the incorporation of a vertical garden within a double-volume common area. This unique addition served the dual purpose of fostering natural ventilation within a semi-outdoor environment, responding intelligently to the challenges posed by the tropical climate in the region. The deliberate choice of a simplistic architectural style further underscored the commitment to ensuring enduring value for investments in this thriving locality.

The process of the design development started with the consideration project's feasibility and zoning considerations. Subsequently, the focus shifted towards the intricate design of various residential unit types, ensuring their adaptability and adequacy to meet the post-COVID-19 user requirements. This involved a thoughtful ordering of the units, synchronizing with the strategic arrangement of double-volume common areas and vertical gardens on each floor. In the final stages, the entire structure was clad in materials emphasizing simplicity, ease of maintenance, and aesthetic appeal. This approach not only addressed COVID-19 challenges but also anticipated the changing needs of residents. 12

PD3-1B Office of BAM Company Limited Arch Dsgn Project - Year 3/1 @Bang Mae Nang, Nonthaburi

Type : Residential Area : 6,000 m2 Year : 2022

17

Office building architectural design competition project “BAM” focused on the effective development of the office and surrounding areas, to ensure the convenience that suited a modern working style, under the concept of “BAM Modern Minimal & Green Office Design (BAM MMG)”. The architectural design could be divided into three unit forms, which took the free space reserved for the upcoming community mall in front of the project into consideration. Since the unit form of this community mall would be in line with the project’s office, the axis of the office was adjusted to avoid a blind corner between two masses and open the view to the outside. A flat plate was used to decrease the overall height of the office, allowing users to be in closer proximity to nature. Transparent material was used to enclose the building, making it possible for the natural light to reach inside along with the skylight in the middle of the atrium. Inside, the signature color of BAM was used to accentuate parts of the office, adding modernity to create an outstanding company image.

PD3-2B Chiang Mai Bus Terminal 2 Arch Dsgn Project - Year 3/2 @Wat Ket, Chiang Mai

Type : Civic Area : 12,500 m2 Year : 2022

21

Chiang Mai Bus Terminal 2 (Arcade), Mueang Chiang Mai, has long been an active point of transportation up until the present date. As a result, its building was rendered to be in a bad state, with inadequate space to facilitate increasing numbers of passengers. As an amendment, the Chiang Mai Municipality Office requested for a replacement of the station building that could handle the upcoming development of the northern transportation network and logistics. As per design, the replacement building would be easily accessible from the surrounding areas. While also negating architectural problems of noise pollution from outdoor activities through the use of noise filter architecture, expressed via building orientation, planning, and indoor noise reduction techniques. The building would have a wide-span flat truss structure with a sawtooth roof, creating natural ventilation in most parts of indoor spaces, and also allowing for natural light to reach indoor areas. Wayfinding would also be taken into account through the utilization of color and material to mitigate the direction problems commonly found in any transportation stations.

PD4-1A Mid Rise Office Building Arch Dsgn + Cons Project - Year 4/1 @Phra Khanong Nuea, Bangkok

Type : Commercial Area : 33,000 m2 Year : 2023

27

Vadhana District Office Building was built to serve both the needs of working government officers and the citizens who came in to receive service, with much emphasis on its element of being a public space and investment value. The design was done under the concept of “accessible, connected, and transparent”, which answers an architectural issue regarding the image of governmental establishments, allowing citizens to see governmental working processes. The building’s podium was made to be a community space, and the tower served as an office. Open space was also available for various activities citizens originally held in the area. The building was also arranged to be at an angle that allowed for a clear sight of the Tatthong temple’s chapel. Lastly, the overall design of the building was intended to represent a government’s working style that was upright, honest, and modern.

PD4-1B Bangkok Music Hall Arch Dsgn Project - Year 4/1 @Lumphini, Bangkok

Type : Civic Area : 45,000 m2 Year : 2023

35

Bangkok Music Hall was used as a site for musical festivities within Lumphini Garden, which could host a concert for classical music and other genres, as well as any performances as deemed appropriate. It could also serve as a public space within the heart of the city. The Music Hall was designed under the concept of “Blending Architecture”, as it could blend into a context that has a high contrast between the park and the city. However, the building came with various conditions, such as its enormous volume, and its role of being the city’s icon. Therefore, to achieve a blendable architectural design, the architect chose to aim for a pure and simple overall image and enclosure, to create a balance for its massive volume and create a reflection of context on its facade, all contributing to its iconization. Gathering space––an in-between space within the Hall––was also added to blend in both people’s activities from the park and the city.

CU X TMU WORKSHOP Customizablity in Talat Noi Group Research & Design Proposal @Samphanthawong, Bangkok

Type : Research & Design Proposal Year : 2022

43

Talat Noi Customizability can be defined as the modification of architectural elements to match both compulsory and additional objectives of users, which can accumulate or change over time. According to research, surveys, and analysis, the customized features in Talat Noi can be classified into Various Pattern Languages. In terms of purposes, most of the customizability only serves individuals, mainly residential owners. Despite the invasions over time, the Talat Noi Community has survived and remains one of the strongest senses of community with apparent identities. Although bonding activities usually happen in the area, the concentration of historical shophouses, combined with Thai culture, has hindered the quality of public space, which can be considered a loss of opportunities, representing a potential loss in the overall enhancement of community engagement and shared experiences.
