Gizmoized Ubiquity is a response to the post-metropolitan urban condition of pixelated societies. The urban fabric is converted into a ubiquitous condition containing a display of redundant gadgets instead of existing as a physical entity. This transformation urges a redefinition of what is social in the situation where people are constantly alone together. The approach to this new urban context is not to eliminate the gadgets, but to re-introduce them as devices to create and coagulate social instances. To re-define “social�, the concept of being social no longer means merely the existence of one being within a crowd, since it is almost impossible to hide from the public. Therefore, there is a tension between being alone and being seen, and also the boundary of aloneness and loneliness. In the design, architecture transformed into gadgets that define space and manipulate the social extent of constructed spaces.

The design investigates the hierarchy among monks, students, and travelers based on their relationships with the site, and the interaction among occupants through shared spaces for daily activities. The use of prefabricated unit modules that can be assembled into various housing units and installed rapidly onto the site maximizes construction efficiency and enables possible future extension. The monks, being the permanent occupants, reside in units that are partly embedded to the ground with an underground passageway to the church that ensure privacy. The traveller units are located close to the freeway that increases efficiency of flow. The student units bridge and encourage interaction between all the occupants. The structure of the project is based on a garden-water theme that enhances sustainability. Roof gardens and water troughs provide agricultural and recreational spaces, while allow the collection and storage of rainwater for irrigation and plumbing purposes.

The proposal is an attempt to bring circulation and interaction at the neglected city edge. The variety of materiality encourages exploration and creates suprises. The undulating facade and the offsets of floor levels allow the penetration of natural light and recreational outdoor green spaces. Located at Greenwich South in Manhattan, NY, this mixed-use project provides gallery, art studio, library, commercial, and office spaces. The building is designed to emphasize the division between public and private. Programs that are more public-based are mostly located near the busier Greenwich St, and are designed to have an open plan that allows more freedom in movement. Programs that are more private are located on the west side, where spaces are more defined and have a rigid and regular plan. The difference in the circulation pattern, the scale and the openness of the two sides of the building creates an internal urbanism within the building that echoes with that of the site.

The main purpose of the kiosk design is to increase activity level and at the same time encourage East-West circulation at the Greenwich South area. The kiosk is multi-functional. During the day, the kiosk functions as a newsstand. People can enjoy the sun and the view of Edgar Plaza at the lounge area. The orientation of the project helps guide pedestrians along the East-West direction. At night, the newsstand is closed, and the kiosk, with an image projector installed within the roof, will be turned into a small auditorium that projects video shows onto the existing blank building faรงade. People can then enjoy movies, football games, or lectures at the sitting area facing the screen installed on the blank faรงade.

The objective of the project is to bring the River back to the center of life in London, while at the same time providing a new habitat and gathering area for the Chinese community, who was forced to leave the current Chinatown at SOHO recently. The design is intended to enable a great extent of mobility and flexibility of the ethnic community. The design concept of the pier terminal and floating units is inspired by the Chinese foldable paper lanterns, which is one of the most recognizable symbols of the culture.

The project is designed to perform as a hub that stores seed collection to ensure life continuity and distribution of seeds to the public. The design started out at the scale of individual seed storage capsules, then moved on to megacapsules and seed vaults, and finally reached the scale of a seedbank tower and an urban hub. While the seed bank contributes to the seeds, the architecture also provides a terminal for the local city life. Visitors receive recreation and education through the project, while at the same time are invited to participate in the seed collection process.

Underground drainage delivers water from facade to ground
An interlocking relationship is introduced to the design of the winery and further extended to the entire site, creating a visual connection between two physically separated islands (Middle Bass Island and South Bass Island). The interlocking design is included at different scales, from scale as big as between two islands, and as small as between the two ferry docks on the islands. The idea of organic patterning is transformed into a system of patterned screens that creates a layering of spaces, positive and negative spaces that relates the project to the layering of the vines. The interior spaces, bounded by perforated patterned walls and screens, allow visitors to experience the vine layering with a different, new material. The elementary school is intended to perform as a smooth transition between the busy downtown and the quiet residential neighborhood, while at the same time standing out through the unique streamlined form that symbolizes safety and harmony. Located at Depot Town in Ypsilanti, Michigan, the school offers parking, classrooms, and institutional spaces for teachers, kindergarten and elementary school students, and also for the neighborhoods as a community center during holidays. The roof of the gymnasium doubles as an elevated playground and assembly area for the school.

The Cauquenes Building will be the largest building on the Salmon Bay Landing and Salmon Bay Marine center site. With over 44,000 sf of class “A� office space the Cauquenes Building has a feeling of being lifted up above the remaining site providing views of the Ship Canal waterway and future big boat marina. A cafe on the open terrace is proposed to serve the new neighboring office buildings. The short-term spring externship experience includes assisting leading architects with digital models resulting in design developments of several residential and commercial projects, including the Cauquenes Building, and participating in meetings with clients and contractors on multiple projects of varying sizes.
