Social Node is an proposed remedy to Red Hook, Broolyn’s long history of harsh street facades. By opening the street front with retail, providing an inner court for mixed social interaction, and including a shared out door space on each tower floor, the design creates a variety of social interaction within community spaces, which is missing from Red Hook. As part of the Timber in the City Competition is also utilizes timber construction to provide sustainable urban for the future.

Race Axis Relationship
The design begins with the proposition of a new rowing race lane, ending in the cove of the current boathouse facilities. The building and site develop from the opposing grids aligned with the race axis and shore line of the facility. As you approach the site, either as a crew member or fan, the views are controlled to screen the lake until crossing through the building. Once through, the spaces shift direction to reveal a grad view along the race axis.

Southmoreland Park Gateway is a proposed bathroom and concessions facility for the park and it’s Summer Shakespeare in the Park Festival. The design needed to circulate pedestrian traffic down 13’ from steet level, while also providing pedestrian gathering spaces for the crowds. The form derives from the positive and negative space of repeated traffic wearing through the hill as tires wear ruts in dirt roads. The space inbetween forms the three buildings needed.

The House of Machines is born as a concept for Manhattan, KS to increase housing density while maintaining existing neighborhood patterns. The solution provides a unique landlord-tennant relationship with a minimal back house and a shared yard space. To further re-design housing, spaces and service items are grouped to provide larger open spaces, maximizing use of the minimal building footprint.
