Born and raised in Seoul, South Korea. This portfolio portrays who am I as a foreigner in the United States and depicts how I studied and took considerations to combine the western design and the oriental impressions together. Using the likes of oriental ink texture, my portfolio, orientals, includes elements such as brush touch, stone, line, and black and white. My portfolio expresses moderation in monotony, and represents a element of line, stone, and brush touch using the color of black and white.

I have always been a meticulous child who enjoyed observing things closely. Especially, when I was in high school, I would fall into a trance and watched the world in awe; amazed by extraordinary skyscrappers and their interior designs seen through the transparent wall of glasses. While walking down the street, I took photos of the exterior and interior of the buildings that I liked. Later that night, I would open up the camera and sketch them until I was satisfied with my creation. Imagining that one day I would be the designers of these creations, I took steps to study Interior & Archiecture design. I took interior design classes When I was attending an university in Korea, I took my first introduction to Interior design class. I was very excited to take the class as I finally learned to express everything I have been imagined and sketched into more realistic deisgns. It was my little own world that had no restrictions.

After studying in Korea for two years, my dad suggested that I should study in the United States to meet diverse people and experience the bigger world. Ever since, my time in the United States have been extraordinary and I got to like interior & architectural design more. and This is why I came to the United States to study interior & architectural design more, and I really prefer the interior that I had so far approached in a wider variety of perspectives while studying.

COMPREHENSIVE DESIGN

The project for this course was to design a new West Coast headquarters for the National Geographic Society; a global nonprofit organization committed to exploring and protecting our planet. You can visit the organization’s website here: www.nationalgeographic.com. The project would be located in an existing building in the historic Presidio district of San Francisco, California.

LOCATION 35 Graham Street, San Francisco CA 94129 This is accessed primarily on Freeway 101 or via Presidio on Lincoln and Lombard Streets. 35 Graham Street has a Walk Score of 56 out of 100. This location is Somewhat Walkable so some errands can be accomplished on foot. It has a Transit Score 60 out of 100. This location is Good Transit so there are many nearby public transportation options. It has a Bike Score 89 out of 100. This location has

enough space and vehicles through the streets around the site. Landmarks close by are the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, and Palace of Fine Arts. The buildings feature open interiors with high exposed beam ceilings and ample natural light from windows and skylights. Presidio has many buildings. Most buildings around the site are commercial. There is a building adjacent to this site. It contains multiple businesses, such as graphic design and advertising agency. Other buildings are located at least 150 feet away.

Viewing at the map, it is recognizable that noise problems can be found from the North side. Because there is a space near there where can be parked trucks or big cars. There is also Freeway 101, so there is a high change that cars continue to pass day and night, causing acoustical issues. On average, the wind will blow from the southwest. Usually in January, the wind will blow very hard, and the wind at 30 mph SSW has been dispersed. This is likely to be a noise problem.

LIVING ROOM This is the living room in the Audi Home. The living room is located on the second floor of the building. The living room ceiling is designed to be extraodinary. It depends on the season and the weather, from the cold air to warm air, and reactive to sunlights coming in at different angles. The kitchen floor is used with wood material and the living room is used with carpet. The living room is open space, so Naomi can enjoy a great view, and the swimming pool is located right in front of her, Naomi can enjoy swimming easily. Because the center of the living room is a Courtyard, and there is a bar table right next to it, Naomi and her guests can sit at the bar table and drink wine while watching the Courtyard.

BEDROOM This is the Bedroom. The bedroom has a good view so Naomi can feel refreshed to start every morning. With very large window located in front of the bed, a positive mood is maximized. The bedroom has a wooden floor and carpeting is used just below the bed. Because there is a seating area in front of the bed, Naomi can enjoy morning coffee, or sit down and read books. The bed has lighting on its head and also on its side. And behind the lighting, there is a screen that tells and shows Naomi’s schedule.

61

This is the office. The white office wall is the place that shows her schedules. The floor of the office is wooden and the white walls are metal. The back wall behind the office desk is made of black wallpaper. Naomi can easily see her Audi Car in the parking lot at the office. The corridor space is next to the office and the office is divided into black frames and floor materials.

CAD DRAFTING Using AutoCad, I draw Cad drafting. When I attended an university in Korea, I used Cad. I have been using Cad a lot so far, and it must be done before modeling the interior space. In AutoCad, I can use many shortcuts and use them conveniently.

HAND SKETCH I usually use pencils for hand sketch. I can control the intensity with a pencil. I have learned how to sketch since I was in middle school and I know how to handle it. Hand sketch is the best medium when people have to express something quickly, especially when they are doing an idea sketch.

THANK YOU.

Thank you my Lord for giving me the strength and leading me onto the right path. Thanks to my family, and special thanks to Mom and Dad. Without you two, I would have never studied Interior Design or become the designer which I strive to be. Thank you for always supporting me, believing in me, and being by my side. You two are my only role models in my life to do the right things. Thanks to my Grandmother, always being by my side with my Mom and Dad. Thanks for supporting me and being patient whenever I was struggling with school projects. Many thanks to my best friends from high school and university. Thank you for the various experiences and inspiration. Lastly, thanks to my instructors and tutors for teaching me and leading me to the world of design. Thank you, and love you all from the bottom of my deepest heart.
