AUTONOMOS

STUDIO PROJECT 3.TH YEAR OF EDUCATION// 2017 AUTHORS: KLÁRA NETREFOVÁ, KAROLÍNA MUNKOVÁ FACULTY OF ARCHITECTURE BRNO UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY

collision An institutional face of faculty and student informality. Order and chaos. Dignity and punk. Coldness and warmth. Two counterparts trapped in one unit. Two wrestlers holding each other in a permanent wedge. The victory of one or the other would mean the end of the faculty. Sometimes they push themselves out of the way, occasionally connect, sometimes clash. The formality of institution collides with the informal energy of students, their desire to usurp the space, to inhabit it and occupy their territory. The school does not give up its seriousness and clean faces so student life hides under its skin - sweeping it behind the closed door. Studio trash vs. polished corridors. SEPARATION How would the spatial layout of the faculty allowing those two components of the system to function together and separately at the same time look like? Learning and teaching- two separate worlds that meet when needed. A world based on voluntariness, where teachers go “to visit” students and students go”to visit” their mentors? Our structure separates chaos from the order, and sets its own territories based on the “aesthetic code”. A solution based on different aesthetic codes of the environment ensures smooth passage between territories and at the same time indicates the permissible mode of behavior in the given place. Aesthetics become communication language, orientation system, and behavioral regulation.

SEPARATION/ collision Parts interact “face to face” through dialogue and cooperation. Faculty function as one unit, spatial principles are divided and declared on the basis of a new (visual) code. I know where I am, I know who i will meet, I know which path to take. Although they are not strictly separated, both territories are able to function as separate units if needed. The interconnection system allows not only to get through the faculty without the need to enter foreign territory, but it also allows the units to be functionally separated if necessary. This, for example, enables a smooth, non-stop operation of the student section, whereby any possible collision of students and representatives of the faculty is eliminated. Each group is assigned its own entrance. The third - neutral - entrance is for the public. Such “neutral” territory can be found in the very core of the faculty. It consists of an aula, a library, an art studio, a gallery, a courtyard, and a ballroom. Meeting and sharing ideas. Instead of clashing two worlds, mixing their rules and aesthetics. Not even here, not even there. Somewhere in between. on the edge of representativeness and anarchy. STUDIO MENTORS Ing. arch, JAN KRISTEK Ph.D. Ing. arch Jaroslav Sedlák

SAVE THE PIANO

STUDENT COMPETITION// WINNING PROJECT 2015 AUTHORS: KLÁRA NETREFOVÁ, Kristína Kapraľová

The SAFE THE PIANO project was created due to the interest of the group “Klavíry for Brno” (Brno Pianos) to protect the pianos in the public space against weather and vandalism and interruption of nightly rest. Klavíry pro Brno in cooperation with three Brno universities held student competition. Luckily we won the competition with our project and were able to build a prototype of the piano shelter by our hands. Since the moment our design was constructed, the shelter was repetitively reused in public space already for 5 years. Piano with the shelter played its role in many public festivals and have been transported to many places in the centre.

Shelter with the piano quickly became favoured spot on the street allowing people from different social groups bond through music. Project with the pianos in public space quickly spread around the Czech Republic and the world and a new piano shelter was constructed in Kolín. The shelter is a lockable, transportable cube that can be broken down into individual parts, standing on telescopic legs so that it can be easily adapted to the environment. The floor and ceiling slab is made of waterproof plywood, which is held by wooden columns. The doors are equipped with 45-degree laths with graphic print. The proposal introduces transparency and lightness, and we can see graphics from another angle.

INTERACTIVE PLAYGROUND

STUDIO PROJECT 3.TH YEAR OF EDUCATION// 2016 FACULTY OF ARCHITECTURE LJUBLJANA

The INTERACTIVE PLAYGROUND is an experimental project situated in very narrow gap (range 1600- 2100 mm) in between two houses of Ljubljana historical city center. The program consist s of a variety of interactive exhibits that can trick and play with your senses. You can discover visual projections, physics experiments, logic games, or even compose your own music. One of the requirements was creation of a self-standing structure because of the project situation in between two historical houses. The framework of the building is made from steel, which allows flexible and durable structure. The interior of the building is hanged down from the metal structure. The rest of the building is mainly made from glass including glass levels and beams. Thanks to its interior this playground offers open, fluid space. Horizontal levels are colored with vivid cold colors that optically open space and creates an interesting atmosphere. Every level is colored in different colors. The interactive playground is accessible from both sides, from Gallusovo Nabrežje and Stari Trg, Vertical structures move you through the whole building so with a little bit of exaggeration you will feel like in a vertical labyrinth. Access for disabled people provides the central elevator. STUDIO MENTOR: doc.dr.Tomaž Novljan,univ.dipl.inž.arh.

MOOD FOR WOOD CHWIALKA CITY POOL

The city swimming pool on the Chwiałkowskiego street (commonly referred to as Chwiałka) is one of the biggest complexes of its kind in the Wielkopolska province. The building was erected at the beginning of the 1960s, in the purist modernist style, and its form references the so called folk classicism, forcefully encouraged at the time. The main building houses a swimming pool with audience stands, children’s swimming pool, gyms, and a small hotel. The facility also has a complex of outdoor summer swimming pools which covers almost 45,000 square metres! For years the Chwiałka swimming pools have been a place of relaxation for many generations of Poznań’s residents. In here, many people have learnt to swim. Even though waterparks with colourful slides and numerous amenities pop up all around the city, Chwiałka still has its fans. For most residents of Poznań, the complex of swimming pools is one of the iconic spots in the city. During hot summer days, the swimming pools are visited by even 2.5 thousand people a day.

INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP POZNAN 2017

A group of students with the help of tutors, the Slovakian architects Ondrej Marko and Juraj Hariš from the 2021 architekti office, decided to draw attention of the visitors to the historic stands and bring back its former glory. In our design we used the effects of optical illusion, finishing part of the stands with new wooden seating in such a way as to form an enormous logo of Poznań – a star, when looked from a specific point near the pool. This place was marked with wooden paving elements, placed in between the existing elements of the surface. We also have to admit that the task was rather difficult since most of the measuring and cutting was done directly on location by trail-and-error. Nevertheless, the desired outcome was achieved and now in the hot days the stands is a favourite relaxation spot for the residents visiting the bathing site. AEIOU

MDNK In this semester we didn’t focus on “architecture” but on the architectural profession itself. Even though the object of interest of architects – the building – remains the same over the centuries – the profession is changing. We were interested in the transformation of the social role of the architect and the expectations and demands placed on them. In this semester, therefore, we did not focus on “the object of our interest”, but we joined our own ranks. We analysed, reconstructed, and resubmitted the Architect in nowadays society.

This project is a hybrid strategy based on the method of acquiring clients, and the cooperation of two existing offices with them – the psychological approach of the AEIOU studio, and marketing through social media by the Chybík+ Kryštof studio. Through social media, we acquired our first client and a commission to furnish a living room in a flat in a panel block. With a complete lack of references, we attracted a spectrum of potential clients through questions and visual materials distributedthroughout social media. It is an architectonic and educational strategy.

STUDIO mdkn

Through our posts on social media, we were able to acquire some desired data and information about the client, his opinions about architecture and preferable aesthetic. Thanks to it and a consultation with the client, we were able to design the interior and furniture prototype of their wishes. STUDIO MENTORS Ing. arch, JAN KRISTEK Ph.D. Ing. arch Jaroslav Sedlรกk

SPRUCE CHAIR pohledy Design and prototype

My designed SPRUICE chair and its prototype arose as a part of my final project for interior and exhibition subject in the first year of my education. The chair is made from spruce wood, connected just by wooden dowels, secured with glue. Thanks to it there is not a single screw on it. The inclination of the backrest was achieved by grinding the edges of the back of the planer and connecting it with the dowels. The backrest is also supported by the long legs of the chair, which increases its strength. The chair is very comfortable has a robust look and thanks to many reinforcements also a high capacity. I built the chair completely by myself and thanks to it developed basic skills necessary for maintaining wood and wooden constructions. Mentor: Ing. arch, JIŘÍ MAREK

NOT HAPAND CONSTRUCT

On one side stands the archive at the other Architektur Zentrum. These two institutions contrast with one another while cooperating. Archiving documents is a very demanding process that requires extreme concentration. Archival records can be very fragile, valuable, as well as carriers of poisonous fungi that can infect the surrounding area in an instant. They need a constant climate, darkness and a closed space inaccessible to the public. This archive makes an impenetrable controlled zone accessible to a few of the chosen ones. In the immediate vicinity of this wall, there is an Architektur Zentrum, which is functionally the exact opposite, fluid open lightened spaces, with the possibility of free movement of the public. If the archives had ears, they might have heard the wall behind. The archive and the architectural centre are two strictly separate operations, which together have little in common, but this does not apply at the ideological level.

The link between the archive and the architect’s centre works on the mutual transfer of data. Data from the archive go to the architect’s office, the library, the world, and vice versa. They form and expand the context of our knowledge. They create new structures, new contexts, and new archiving materials. ARCHIEVE+ MANUFACTORE FOR KNOWLEDGE

The former student dormitory house is located in the centre of Brno on the Údolní street, on plot No. 19, surrounded by the historic buildings of the late 19th century detached houses. Recently the building served as one of the buildings of BUT Faculty of Fine Arts. FaVu has recently moved and now the building is empty. The characteristic feature is the southern steep slope of the hill on which Špilberk Castle is located. The intention was to allow the exit from the building towards the park under Špilberk. The archive is therefore in a very attractive location with very good accessibility and, together with the architectural centre, this institution could become a major agent in its surroundings.

The construction of the original building is preserved to a greater extent. The design retains its load-bearing walls, breaks the partitions and dramatically rationalizes it by comparing the ceilings in the second building. I choose an additive approach. On existing supporting brick masonry I set reinforced concrete structures

The main entrance to the building is from the ĂšdolnĂ street, the entrances follow the hall and the hall can be accessed by a commercial bookstore, which is open both to the street and to the yard. The hall continuously links to the gallery with backgrounds. The staircase is accessible from the hall, which leads to the main part of the architectural centre with a library, a study room and a lecture hall. The second floor is dominated by a cafĂŠ with access to the park below Spilberk via an outdoor terrace. Operations are vertically hierarchized on the ground floor and the second floor is fully accessible to the public. On the third floor, there is a coworking room with a corresponding background. The researcher could continue to the fourth floor in the private archive, where staff offices and research rooms are located, with a raised floor and views of the surrounding area.

Part of the deposit is accessible only to employees from the second court. On the ground floor, there are rooms for primary cleaning and archival treatment. The entire depository is accessible from one staircase, each floor is located on both sides of the depository. Only through the fourth floor are the entrance through the depository into the digitization area and the archive preparation for the researchers. The archivist has the opportunity to go through the corridor to the archive office space. The entire building has an adequate social background, it is barrier-free meets fire safety requirements (fire lift, escape staircase).
