Always ensuring a certain area of terass for the apartements. Developed in the ambition to always ensure a green area even in this urban context. Depending on witch apartment that is placed on another new green areas will accure. The placement also creates a changement in the buildings volume.

STUDIO MANGADO University The university of Ljubljana
Workshop Site Project Type Professor
Studio Mangado Ljubljana, Slovenia University Francisco Mangado
URBAN CONTEXT The project is located in the city center of Ljubljana, in an area where the transition between the cultural facilities and the university buildings starts. The roman wall, parallel to the intervention area, defined the limits of the ancient Roman city and strongly marks the character of the site. However it is not the only preexisting element which constrains the project: a Plecknic building which hosts nowadays a high school and university labs should also be taken into account. QUESTION OF SCALE In the site scale we took decisions concerning the existent constraints. The first one was to keep a minimal distance with the roman wall, to have the

place to contemplate it and to upgrade it in the urban landscape. The second decision was to ensure and reinforce the north-south connection, linking with the historical city but also with the other space of reference, the Cankarjev dom. Finally we took a decision concerning the Plecknic building: we decided to conserve the corner and the two faรงades which defines the exterior limits of the site and have a great presence in the configuration of the two avenues that run parallel the building. Moreover, we found a potential in the zocle : we decided to work with its thickness to create new housing typologies in order to generate a new atmosphere for the public space and to promote life and exchange in the square.

Workshop Site Project Type Professor
Studio Huang Beijing, China Cityplanning Jeffrey Huang
CONTEXT A studio in co-operation with Harvard University and the University of Beijing. To find new ideas of how to handle the massive constructions of cities in China. Empty cities, huge housing complexes, with social difficulties. A sprawling effect given a huge lost of China’s farming areas. Farming areas that usually supplies a huge amount of the population. How to act in the plannifictaion in order to avoid this developement? How to combine urban housing with agriculture. We were given a cite of 100 km2 outside Beijing for new construction.

Atelier Mangado Atelier Huang
CONCEPT The mainconcept for this project was to have as much agriculture area created as housing area. To decide the building zones and the density of the construction, the existing properties was analyzed. Allready functional orchards or farming fields, was unwanted. Higher density was desired closer to allready existing infrastructure and living. We developed an example of a building princip, allowing the poeple to own an own plot, were always 30% had to be some type of plantations. To still be able to come up inte the procentage of farmingland as housing, we letted the nearby farming land connect with eachother trough the housing areas.

WORKING SPACES Psychiatric clinic Gรถteborg_Sweden
Workshop Project Type Professor
Working spaces Rebuilding/Renovating Matts Heijl
CONTEXT A project created with the assignment of renovating and better adapt the space given a psycitric clinic. The clinic was divided in to two different clinics with the same staff passing the both. The first for working as health center for daily visits. The other as a closed clinic for the patients in need of 24h service.
CONCEPT Use the daylight as prior. Lead the natural light trough the building and as guidence and healing source. So on the project is formed from modelstudies surviving the daylights movemets. Trough the given lightsources, existing windows and the atrium yard, as the heart in the buidling.
The hosting locals was an old insurance company and not addapted with either lights or connections needed for the clinic. Non of the inner walls was however part of the carrying structure, giving the building a flexibility.
The core and the heart of the building the innergarden is realesed from closed rooms, letting maxium daylight in to the building. The patients rooms are orintaited to east and the morning sun, the daily service that close at 16 in west. The reception and its wating area is placed within daylight.

Digital design and production Pavilion Paul Ehret & Philipp Eversmann
DISSOLUTION PROJECT For this course I have been working with two projects. The first one the development of the Dissolution. A pavilion that could be constructed by hand with the help of the machines and the software at EPFL. The material was focused on glas. But as glass is a fragile material a big focus was how to be able to join it together and take advantage of its strengths. The Dissolution project got its name from the inspiration of glass. I took on hold of the properties of glass as a material in therms of vision. Glass has this beatiful feature of being duplex. Seen as all seetruable, light and fragile but at the same time, hard, reflecting and cold. My idea was to develope a pavillion that changed appereance depending on the point of view.

ALUMINIUM PAVILLION The second project was to further develop and construct a pavillon, designed the previous semester by Danny te Kloese. The pavillon is composed of 140 aluminium pieces. These aluminium pieces gain their strength due to the use of the curved-folding and are then assembled together in order to form the pavillon. I participated in the execution phase of the project in order to translate the idea into reality in collaboration with Danny te Kloese. I worked on the final shape, in the design of the joints, execution files and the final construction of the pavillon.

SHELTER Wind and rain shelter Gothenburg_Sweden
Workshop Project Type Professor
Unisolated rooms Shelter Wiktor Kowalski
CONTEXT An abandonned quarry at the beautiful west coast of Sweden, we got the task to create a shelter. Providing visitors a spot to capture this special spot in protections from wind and rain. CONCEPT The exposed site and raw hard edged stones, inspired me to do a shelter standing out speaking about a smoothnes and warmth. A place for shelter. The wooden three-leveled S is providing a movement from the ground water level up to a cliff. Giving a protected view-post, a closed interior space for night or heavy storm, and a covered spot just by the water great for the snack break.

A FEW WORDS I have allways had a special interest in drawing and painting. For me it is a way of keeping notes, communicating and visualising ideas, and just express emotions. An inspiration source that I always will carry with me. On the right a sketch from a croquis course I had the oppertunity to enjoy on the side of the studies during my third year. On next page an aqrylic painting made a night in dark.
