The design of the oncology prevention center replaces non-functional buildings that are part of the Oncology Hospital on Žlutý kopec in Brno. The concept strictly adhered to the disposition record, with several basic parameters: convenient parking, pleasant waiting rooms, a café not only for visitors/staff and offer a view towards the gardening colony and Špilberk, as the bedrooms in the current hospital are oriented more to the south ).

The shape of the design is divided into three masses. On the 3rd floor, the building is connected by a classic tunnel corridor which leads to the sleeping area. Bedrooms are meant for patients who are not bedridden and undergo treatment once a day. In the western part, there is also an ambulance, an dispaly center(MRI,roentgen, CT=computed tomography,..) and a multi-purpose gym, which should serve as an auditorium. The eastern part is used more for public use. In addition to apartments primarily serving staff includes rentable offices and surgeries. These parts are connected by one hall, which tries to provide visitors with pleasant waiting areas, instead of closed waiting rooms. The design envisages the second phase, when the gazebo is connected to the garden (western part of the design).

“I’m not afraid of death; I just don’t want to be there when it happens.”

- Woody Allen

What it means to live a content life is a question we pondered while designing the nursing home for the elderly. Have you ever thought about how would you like to die? Movie industry proposes ideal picture: Spacious illuminated room with family surrounding you and you contentedly passing away.

The area of interest is located in Baťa hospital in Zlin area. Considering the planned moving of Baťa hospital, the future of the area is unclear and because of that we did not consider the surroundings important. The main areas of importance were self-sufficiency of the nursing home building and preserving its outdoor spaces. Mass consists of two buildings that converge and thus create a half atrium between them. Next important element was the room and social spaces. We tried to give a man a opportunity to choose. Rooms are spaces where one can spend time alone. At the same time one can at any time walk out to the corridor, which does not only functions as a communication, but mainly as a common living space for meeting and spending of free time. Long glazed corridors get plenty of daylight, a view to greenery and overview of what is happening in the second house. Both houses are in contact not only visually, but also spatially as in each floor there is a connecting bridge between the houses.
