THE PROJECT CINDERELLAS OF OUR MODERN DAYS What’s the Project Cinderellas of Our Days is a Comenius bilateral partnership between Hungary and Italy started in 2011 and focused on two main aims: • providing an opportunity for deeper knowledge and appreciation of another European country's language and culture, • engaging pupils aged 12-14 in a strongly motivating and formative process aimed at producing a shared end-of-programme product. The result is a play (completely ideated, written and acted by students) which deals with the problems and the joys of growing up, written expressively and ironically by the children in their own words. A re-edition in modern times of the fairy tale Cinderella has been chosen as the main theme because it is wellknown all over the world and by way of it students can investigate their own problems and try to solve them with the help of their teachers and of their peers. At the core of the play there have been current topics such as relationships, autonomy and freedom from the adults, progressive awareness of the specific rights and duties of active citizenship, new/contrasting/traditional lifestyle choices, acquisition of a consumerist/ecologist attitude and/or other controversial issues. Its value By collaborating on the project activities and exchanging experiences, pupils have developed a variety of skills including social and civic competences, communication skills and digital literacy. They have also been able to develop an interest in the other's country language and culture, to learn the basics of the partners' language, to stay at the partners' school and be hosted by their peers’ families, exchanging in turns the hospitality. The experience has made teachers and pupils better European citizens, strengthening the confidence they have in other people and helping them develop a stronger feeling of solidarity and trust towards anyone who speaks a different language or has a different culture and different views about family, society, work and religion. Its aims Both partners believe that a bilateral partnership can give students and their families the opportunity to enhance even more the European dimension in

education, and that by taking part in such a project which must have a concrete and well defined end-product, they can reinforce the skills and knowledge they have just started to develop. Why Italy and Hungary “Hriszto Botev Általános Iskola” and “Istituto Comprensivo A. Gramsci” already worked together during the previous Comenius Project “Side by side in Education” (2008-2010) and they wanted to collaborate closely through the fruitful opportunities supplied by this new Comenius Project. Above all other two reasons encouraged teachers to collaborate together: the first one is that about 150 years ago the Veneto region, after the fall of the Serenissima Republic of Venice, became annexed to the Austro-Hungarian Empire for about 50 years (1814-1866), until Italy became united under the Kingdom of Savoy; the second one, the Veneto became a major battlefield during 1st World War, when Italy was on one side (with France and United Kingdom) and Germany and the Austro-Hungarians on the other. Although those facts seem to belong to a misty past, teachers believe that a closer collaboration between the two countries might help in developing a stronger feeling of friendship between Hungary and Italy (or rather the two geographical regions of Lake Balaton and the Veneto) which were on opposite fronts about a century ago and are now part of the same European Union. extract from the Comenius Project Presentation.

I am convinced that the story of Cinderella was a great choice for both the Italian and the Hungarian students for the Comenius project. The story is wellknown all over the world and has its moral for everyone in every century. Family life and the problems of youth have always been among the most important questions of different cultures. We face many difficult situations in our lives but our aim should always be to find solutions for the problems to make ourselves and people around us happy. Congratulations and many thanks to all the children, teachers and parents for accomplishing this international project. I wish everybody could have as many

Hamupipőke története kitűnő választás volt a Comenius program olasz és magyar résztvevői számára. Ez a jól ismert történet fontos tanulságokkal szolgál mindenkor és mindenkinek. A családi élet és az ifjúság problémái újra meg újra fontos kérdéseket vetnek fel. Életünk nehéz pillanataiban is arra kell törekednünk, hogy helytálljunk és magunkat és környezetünket is boldoggá tegyük. A project sikeres megvalósításáért köszönet illeti a gyerekeket, tanáraikat és a szülőket. Sono convinto che decidere di lavorare sulla fiaba di Cenerentola sia stata la scelta migliore per gli studenti italiani ed ungheresi impegnati in questo progetto Comenius. La storia è nota in tutto il mondo ed il messaggio che vuole trasmettere è adeguato in qualsiasi luogo ed in qualsiasi tempo. La vita familiare ed i problemi legati ai giovani sono sempre state alcune tra le più importanti questioni affrontate dalle diverse culture e società. Nella nostra vita affrontiamo molte situazioni difficili ma il nostro scopo dovrebbe essere sempre quello di trovare una soluzione ai problemi portando felicità a noi stessi ed alle persone che ci stanno attorno. Voglio congratularmi e ringraziare tutti i ragazzi, gli insegnanti ed i genitori per aver contribuito alla realizzazione di questo progetto internazionale. Spero che tutti possano vivere esperienze positive e momenti felici come abbiamo avuto occasione di viverli noi durante il lavoro svolto in comune per il nostro progetto Cinderella. A lot has already been said about Cinderella and her story, new and old, and about the European Project and the collaboration between countries and schools, and, therefore, I would like to say something about the positive impact of drama on education and the cultural development of children. Theatre is an aid to self-esteem, imagination, empathy, collaboration between students and teachers, concentration, memory, communicative abilities both verbal and non-

verbal (including speaking in foreign languages), trust in others and aesthetic appreciation. These are all processes and values which have a tremendously positive impact on students’ minds and improve the quality of their lives. This is the third time in three years that we have brought the whole school to a theatre, but this time we have the pleasure of sharing this fantastic experience with another school, which has taught us a lot during these two years of intense collaboration. The opportunity to be together in a theatre here with children, parents and teachers from two different countries doubles the pleasure and the benefits and doubles our emotions. A dream which we had three years ago, to bring together two schools so far apart geographically, and to make them produce a theatrical work together has been realized. Már sok szó esett Hamupipőke történetéről, a régiről és az újról is. Beszéltünk már a két ország, a két iskola együttműködéséről. Most a színjátszás nevelőmunkánkra és a gyerekek kulturális fejlődésére kifejtett pozitív hatásáról szeretnék szólni. A színház segíti az önbecsülés, a képzelőerő, az empatikus készségek fejlődését, a tanulók és a tanárok közötti együttműködést. Fejlődik a koncentrálóképesség, az emlékezőképesség, a szóbeli és írásbeli kommunikációs készségek (beleértve az idegen nyelven való kommunikációt). Növeli az egymás iránti bizalmat, fejlődik az esztétikai érzék. Ezek mind olyan értékek, amelyek óriási hatást gyakorolnak tanulóinkra és családjukra is. Életvitelükre szintén pozitív hatással vannak. Három év alatt harmadszorra hozzuk el tanulóinkat a színházba, de most örömmel osztjuk meg ezt az élményt egy másik iskolával. Az elmúlt két év során sokat tanultunk tőlük a szoros együttműködésről. Sokszorozza a hatást az a lehetőség, hogy a két ország tanulói, a szülők és tanárok együtt örülhetnek a közös színházi sikernek. Három éve álmodtunk meg azt, hogy a két iskola – mely földrajzilag távoli fekvésű - közel kerüljön egy színházi produkció keretében. Molto è già stato detto sulla storia di Cenerentola, antica e moderna, e sul progetto Comenius e la collaborazione tra paesi e scuole e, quindi, vorrei spendere una parola sui benefici che il teatro porta all'educazione. Il teatro fa crescere l'autostima, l'immaginazione, l'empatia, la collaborazione tra studenti e gli insegnanti, la concentrazione, l'autodisciplina, la memoria, le abilità comunicative sia non verbali che verbali (anche nelle lingue straniere), la

fiducia negli altri e l'amore per il bello. Tutti processi e valori che hanno un positivo impatto su un'intera generazione di studenti e sulla qualità della loro vita. Questa è la terza volta in tre anni che riusciamo a portare tutta la scuola a teatro, ma quest'anno abbiamo il piacere di condividere questa esperienza con una scuola amica, la scuola Hriszto Botev School di Veszprem, che ci ha insegnato così tanto in questo intenso scambio di collaborazione durato due anni. Questa opportunità di essere a teatro insieme, ragazze e ragazzi ungheresi ed italiani, le loro famiglie e gli insegnanti dei due paesi, raddoppia i benefici e l'impatto positivo sulle nostre emozioni. Un sogno pensato tre anni fa, quello di poter collaborare per una produzione teatrale comune tra due scuole europee, si è avverato! Cinderella: a European classic in Hungarian performance. All children know the story about a beautiful girl who is kind and hardworking and who eventually reaps her reward, happiness. We, schoolboys and schoolgirls, have talked a lot about Cinderella’s life, the feelings of different characters. We wrote the dialogues for the play and translated them into English together and our teachers helped us to dramatize the story. In the meantime we have also witnessed the proof. We have slipped into the different costumes of different characters and sorted our own lentils to get a reward… But what reward? We have learnt to appreciate good things in our lives and experienced how collective work can help us to reach our goals. In cooperation with our Italian friends, we have created a special world: a traditional but modern Cinderella. Italian and Hungarian children tell the lovely story of a girl who finally found happiness. Hamupipőke: egy klasszikus európai mese magyar köntösben. Minden magyar gyermek ismeri ezt a varázslatos történetet a lányról, aki szépségével, kedvességével, szorgalmával elnyeri jutalmát, a boldogságot. Mi, veszprémi iskolások sokat beszélgettünk Cinderella sorsáról, a szereplők érzéseiről. Magunk írtuk a párbeszédeket, ezeket angolra fordítottuk. Tanáraink segítségével született meg a mese színpadi változata. Eközben mi is teljesítettük az előttünk álló sok-sok próbát. Különféle karakterek jelmezeibe bújtunk. Kiválogattuk a magunk lencséjét, hogy ezzel elnyerjük… De mit is nyertünk? Megtanultuk tisztelni a jót, megtanultunk dolgozni a céljainkért – közösen. Olasz barátainkkal együtt hoztuk létre ezt e különleges világot, a hagyományos és modern Cinderellát. Olasz és magyar gyerekek együtt

mondjuk el a varázslatos történetet a lányról, aki szépségével kedvességével, szorgalmával elnyeri jutalmát, a boldogságot. Cenerentola: un classico europeo in versione ungherese. Tutti i bambini conoscono la favola della bella fanciulla, gentile e laboriosa che alla fine ottiene la sua ricompensa: la felicità. Noi, studenti e studentesse, abbiamo parlato molto della vita di Cenerentola, dei sentimenti dei vari personaggi. Abbiamo scritto i dialoghi per lo spettacolo, li abbiamo tradotti in inglese e, con l’aiuto dei nostri insegnanti, li abbiamo adattati alla rappresentazione teatrale. Allo stesso tempo ci siamo calati nei panni dei molti personaggi, abbiamo rivissuto le esperienze, i sentimenti e provato la sofferenza nel raggiungere un traguardo proprio come ha fatto Cenerentola......Ma quale traguardo? Abbiamo imparato ad apprezzare le cose belle della nostra vita e provato come il lavoro di gruppo possa aiutarci a raggiungere i nostri obiettivi. In collaborazione con i nostri amici italiani abbiamo creato un mondo speciale: una Cenerentola tradizionale ed una moderna. Our Project: Cinderella The students of “Hriszto Botev” Primary School have set up a really interesting project. We all consider our connection with the Italian primary school extremely important. The students of Campalto visited us in May 2012. They spent a few days in a nice holiday resort in Felsőörs and then they stayed with the Hungarian host families, too. Two years have been devoted to our project work: Cinderella – a costume drama. We dramatized the original tale for the stage. Our teachers helped us a lot with learning the roles and acting out the scenes. The Italian students have worked on the same play, Cinderella but in a modern approach. We are really happy to watch the mutual performance soon. It must be wonderful! Now we are all looking forward to meeting the students and having a great time together in Campalto. Cinderella – ahogy mi látjuk A Hriszto Botev Általános Iskola diákjai nagyon érdekes projekt résztvevői lehettünk. Mindnyájan fontosnak tartjuk a campaltói iskolával való kapcsolatot, amelynek diákjai 2012 májusában látogattak el hozzánk. A közös projekt két éve során Hamupipőke történetét dolgoztuk fel, kosztümös változatban vittük

színpadra a mesét, melyhez nagy segítséget kaptunk a tanárainktól. Az olasz gyerekek is ezen a darabon dolgoztak, ők a történet modern kori feldolgozására vállalkoztak. Most mindnyájan nagy izgalommal várjuk az olaszországi találkozást, a közös programokat és az előadást. Reméljük, szép élményekben lesz részünk! Il nostro Progetto: Cinderella Gli studenti della Scuola ”Hriszto Botev”, in collaborazione con gli studenti della Scuola ”A. Gramsci” di Campalto, hanno costruito un progetto molto interessante che ha reso possibile un forte legame tra i due Paesi. Lo scorso Maggio 2012 gli studenti italiani hanno trascorso dieci giorni in Ungheria soggiornando prima in un delizioso ostello a Felsőörs, e poi presso le famiglie ospitanti. Abbiamo lavorato insieme al progetto Cinderella, una rappresentazione teatrale in lingua inglese, per due anni. Aiutati dai nostri insegnanti, abbiamo adattato per il teatro la favola originale, mentre gli studenti italiani ne hanno dato una lettura in chiave moderna. A breve vedremo realizzato sul palco di un teatro il nostro lavoro. Sarà meraviglioso! Kate: the story of a girl who lost her earring…and lots of rights. In the story of Kate, the young Cinderella of our days, we have seen that a lot of children’s rights weren’t respected. The right to receive protection from exploitation In the story, Emma, Kate’s stepmother, makes her to work at the age of fourteen!!! But everywhere in the world, each child has to go to school and to be protected against all forms of exploitation. According to every country’s Convention of Human Rights, a child can’t work or can’t be obliged to do heavy and dangerous jobs before an appropriate minimum age that in Italy is 16. In our opinion this is one of the most important right because it helps children to be respected and protected from every kind of violence. The right to express your own opinion In our modern version of Cinderella, Kate has to face the painful experience of leaving her own country, the Philippines, and moving somewhere else. This means a new country, Italy, a new house, other people she doesn’t know: a

stepmother and two stepsisters. Nobody asks her how she feels, what are her fears or her wishes or what she would like to in order to improve her condition. So she is very sad and she cries because nobody listens to her. We think that every child has the right to express his/her opinion, even in difficult situations and to take important decisions. The right of speech and the right to be listened to are fundamental, also to protect oneself and not to be accused without reason. Adults have the duty to listen to children. The right to receive education Kate is working at a hotel in Venice, she had gone to school when she lived in the Philippines, but she realizes that she needs more education, she needs to improve her knowledge and abilities, so she decides to go back to school in the evening to learn Italian. This is a good and wise decision because education is very important not only to improve our personal growth but also to become useful members of society. Education helps children grow, as water helps plants to grow; education helps children to orientate in the world. The right to have a family Kate loses her family when she’s still young. It isn’t her fault but this is a difficult situation for her because she misses all the love and the affection that a family can give. Every child needs love and understanding for the full and harmonious development of his/her personality; for this reason everyone has to have a family, or adults to refer to and who would take care of him/her as a family. The right to your own identity

In our story Cinderella grows up and finds her love. She wants her boyfriend to get to know her own language, the traditions and the landscapes of the motherland. Every human being must be able to express his/her own identity. Every child must have a name and be able to preserve it. No one can change that name which will identify him/her for the whole life. We think it is unjust to be called with a number, as it happened in concentration camps. The right to cultural and personal identity is vital. Kate: történet egy lányról, aki elvesztette a fülbevalóját, és nem élhetett a jogaival Kate napjaink fiatal Hamupipőkéje. Történetében láthatjuk, hogyan sérülhetnek a gyermekek jogai. A kizsákmányolás elleni jog . Emma, Kate mostohaanyja arra kényszeríti a lányt, hogy 14 éves korában dolgozzon. A gyerekeknek a világ minden országában iskolába kell járniuk. A

nemzetközileg elfogadott Emberi Jogok Egyezménye szerint gyerekek nem dolgozhatnak, kiváltképp nem kényszeríthetők nehéz és veszélyes munkára bizonyos életkor alatt. Ez a korhatár Olaszországban a 16. életév. Véleményünk szerint ez az egyik legfontosabb, gyermekeket megillető jog az erőszaktól való védelem érdekében. A szabad véleménynyilvánítás joga A Hamupipőke modern változatában Kate-nek szembe kell néznie azzal a fájdalmas ténnyel, hogy el kell hagynia hazáját, a Fülöp- szigeteket, és máshová kell költöznie. Ez egy új országot, Olaszországot, új otthont, és számára ismeretlen embereket: egy mostohaanyát és két mostohatestvért jelent. Senki sem kérdezi meg tőle, mitől fél, mitől érezné jobban magát. Kate nagyon szomorú, sokat sír, mert nem hallgatják meg. Szerintünk minden gyereknek megvan a joga ahhoz, hogy elmondja a véleményét, és a felnőttek meghallgassák. A tanuláshoz való jog Kate Velencében egy hotelben dolgozik. A Fülöp- szigeteken iskolába kellett járnia. Rájön, hogy képeznie kell magát, ezért elhatározza, hogy esténként olaszul tanul. Okosan dönt, hiszen a tanulás nagyon fontos. Nem csak azért, hogy a személyisége fejlődjön, hanem azért is, hogy így a társadalom hasznos tagjává válhasson. A családhoz való jog Kate még fiatal korában elveszti családját. Emiatt nagyon nehéz a sorsa, hiszen nem kap szeretetet, gyengédséget. Minden gyereknek szüksége van szeretetre, megértésre ahhoz, hogy személyisége harmonikusan fejlődjön.

Kate: storia di una ragazza che ha smarrito un orecchino...e tanti diritti. Nella storia di Kate, una giovane Cenerentola dei nostri giorni, abbiamo visto che alcuni diritti garantiti dalla Convenzione dell’O.N.U. a tutti i bambini e ragazzi del Mondo, non sono stati rispettati, non sono stati garantiti, anche se la storia si svolge nel nostro tempo e nel nostro Paese. Diritto alla protezione contro lo sfruttamento Nella storia la matrigna di Kate la manda a lavorare a 14 anni...ma in ogni angolo del mondo ogni bambino, ogni ragazzo deve andare a scuola e deve essere protetto dallo sfruttamento da parte degli adulti. Infatti, finché non ha l’età giusta secondo la legge del Paese in cui vive (16 anni in Italia), non deve lavorare e comunque non può essere impiegato in lavori pesanti e dannosi per la sua salute. Secondo noi questo diritto è uno dei più importanti perché tutela

ragazzi e bambini che da soli non hanno la facoltà di proteggersi da qualsiasi sopruso. Diritto di esprimere la propria opinione Nella storia della nostra Cenerentola moderna, la protagonista si trova davanti ad una situazione dolorosa: deve lasciare la propria isola e andare a vivere in un altro Paese, in un’altra casa, abitare con altre persone che non conosce. Nessuno le chiede cosa ne pensa, cosa desidera, di cosa ha paura, nemmeno cosa potrebbe fare per migliorare la sua situazione. Così lei piange sconsolata perché nessuno la ascolta. Noi pensiamo che ogni bambino abbia il diritto di esprimere le proprie opinioni, anche nelle situazioni gravi e anche per operare le scelte per la propria vita. Egli ha il diritto di essere ascoltato dagli adulti. Il diritto di parola e il diritto all’ascolto sono molto importanti anche per non essere accusato di cose che magari non hai mai fatto. Diritto all’educazione Kate lavora, nelle Filippine era già andata a scuola, ma si rende conto che la sua preparazione non è completa, così va alla scuola serale per imparare la lingua del Paese in cui vive. Fa molto bene perché l’educazione è fondamentale nella crescita di una ragazza che è come una piccola pianta: per crescere correttamente ha bisogno di un paletto che la sostenga e non la faccia andare verso la cattiva via. Se un bambino ha una buona educazione sarà inoltre già preparato per la vita e per il mondo del lavoro. Diritto alla famiglia A Kate viene a mancare la famiglia quando è ancora giovane. E’ una situazione difficile, lei non ne ha colpa, e tuttavia può accadere. Ma la Convenzione dei diritti dell’infanzia ci dice che ogni bambino ha diritto ad avere protezione e amore per crescere e se la sua famiglia non è in grado di darglielo bisogna aiutarlo ad avere protezione e amore da altri adulti, come un’altra famiglia. Secondo noi questo diritto è molto importante. Diritto alla propria identità Nella nostra storia un po’ alla volta Kate diventa grande, trova l’amore e vuole far conoscere al suo partner la sua lingua, le tradizioni e i paesaggi della propria terra. Lei sa che ogni essere umano deve poter esprimere la propria identità. Ogni bambino inoltre deve poter avere un nome e conservarlo, nome che nessuno potrà cambiargli e che lo identificherà per la vita. Per noi è brutto ed ingiusto esser chiamati con un numero, come succedeva nei campi di concentramento. Questo diritto all’identità personale e culturale è molto importante. We, parents, cannot be grateful enough for teachers in both Hungary and Italy, who put so much work, effort, and energy into the Cinderella project, which has turned out to be a wonderful learning experience for our kids. Our children have learnt tremendous lot about cooperation, discipline, and the joy of working together. This experience is for a lifetime. And the fact that they have learnt and practiced English in real-life situations is only an extra benefit. Thank you all for making it happen. Szabó Andrea, parent Mi, szülők nem lehetünk elég hálásak a magyar- és olaszországi tanároknak, akiknek a hihetetlenül sok munkája és erőfeszítése eredményeképpen létrejött a Hamupipőke projekt. Ennél élvezetesebbé már nem is tehették volna a tanulási folyamatot. Gyerekeink rengeteget tanultak az együttműködésről, a fegyelmezett munkáról, és a közös alkotás öröméről. Biztosak vagyunk benne, hogy életre szóló élmény lesz. Az a tény pedig, hogy közben angolul is tanultak és a nyelvet valós helyzetekben használták, már csak hab a tortán. Köszönjük, hogy a közös Hamupipőke megtörténhetett. FRANCESCO ZORZINI (1980) Pianista, direttore di coro e compositore inizia i propri studi con il maestro Davide Liani per diplomarsi in pianoforte (con il maestro Giorgio Lovato) e in composizione, con il massimo dei voti, sotto la guida del maestro Riccardo Vaglini, presso il conservatorio “Benedetto Marcello” di Venezia. È particolarmente attivo come collaboratore nello studio del canto lirico, lavorando con i nomi più importanti della scena italiana ed internazionale: Raina Kabaivanska, Sherman Lowe, Stefan Schreiber (Staatsoper di Stoccarda) e il soprano Francesca Scaini, con cui sostiene anche un’intensa attività concertistica. Appassionato didatta vanta una decennale esperienza come docente di pianoforte, armonia e solfeggio in diverse scuole musicali friulane. Ha recentemente pubblicato per le Edizioni Ars Publica il volume didattico 10 nuovi solfeggi cantati. Tramite l'Associazione Culturale Musicale Kairòs (Camino al Tagliamento) organizza eventi di didattica musicale avanzata relativamente al canto lirico, allo studio del pianoforte ed alla direzione corale.

Sempre tramite l’associazione Kairòs si fa promotore, organizzatore e direttore artistico di alcune importanti manifestazioni culturali musicali, tra le quali il festival di musica contemporanea Camino Contro Corrente. In collaborazione con associazioni culturali attive nel territorio, dirige stabilmente dal 2000 la “Corale Caminese” di Camino al Tagliamento, nonché il coro “I Cantori del Friuli” di Udine e sostiene una intensa attività concertistica come direttore di coro e di orchestra esibendosi in Italia e all'estero. L’attività di compositore lo ha portato alla scrittura dell’inno “De nativitate Domini” su testo di San Paolino d’Aquileia, che è stato eseguito nelle maggiori chiese friulane e alla pubblicazione dei brani “Studio di propagazione” e “Intermezzo avanti il Credo” presso la casa editrice Ars Publica di Avenza (MC). Il suo brano “Serenata d’addio” (ed. Ars Publica) per orchestra d’archi è stato eseguito nell’ambito della Biennale Musica di Venezia 2010 dall’Orchestra del Teatro La Fenice. Il suo brano corale “Libera me” (edito anch'esso presso Ars Publica) è stato eseguito nel settembre del 2012 presso il prestigioso The Eleventh Hour Theatre a Fitzroy (Australia) in un concerto promosso dall' Astra chamber music sciety ed eseguito dal The Astra Choir diretto dal M° John McCaughey. Sempre per Ars Publica ha pubblicato il brano “Vorès Sintì” (2011) per coro, il brano “Ecce ancilla Domini” (2011) per soprano e quartetto d’archi - eseguito per la prima volta in occasione del Gran Concerto per l'Immacolata nella Basilica dei Santi Giovanni e Paolo a Venezia l'8 dicembre 2011 dal soprano Francesca Scaini. Per le Edizioni Carrara di Bergamo ha curato nel 2010 la pubblicazione del primo volume dell'Opera Omnia del compositore Davide Liani.
