W OOD B A MB OO C H A IR A SMALL CHAIR THAT BRINGS BACKS MEMORIES Called as Little Bamboo Chair, this chair is a legacy of Chinese craftsmanship. It used to be seen everywhere around China for hundreds of years before people moved into high buildings as it was cheap and easy to make. However, it gradually disappeared for no longer fitting into today people's ergonomic and interior needs.

BRIEF STORY Called as Little Bamboo Chair, this chair is a legacy of Chinese craftsmanship. It used to be seen everywhere around China for hundreds of years before people moved into high buildings as it was cheap and easy to make. However, it gradually disappeared for no longer fitting into today people's ergonomic and interior needs.
SYMBOL I want to redesign this symbolic chair, which may bring people back to childhood memories in their hometown.
FORM Very few people would like to bring back this Little Bamboo Chair back home of modern interior for the outdated form. Therefore, I intend to redesign a wooden chair with simpler shape that suit into today's living environments.
FUNCTION The Little Bamboo Chair doesn't have a strong structure, which made it easy to break and couldn't use for a long time. Neither is it comfortable for long time sitting. These defects should be considered and got rid of.
CONCEPT The top bar of the backrest is straight,which sometimes bolcks users' back and makes them uncomfortable.
I bended this top bar and now it is suitable for users' back.
I changed the top and back bar into curve,which creats a even more comfortable invisible backrest surface to sit in.
The trick of this chair is to set the side bar and the back bar in different plane, which creats a invisible backrest surface.
The leg frame is made from fresh cedar or fresh bamboo.Because the material is bended without dry out processing,the chair will be shaky.
I put side bars and legs into one piece, which makes the chair more stable and easy to make.

Most importantly, this Wooden Bamboo Chair is also suitable for today's living interior and has a good quality to keep for a long time.

BIG W B CH A IR REDESIGN OF A REDESIGN Many people love the Little Bamboo Chair and would like to put it in the living room or balcony at home. However, it's still too small in size and they would like to have the bigger size chairs in the same design language. Therefore, I designed a dinning chair based on last project. 2014.6-2015.2／L44cm×W48cm×H78cm／oak,beech,walnut I independently designed this product.
CONCEPT
At the beginning, I thought it should be an easy task to apply the structure and shape of the Wooden Bamboo Chair to a bigger size dinning chair. Therefore, I began to think of and test the new structure based on similar form language. I figured out some structural concepts and chose the best ones to develop. I also learnt a new software Grasshopper to calculate the angles between components exactly. The parametric process has helped me a lot. A upholstery seater was added to the dinning chair for consideration of sitting more comfortably.

Every component is closely connected to each other and matters a lot for the holistic structure and form. That's what I've learnt during the whole design process of the Big Web Chair after taking a long time to refining the details for the elegant shape and the comfortable structure.

HIGH B A C K BED A KNOCK-DOWN WOODEN BED I aimed to design a modern solid wood bed that could be knock-down, flat packed and easy to assemble. Inspired by the last two projects, Wooden Bamboo Chair and Big Web Chair, I have used similar form language while designing this bed. However, for the knock-down and easy-assembly structure, it really takes me a long time to try out the most suitable solution.

CONCEPT
It's a big challenge to design a knock-down bed but it's good to consider the knock-down structure at the very beginning. The form follows the structure. I built 3D models while drawing concept sketches, which helped to visualize the concepts in details.

B A OB A O C H A IR SERIES A CHIAR SERIE INSPIRED BY A TRADITIONAL SNACK Aimed to create a chair series made by hard leather, this is my latest project at work. During the process of structural and form concepts, I was inspired by a Chinese traditional snack, ZongZi. 2017.4-2017.12／L72cm×W65cm×H74cm／oak,walnut,fabric,lether I independently designed this product.

BRIEF
Hard leather is new material for me to try in furniture design. It's quite tough and can't wrap on the curved surface. Inspired by the way of wrapping the Chinese snack, ZongZi, I found that folding was a very efficient way to shape the curved form.
CONCEPT
It took me a long time to understand how to use hard leather. In order to create the single-curved surface, I used sheet metal design software to imitate the folding process. In this way, I could create perfect hard leather shell for this chair.

It's a project to design a monolithic chair with simple shape and leather/fabric upholstery. Inspired by the Chinese traditional Round Chair, this chair is designed to be stackable for easy transportation. 2016.4-2017.2／L60cm×W65cm×H90cm／foam,fabric,lether,iron I independently designed this product.

A MONOLITH CHAIR MEANS THAT THIS CHAIR SHOULD BE A HOLISTIC PART AND I WOULD LIKE TO CREATE VERY SIMPLE CURVES AND SURFACES FOR IT.
Round chair in Chinese Ming Dynasty inspired me a lot. It has very simple and clean profile but has invisible surface with very few 3D curves. I decided to keep one of the 3D curves in the Round Chair designed 300 years ago and create a modern chair.

Pre-production The main task of this project is more likely to be a 3D design task. First I located all the 3D curves that control the chair's dimensions with considerations of stackablity. Then I began to sculpt this chair little by little. Last I checked every surface to make sure it could be upholsteried.

BRIEF With traditional measure cup , you have to pour a little bit liquid in, then lean down or pick up the cup to check at measurement levelďźŒthen you have to adjust, then the whole precess starting over again.
I wanna design a measure cup that you can read from the top, read straight down into the cup.
