Lighting Control System

CLIENT The client is concerned with minimising costs, ongoing running costs and payback periods whilst having the flexibility to change building layouts to accommodate his needs or that of tenants; Rapid satisfies each of these objectives. Rapid can be reconfigured easily to meet the needs of a new tenant with an easy to use programming handset or through a PC, eliminating traditional expensive re-wiring costs. Other benefits include lower operating costs by reducing the amount of electricity the building consumes.

CONTRACTOR Rapid is designed to drastically reduce installation time. All products in the system are connected using industry standard plug and socket connections. A unique manual infrared facility enables the system to be configured prior to delivery, thus minimising final system commissioning.

DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION The EBR-LCM10-10 series of lighting control modules (LCMs) are used as part of the Rapid lighting control system to switch lighting. They have ten individually addressable normally open output relays for switching, and on the D (0-10v) and DSI/DALI models these can also provide dimming signals for dimmable luminares. A separate relay is used for emergency testing. Incorporated on the box is an eight channel interface for connection to external devices such as light switches, emergency test switches and time clocks. Four ports on the front enable the LCM to be connected to the main Rapid bus and to peripherals such as presence detectors and bus repeaters. The LCM offers many features including: • • • • • •

INSTALLATION AND WIRING Warning: This device works at mains potential. Be sure to take care when working with electricity. • Install the LCM in the position indicated on the CP Northern installation drawings. • The box should be fixed on a smooth, flat surface or using drop rod fixings. Optional track fixings can be used. • Ensure that there is easy access to the wiring compartment and all connectors once the box is in-situ.

Ensure that the programming window is accessible and visible. For hard-wired installations, wire the box using the terminals provided. Connect permanent Live, Earth and Neutral connections to the terminals in the wiring compartment. There is an extra set of terminals to loop through the wiring; these do not have to be used. Hard-wired bus: Connect to bus terminals in wiring compartment using a suitable twisted pair cable. Cat5 LSF bus: Plug bus cabling into either of the un-powered bus connectors. For structured cabling installations, connect the structured cabling harness into the appropriate terminals on the LCM. Plug in the luminaires ensuring that the connector latches to the box (pre-wired luminaire leads available, please contact our sales office). Connect peripheral Rapid devices (e.g. presence detectors, repeaters) using RJ45 connections and a suitable Cat5 LSF cable. Where specified on the installation drawings, connect switches to the interface terminals between the input and common. Switches must be isolated.

Note Where a hard wired or modular wiring bus network is proposed please use a Beldon UTP 8471 or 9740 cable.

LIGHTING CONTROL MODULES lighting control modules can control up to 10 luminaires from one control box. The lighting control module provides ten individually addressable channels controlling 10 independent outputs. 8 switch input interfaces and two RJ45 connections for presence detectors and other peripheral devices are provided on the front of the lighting control module. The lighting control module is designed for ease of installation and set up; all connections to the unit can be pre-wired; an integral emergency lighting test facility allows the supply to the luminaires to be interrupted using the lighting control system. A dimming option is available for both 1-10V analogue and DSI/DALI ballasts.

After about 15 minutes all channels will energise. • From the user menu of the programming handset, select override on Y, send this to each individual box. Note that if the power is reset, this action will need to be performed again. Commissioning is performed by our trained commissioning engineers. Please note that prior to commissioning, it is the responsibility of the installing contractor to ensure the following: • The units must be connected and installed as detailed on the installation drawings • Mains power must be available • Luminaires must be connected • Bus connection must be established and the network continuity checked The LCM can be set up using our infrared programming handset or computer front end. WARNING—ENSURE CIRCUITS ARE ON THE SAME PHASE • Where multiple emergency lighting circuits are used, a multi-pole contactor should be connected to the emergency lighting test terminals to provide isolated outputs. • Where specified on the installation drawings, connect switches to the interface connections between the input and common. Switches must be isolated.

This unit is compatible with standard DIN rail enclosures • Wire as in the diagram opposite. DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

INSTALLATION AND WIRING

The LMS-MIN-LCM series of lighting control modules (LCMs) are used as part of the Rapid Lighting Control System to switch lighting. They have a single addressable normally open output relay for switching, whilst the DIM model provides DSI and DALI dimming signals for dimmable luminaires. For emergency test applications which require centralised testing or ELV switch connections, the LMS-MIN-LCM-EM provides a switched permanent live output. Incorporated on the unit is a two channel interface for connection to external devices such as light switches, emergency test switches and time clocks. A port on the front enables the LCM to be connected to peripherals such as presence detectors and bus repeaters, and two terminals allow connection to the bus.

Be sure to take care when working with electricity. • Install the LCM in the position indicated on the CP Northern installation drawings. • Where the unit is installed in a luminaire, take into account the temperature parameters in the specification section. • Screw fixings can be found inside the wiring compartment. • Ensure that the programming window is accessible and visible. • Connect a permanent supply to the Live, Neutral and Earth terminals. • Connect luminaires to the output of the LMS-MIN-LCM and LMS-MIN-LCM-DIM units. • Connect emergency fittings to the output of the LMS-MIN-LCM-EM. Note that the test switch can be wired to any device on the bus, not specifically the EM unit. • For maintained emergency fittings, two LMS units must be used connecting to the permanent and switched lives. (see diagram)

The dimming version LMS-MIN-LCM-DIM provides support for DALI EMPRO emergency test and monitoring. When this method is being used for emergency testing, do not use the LMS-MIN-LCM-EM product—this is only for switched emergency test. The LCM offers many features including: • Power for up to 4 peripherals • Adjustable off delays and group delays • Adjustable start up lighting levels • Scene control • Bus and activity LEDs • Fully compatable with all Rapid control system components

EBR-CPIR DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION The EBR-CPIR presence detectors are designed to provide automatic control of lighting via the Rapid lighting control system. They detect movement using a PIR sensor and turn the load on. When an area is no longer occupied the load will switch off after sufficient daylight is present, and to enable maintained illuminance for dimming systems.

To flush mount: • Cut a 64mm hole in the ceiling • Insert the mounting clip into the hole and carefully push the two fixings on the arms downwards until they grip firmly to the ceiling • Push the unit fully into the mounting

EBR-MINPIR DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

COMMISSIONING

The EBR-MINPIR presence detector is designed to provide automatic control of lighting via the RAPID or LMS lighting control systems. It detects movement using a PIR sensor to turn the load on. When an area is no longer occupied the load will switch off after an adjustable time out period.

Commissioning will normally be performed by our trained commissioning engineers. Please note that prior to commissioning, it is the responsibility of the installing contractor to ensure the following: • The RAPID or LMS components must be connected and installed as described in the relevant datasheet • The detectors must be installed and plugged into the correct outlet on the LCM or switching unit as shown on the system installation drawings • Mains power must be available • Luminaires must be plugged in • Bus connection must be established and checked The detector can be set up using our infrared programming handset or computer front end. For programming details see the separate programming document.

INSTALLATION AND FIXING The product is designed to be mounted directly to a luminaire, either on the inside or outside; or flush into the ceiling. See mounting options overleaf. • The PIR lens must have a view outside the luminaire. • For optimum lux measurement, the lens must be shielded as much as possible from the light source. • If flush mounting in a panel >6mm thick, remove bottom of retention arms with side cutters. The detector should be sited so that the occupants of the room fall inside the detection pattern, at a recommended height of 2.8m on the ceiling. Note that the lower the sensor is installed the smaller the detection range will be. • Avoid direct sunlight entering the sensor. • Do not site within 1m of forced air heating or ventilation. • Do not fix to a vibrating surface. The sensor comes with a lead and RJ45 plug for direct connection to the lighting control system. A Cat5 lead and coupler can be used to extend the lead length if required.

Miniature ceiling mounted presence detector


Microwave Product Data EBR-MWS3 The EBR-MWS3 presence detectors are designed to provide automatic control of lighting via the RAPID lighting control system. They detect movement using a highly sensitive microwave detector. This works by emitting low power microwave signals and measuring the reflections as the signals bounce off moving objects. The EBR-MWS3 has a unique adjustable sensor head that allows the area of detection to be optimised for the application. When an area is occupied the Rapid system can be programmed to turn the lights on. When an area is no longer occupied the load will switch off after an adjustable time out period. An adjustable internal light sensor provides light level information to the RAPID system to allow lights to be kept off if sufficient daylight is present, and to enable maintained illuminance for dimming systems. An integral IR sensor in the unit allows the unit to be commissioned, and used in conjunction with a remote control handset (part no: UHS) to: • Act as a conventional dimmer • Override the unit on or off • Change the maintained illuminance lux setting

INSTALLATION AND WIRING Wire the products simply by connecting to the relevant port of the Rapid LCM using a Cat5 patch cord. An additional RJ45 connector is provided to daisy chain sensors together.

Corridors or aisles: the unit should be placed at the end of the corridor or aisle and the sensor head should be angled to look down the corridor or aisle. Open plan areas and offices: the unit can be mounted in a corner looking outwards in which case the sensor head should be angled . Or the unit can be mounted in the centre of the area with the sensor head flat. Note that the higher the sensor is installed the shorter the detection range will be. • Do not site within 1m of any lighting or ventilation equipment. • Do not fix to a vibrating surface. • Site as far away as possible from the surface of metal objects. To flush mount: • Cut a 86mm hole in the ceiling • Insert the mounting clip into the hole and carefully push the two fixings on the arms downwards until they grip firmly to the ceiling • Unscrew the back plate, connect (see below) and re-fix the back plate • Push the unit into the clip and setup as detailed To surface mount: • Unscrew the back plate and fix straight to the ceiling or to a BESA box • Connect and re-fix the back plate • Setup as instructed below

DETECTORS AND INTERFACES The scene plate can be used in conjunction with detectors, groups of detectors and clock interfaces to select scenes. For example a presence detector can be used to select scene 1 when it detects, and select scene 0 when the room is vacant.

ROOM DIVIDE INSTALLATION AND WIRING • • • • • • • •

Install the scene plate in a British standard flush box with a depth of at least 25mm Wire the plate using a Cat5 cable with the one end stripped and wired as per the diagram overleaf Connect the other end of the Cat5 cable via an RJ45 plug into port 3 or port 4 of the nearest LCM Screw the assembly to the wall and clip on the cover plate To select scenes 1-4, press the scene button. The LED in the button will illuninate. To select scenes 5-8, press and hold the scene button for more than 1 second-the LED will flash. The button assignments are: scene 5=button1, scene 6=button 2, scene 7=button 3, scene 8=button 4 When a new scene is selected, the desired light level can be selected in the time determined by the fade rate. Double clicking the button will override the fade rate and achieve this level immediately. Scene 0 is reserved as the “off” scene, but can be programmed to leave a background lighting effect.

The Rapid DALI Gateway Din Rail Module provides an interface between a Rapid lighting control system and a set of DALI ballasts wired together on a single DALI bus.

The module acts as a full function LCM with 10 individually programmable output channels; each channel can have up to 2 standard and 1 EMPRO ballast connected. Two interface inputs are provided for connection to external devices such as light switches, emergency test switches and time clocks. For digital emergency test and monitoring the unit supports EMPRO ballasts; for emergency test applications the unit provides a switched, permanent live output. Up to 7 EBR-DIN-DALIG modules can be connected together to give control of up to 64 individually addressable DALI ballasts. Dali Emergency Monitoring EBR-EMLTU The effective monitoring of emergency luminaries is achieved when the Tridonic EMPRO inverter is fitted into the emergency light fitting along with the ballast and battery pack. The monitoring is carried out using a 2 wire DALI control cable which is connected via the luminaire lead to the lighting control module and in turn monitored by the Rapid graphical interface. Emergency lamps and ballasts are tested every few minutes to ensure presence, communications and detection of lamp failure. DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION The EBD-SPIR-2CH series of presence detector switches are designed to provide automatic control of lighting, heating or ventilation loads. They detect movement using a PIR sensor and turn the load on. When an area is no longer occupied the load will switch off after an adjustable time out period. The 2CH detector provides two independently controlled output channels that can be used for a variety of applications: • Occupancy and lux control of two independent lighting circuits using a single detector-e.g. for essential and non-essential supplies. • Occupancy and lux control of one lighting circuit and just occupancy control of a second circuit-e.g. where a row of luminaries by a window is lux controlled whilst inner rows are switched on occupancy only. • Occupancy and lux control of a lighting circuit and just occupancy control of a ventilation circuit. Note: when controlling two circuits, the circuits must be on the same phase. An adjustable internal light sensor provides additional energy saving in lighting applications. When an area is occupied lighting is only switched on when the level of natural light is below a preset level. Depending on the part number, lux control is available on one or both channels. In addition a variant of the product provides a normally closed contact for fail safe operation. If the unit fails, the outputs will default to on. When the unit is first powered up the PIR sensor will always detect immediately regardless of whether the room is occupied. An IR sensor in the unit allows the lux settings to be changed and the sensor to be overridden using a remote control handset (part no: UHS).

WIRING AND FIXING Wire the EBD-SPIR-2CH products as in the diagram. This product is supplied complete with a 3m lead. To switch from more than one position simply wire two or more units in parallel. The detector should be sited so that the occupants of the room fall inside the detection pattern shown overleaf, at a recommended height of 2.8m on the ceiling. Note that the lower the sensor is installed the smaller the detection range will be, subject to the parameters shown on the diagram.

INSTALLATION 1. Make sure the load is connected and in working order. 2. Isolate the mains supply to the circuit at the main consumer unit. 3. Connect the controller via the lead as per the diagram. Note that the essential supply, where used, should be connected to circuit 1. 4. Set the LUX level to maximum and the time to minimum. 5. Switch the mains supply back on at the distribution board. 6. The load should come on immediately. 7. Vacate the room or remain very still and wait for the load to switch off (should take no more than 2 minutes). 8. Check that the load switches on when movement is detected. 9. To set the final LUX level wait until the level of natural daylight is just enough that lighting is required. Starting with the LUX control fully clockwise (at minimum), very slowly turn the control anti-clockwise until the lights come on. Note that when the LUX control is at maximum then the lights will always come on with occupancy. IR control: LUX setting can be done using the lux up and lux down buttons 10. Set the time required. 11. Push the unit fully into the mounting clip. 12. IR control: the override on button turns the unit on permanently; the override off button turns the unit off permanently; the cancel button cancels the overrides. When an override is selected an LED will flash inside the unit.

The load should come on immediately. 8. Vacate the room or remain very still and wait for the load to switch off (should take no more than 2 minutes). 9. Check that the load switches on when movement is detected. 10. To set the final LUX level wait until the level of natural daylight is just enough that lighting is required. Starting with the LUX control fully clockwise (at minimum), very slowly turn the control anti-clockwise until the lights come on. Presence Detector MWS3 Microwave DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION The MWS3 presence detectors are designed to provide automatic control of lighting, heating or ventilation loads. The MWS3 detects movement using a highly sensitive microwave detector. This works by emitting low power microwave signals and measuring the reflections as the signals bounce of moving objects. The MWS3 has a unique adjustable sensor head that allows the area of detection to be optimised for the application. When movement is detected the load is turned on. When an area is no longer occupied the load will switch of after an adjustable time out period. An internal light sensor provides additional energy savings in lighting applications. When an area is occupied lighting is only switched on when the level of natural light is below a preset level. An integral IR sensor in the unit allows the unit to be commissioned, and used in conjunction with a remote control handset (part no: UHS).

Open plan areas and offices: the unit can be mounted in a corner looking outwards in which case the sensor head should be angled . Or the unit can be mounted in the centre of the area with the sensor head flat. The MWS4 long range microwave presence detector is designed to provide automatic control of lighting, heating or ventilation loads over large areas - typically up to 60m- making it ideal for warehouses, sports halls and corridors. The MWS4 detects movement using a highly sensitive microwave detector. This works by emitting low power microwave signals and measuring the reflections as the signals bounce of moving objects. The MWS4 has a bracket that allows the area of detection to be optimised for the application. An internal light sensor provides additional energy saving in lighting applications. When an area is occupied lighting is only switched on when the level of natural light is below a preset level. An integral IR sensor in the unit allows the lux settings to be changed and the sensor to be overridden using a remote control handset (part no: UHS). Two models are available: MWS4 - allows an external LUX sensor to inhibit the output. When the lux input terminals are closed, the output will no longer turn on. MWS4-ABS - has an absence detection input. The unit will turn on only when the absence input is closed. The output will be kept on with occupancy and turn off automatically. If the input is pressed again during occupancy, the output will reset. Only momentary switches can be used.

WIRING AND FIXING Wire the products as in the diagram. To switch from more than one position simply wire two or more units in parallel to achieve two way and intermediate switching. 1. Make sure the load is connected and in working order. 2. Isolate the mains supply to the circuit at the main consumer unit. 3. Connect the controller via the terminal block. Live supply to the L terminal, Neutral to the N terminal. 4. The output contact is an isolated contact. If required loop the Live feed to one of the terminals and take the output from the other terminal. 5. MWS4 only-connect an external lux sensor to the LUX INPUT terminal if using. This must be an isolated contact. When the contact is made, the output will be inhibited. 6. MWS4-ABS only-connect a momentary switch to the ABSENCE INPUT terminal. DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION The MWS5 series of miniature microwave presence detector switches are designed to provide automatic control of lighting loads. The MWS5 detects movement using a highly sensitive microwave detector. This works by emitting low power microwave signals and measuring the reflections as the signals interact with moving objects. Microwave radiation penetrates plastic and glass allowing this sensor to be mounted inside a luminaire. Mounting Options The MWS5 has been designed for ceiling mounted or wall mounted applications, and is specifically suited for mounting inside luminaires. The product consists of the following parts: • Sensor head with integral 300mm sensor lead • Power supply unit • Flange mount bracket (supplied with sensor head) • Surface mount base plate (supplied with sensor head) The sensor head can be wall or ceiling mounted using the surface mount base plate. It can be fitted inside luminaires on the gear tray using the integral fixing lugs; on the rear side of a diffuser using the flange mount bracket; or through the front face of a fitting using the flange mount bracket. The power supply unit is a low profile ballast-sized enclosure suitable for gear tray mounting. Adjustment Adjustments can be made to timing, lux and sensitivity using two small pushbuttons on the face of the sensor head. When adjustment is required, the functions are displayed via different coloured LED’s behind the sensor head lens. An optional user handset can be used on IR versions to adjust the lux levels and provides a user override.

Modes of Operation There are three modes of operation: Presence Detection When movement is detected the load is turned on. When the area is no longer occupied the load will switch off after the adjustable time out period has lapsed. An integral, adjustable light sensor will prevent the load being turned on when there is sufficient ambient light. In this mode an optional latching override switch can be connected to the D+ and D– terminals to provide an override off. Absence Detection The load is manually switched on using a momentary switch which is connected to the D+ and D– terminals. When the area is no longer occupied the load will switch off after the adjustable time out period has lapsed. If the switch contact is closed whilst the load is on, it will turn off immediately. The presence and absence mode can be selected as part of the set-up procedure. Dimming Dimming versions of the MWS5 are available to provide maintained illuminance. An internal light sensor measures the light level and adjusts the output of the luminaries to maintain a constant, adjustable lux level. Note that this function only works with fluorescent fittings that have either 1-10V or DSI ballasts. When using the dimming sensor, care must be taken to ensure that the sensor head cannot directly see the lamps that it is controlling. Switching The MWS5 power supply unit contains a high power relay capable of directly switching most types of lighting load. For applications that require multiple luminaires to be switched using one sensor, the switched live output can power as many luminaires as required subject to the maximum current rating. It may be necessary to connect the MWS5 output to a terminal strip for distribution to other fittings.

Presence Detector MWS5 Microwave INSTALLATION AND SET UP Siting the sensor The sensor head should be sited so that the occupants of the room fall inside the detection pattern shown overleaf. Please note that the higher the sensor is installed the shorter the detection range will be. • Do not site within 1m of any ventilation equipment. • Do not fix to a vibrating surface. • Keep metal objects as far away as possible from the face of the sensor head, as they will detrimentally affect the detection pattern of the product. Connection • Connect the power supply via the terminal block on the power supply unit. Live supply to the L terminal, Neutral to the N terminal and the load to the LIVE OUT terminal. • Connect the sensor head to the power supply unit using the connector, ensuring it clicks in place. • Non-dimming applications: a switch can be connected to the D+ and D- terminals. For presence detection this is an override off switch and should be latching; for absence detection it should be momentary action. Note that any cables that are connected to manual switches must be mains rated to comply with IEE wiring regulations. • Dimming applications: connect the D+ (dimming up) and D- (dimming down) connections to the corresponding terminals on the dimming ballast. • On power up, the load should come on immediately. • Vacate the room or remain very still and wait for the load to switch off (on the factory preset, this should take approximately 15 minutes, but the timing out period can be adjusted down to 1 minute to speed up the set-up procedure). • Check that the load switches on when movement is detected. Adjustment Time, Lux and Sensitivity • Press and hold either button for at least 5 seconds then release: one of the LED’s positioned behind the lens will flash to show which function has been selected. • The LED will flash a number of times (between 1 and 7) to indicate the current setting (minimum = 1 flash, maximum = 7 flashes). • To change between Time (green), Lux (red) and Sensitivity (yellow) press and release the function button until the required LED shows.

• When the function has been selected press the adjustment button to increase the setting by 1 step. Pressing the button after reaching 7 flashes will return the setting to 1 flash. • Time settings are as follows: 1 flash = 1 minute; 2 flashes = 5 min.; 3 flashes = 10 min.; 4 flashes = 15 min.; 5 flashes = 20 min.; 6 flashes = 25 min.; 7 flashes = 30 min. • Lux settings: 1 flash turns on when very dark ; 7 flashes turns on regardless of ambient light. • Sensitivity: 1 flash minimum; 7 flashes maximum. • After finishing adjustment, the LED will show the new setting 5 times and then return to operational mode. Default settings • Pressing and hold both buttons together : after 3 seconds the green LED lights. Release immediately to restore the factory settings as follows: • Presence Detection mode • Time = 15 minutes • Lux = level 7 • Sensitivity = level 6 Mode • To check the mode press and hold both buttons together: after 3 seconds the green LED lights— leave the buttons pressed. After a further 3 seconds the following LEDs will light: Green/Yellow = Presence Detection mode Green/Red = Absence detection mode • To accept the current mode release the buttons immediately. • To change the mode keep the buttons pressed for another 5 seconds until the LEDs change, then release. IR Handset • The IR handset can be used to adjust the lux level setting—press the LUX UP or LUX DOWN buttons. • To override the sensor permanently off press the OFF button—the red LED will light. • To override the sensor permanently on press the ON button—the green LED will light. • To cancel an override press the CANCEL button.

Wall mounting Plan view The ceiling sensor will cover a floor area of approximately 8 metres diameter at an installed sensor height of 2.4 metres. Installing the sensor head behind a diffuser will reduce the detection range by approximately 10%. Measurements taken at maximum sensitivity.

FAULT FINDING LOAD DOES NOT COME ON Check to see if the live supply to the circuit is good. Strap across the L and LIVE OUT terminal to ensure that the load turns on. If the supply and wiring are good, check the LUX level setting. Increase the LUX level setting to allow the controller to turn on at higher ambient natural light level. LIGHTS DO NOT GO OFF Ensure that the area is left unoccupied for a greater time period than the time out period set. Make sure that the sensor is not adjacent to vibrating surfaces or objects (e.g. ventilation equipment). The unit may pick up movement through thin partitions or walls. Reduce the sensitivity by adjusting the sensitivity function down.
