2016-2017 Annual Report OF

APPRECIATION

Celebrating 40 Years and 4000 Alumni

DEAR FRIENDS AND COLLEAGUES, It is a pleasure to share with you the Annual Report for 2016-2017 and to thank generous supporters from the past year. For 40 years, the Klingenstein Center has been dedicated to developing and renewing leaders who make a difference. Today, there are 4,000 alumni serving in schools across the globe who share the common bond of a commitment to excellence, to growth, to ethical leadership and to making a positive impact in the world for the benefit of all children. Alumni are dedicated master teachers, thoughtful and compassionate administrators and founders of schools and educational organizations. The Klingenstein Center remains steadfastly dedicated to the mission of developing and strengthening the leadership of educators at every stage of their careers as we continue to adapt existing programs and develop new programs to meet emerging needs of the national and global community. Please take a moment to read the “Why I Give” testimonials from alumni sharing the reasons they choose to give. If you are an alumnus, please consider making a gift at a level that is comfortable for you to “pay it forward” so that future students can benefit from a Klingenstein experience similar to yours. If you are a friend of the Klingenstein Center, please help make it possible for promising educators to attend the program through the Scholars Fund. Along with seminal support from the Klingenstein Fund, gifts from alumni and friends are a tangible expression of the value you place on the work of the Klingenstein Center. We hope to see each of you this year - whether at the big 40th Anniversary Celebration at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City on April 21 or at one of the conferences or alumni events around the country. Thank you for your support of the Klingenstein Center programs over years past and for your future support in the years to come.

Aside from being eternally grateful that we met each other at KSI 2006, our entire careers have been shaped by that summer and subsequent work with the Klingenstein Center: Erin’s role as Dean of Academics and current pursuit of public partnerships and Varghese’s interest in curricular design and best practices in helping teachers and students feel a sense of belonging. Our frequent joke that ‘we owe our whole lives’ to the Klingenstein Center is no exaggeration! ~Varghese Alexander, KSI ‘06, LA ‘13 and Erin Connors, KSI ‘06 Asheville School, NC Being selected and participating in the Klingenstein Fellowship was one of the best professional development opportunities I have experienced in my career as a Head of School. I carry with me what I learned from the amazing professors at Teachers College at Columbia and the other Klingenstein Fellows. I contribute to the Klingenstein Center to ‘pay it forward’ and make it possible for others to have a similarly extraordinary experience! ~Dr. Dina Eletreby, HDS ‘17 New Horizon School, Irvine, CA
