Biography I was born on 20th of July 1996 in Warsaw. I’ve lived in Warsaw my entire life, but luckily enough I was able to travel a lot during those 21 years. Since I can remember the thing that brought smile on my face was drawing. At the beginning of the high school, I had to make a choice and since most of my family has medical education, I was encouraged to do the same. I graduated high school with grades in biology and chemistry and applied to Medical University of Warsaw. It didn’t last long. My whole notebooks were covered with drawings, and even though I passed all my exams, I didn’t feel fulfilled. That’s why I dropped my studies and applied to Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology in Warsaw. Luckily I got in and that was the best decision in my whole life. Now, my biggest aspiration is to become a character designer.

My other interests include: film music, skiing and kitesurfing. 1

A shoe 001 Work from workshops in Cieszyn. When: May 2017 Project type: interactive poster Instructors: Jan Bajtlik, Marcin Wichrowski, Karolina Chmielewska Co-designer: Aleksandra Solińska Size: 1000 x 1414 mm Used tools: Illustrator, Photoshop Year and semester of studies: 1st year, 2nd semester

In May 2017 our year organised a plein-air in Cieszyn. During the whole week, students had a task to create an interactive poster based on a given poem and also include something connected to Cieszyn. In our projects we used the Aurasma application. Our poem was about growing up, letting go of the parent’s guidance. The author used a shoe as a metaphor. The footprints were supposed to look like contour lines on maps, so it would be connected to Cieszyn (which is located in mountains.)

Our work is interactive, created also on aurasma application. It is avaiable on website: https://studio.aurasma.com/home Our name: cieszyn013

002 Free time work When: June 2016 Project type: illustration Personal project Size: 500 x 707 mm Used tools: Marker Instructors: Joanna Majsak It was one of my first big illustrations. We got a photography of an old man and had to draw him in more of a ‘comic’ way. It was before my studies at PJATK.

SWINNY

MORBIDETTO You’ve brought all that on yourself. You’ve willed your own weakness. This is your last anodyne, crowning all the privations, which were meant to drug you. What a monstrous some-down! And that other one, that sickening phoney magician with his ‘absolute knowledge’… What a contradiction! And if we were ever to admit the contradiction, how could we distinguish the true from false?

shrinking away

I know you: you’re clever because you want to be clever just like him. Points to Father Unguente

And Grandpapa could be clever if he wanted to; but he doesn’t; and he’s right. r You’re too cleve and too silly – all at the same time. Swinny resumes play with doll

VAHAZAR Enough of it all! Here I am! I’m just like a black star against the backdrop of a white-hot night. I’ll arrest everybody! Everybody present, do you hear! To jail! – Come, Morbidetto, you’ve saved me from a fatal act of weakness; I shan’t forget this. Now: to work, work, work! You understand, Dr. Ripmann?

VAHAZAR You may well be right. But how can I be sure? SWINNY Grandpapa, listen to me! I’ll lead you out of this maze. MORBIDETTO stroking her head

RIPMANN Yes, Your Indefatigability.

Little girl, you don’t understand a thing. Just run away and play with your doll.

004 ‘Gyubal Wahazar’ book project When: 2017-now Project type: book design Instructors: Ewa Satelecka Size: 148 x 210 mm Used tools: inDesign Year and semester of studies: 1st year, 2nd semester

Gyubal Wahazar project Magda Kłos

6

‘Gyubal Wahazar’ project was at first a typical task for school. The instructions were easy: design a book however you like. My idea was to illustrate situations in the book only with words. ‘Gyubal Wahazar’ by Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz is a drama, that’s why I wanted it to be in a small size, so it would be handful for the actors. 7

Magda Kłos

VAHAZAR It’s not what I want, anyway! I want a mother; or at least a sister!

Four Executioners, among them Morbidetto enter and stand, unnoticed, against the wall

SWINNY Oh! Do let him alone!

LUBRICA Well, that’s what I wanted to be for you, believe me. I didn’t want anything from you. I simply wanted you to visit me, sometimes, and have a cup of tea with me.

VAHAZAR irritated, to Swinny

Don’t you see it’s useless? She doesn’t understand. Very stiffly to Lubrica and Scabrosa

I shall now read your papers.

VAHAZAR

Takes them out of his pocket

Donna Scabrosa Macabrescu: 30% woman; 65% femaloon; 5% psychical oddments. Fine.

shivers

UGH! I’m exhausted! SWINNY Aunt Lubrica! Leave him alone! He’s so pitiful.

He goes on reading

Donna Lubrica Terramon: 43% woman; 55% femaloon; 2% oddments. – Perfect, Dr. Ripmann: would you take care of these ladies? Why are the chances of a real mechanical mother so remote these days?

SCABROSA irritated, to Swinny

You don’t understand a thing, you stupid child! I’ve begun to think you’re not quite normaL. Don’t interfere!

Our project evolved into something more. Our instructor chose couple of designs and together, out of our different designs, we created a whole book. Magda Kłos 8

In October 2016 we had our first exhibition in Płock and later in Cracow and Warsaw. We’re still planning next ones, this time in London.

Gender magazine

005 ‘Gender’ magazine project When: March 2017 Project type: magazine cover Instructors: Klaudiusz Ślusarczyk Co-designer: Zofia Włoczewska Used tools: Photoshop Year and semester of studies: 1st year, 2nd semester

For semiotic classes we had a task to create anything that would be connected to topics discussed on lectures. We chose a topic connected to gender. After a lot of discussion we decided to create a magazine, that would discuss gender subjects. It’s so controversial and ongoing subject that we agreeded it would be very interesting, if it could actually exist.

Locomotive

006 ‘Locomotive’ book When: October 2017 Project type: book design Instructors: Jan Bajtlik Size: 210x148 mm Used tools: inDesign, pen Year and semester of studies:2nd year, 1st semester Magda Kłos

‘Locomotive’ by Julian Tuwim is a very popular polish poem. Many kids in kindergarten are learning it by heart (me included.) It has a very specific rhythm, that’s why it was very important for our professor to play with typography so it would show the tempo.

Magda Kłos 12

The poem says about a train and describes it’s passengers: animals. In my design, I’ve created a whole new story. My version of ‘Locomotive’ was about a man, that struggled with obesity and that’s why he went for a group theraphy. The story describes his colleagues and then it shows what happens when our main character breaks and eats a piece of chocolate that dropped out of his pocket. Further story continues in his stomach and ends in the toilet.

Magda Kłos 13

Because the poem was made for kids, I wanted to make my drawings and layout of the book very simple. For me, the most important thing was the story. My goal was to create something compeletely differen from what was already known. Magda KĹ‚os 14

My pussy my business

008 ‘Independence’ workshops When: October 2017 Project type: social poster Instructors: Ann Bessemans and Johan Vandebosch Team members: Aleksandra Solińska, Zofia Włoczewska, Oliwia Piątkowska Size: 841 x 1189 mm Used tools: Photoshop, paper cuts Year and semester of studies: 2nd year, 1st semester

Our task was to create a poster connected to independence also using typical for Polish tradition paper cuts. We chose a little bit different approach to this subject. Most of our team has cats, that’s why we wanted to show that even though a single woman with a cat is often referred to as a pathetic, ugly loser, it’s not like that in reality. It’s her life and her choice and it’s none of anyone’s business.

In my photographs I don’t intend to take professional photos, I’m trying to show in a different way things that seem to be pretty normal. You don’t know when you’re going to see those moments, that’s why I use my iPhone.

The photo was taken in Spain in Valencia.

Ain’t no rest for the wicked 014 ‘Ain’t no rest for the wicked’ music video When: January 2018 Project type: video editing Instructors: Jan Duda Used tools: After Effect Year and semester of studies: 2nd year, 1st semester

Inspiration video: Cassius, Pharell Williams - Go Up ft. Cat Power

In this project I was inspired by a ‘Go Up’ video clip. I’ve tried to combine different videos, so that they would create together a whole different meaning. Videos were also illustrating situations that are described in the song.
